Aaah...Lars you took one for the team. Look at it from a positive side you helped Sasha and his father to have a day fishing with some friends! You know I am sitting here in Florida in shorts and T-shirt and find it interesting. Thank you!
"Why I Do Not Fish Here." LMAO when you said it's the colorful language. At least they were having a blast, good buddies you have there Lars, getting out and getting it done. Connecting with nature is something we need to revive for sure, ATB.
It's amazing like the landscape look exactly like my country ! Quebec Canada ! One hours north Montreal and it's the same tree, snow and fish... only difference we speak french!! Keep on Survival Russia !!🎄🎄🎅🎅
I like your point of view! In my opinion, it isn't mentioned often. I, fishing regularly on austrian lakes, understand you very well. Keep up the good work, Lars!
I very much appreciate this video Lars. While very different from your regular videos it's excellent to see other aspects of your life, culture, and beautiful country. Regards from Colorado USA
You're a good man, Lars. I agree with everything you said. I used to talk like those guys every day but grew out of it. I was always the life of the party but have become a loner in my later years (49 y/o next week). You'd be cool to hang out with though. Keep up the great work.
Excellent video! I find things about Russia fascinating, as many westerners do. Your last three videos I have thought very interesting. Boring to you perhaps, but not to others....Best wishes from the states.
Hi Lars. I know you don`t like making videos about fishing but I enjoyed the video any way. I was surprised that they walk on that thin ice, and drill holes into it too. Thanks for sharing
Lars I've NEVER heard any colorful language in the small villages here. HA HA HA HA Thank you for your incredibly high standards of production. I love the channel.
I miss ice fishing with my dad, but it was on a big lake, with either lots of small fish like perch, or big fish like pike and lake trout. The really small of any species we would put back. But part of ice fishing, for me, is just an excuse to get out in the open, on a big sunny frozen lake, and spend time with my dad, or hang with a couple friends. Not something I looked forward to all year, but more like something to do outside in the winter, and it gave us some great fish to eat. Winter fish, the meat is firmer and cleaner.
The Labrador natives developed a tool for running nets under ice. It works by crawling along under the ice so they only need two holes, and REALLY good aim and luck.
As an avid fisherman I can tell you .....ice fishing does not pull by chain, so to speak. Fly fishing for trout I always catch and release. Lake fishing where I live however, has an abundance of fish and it actually does the fisheries good to keep a limit from time to time to keep the numbers in balance. We have really large perch here with no limit and white perch with a limit of 50 per person. Always plenty of good fish to eat. That was nice of you to take Sasha and his dad though....I am sure they enjoyed it. Sometimes just the comradery is enough. One of my favorite fishing quote, ""Many go fishing all their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after." ~ Henry David Thoreau
Molodets, that was a 'labor of love'. You did it for your Droog, and also for those among us who have 'pestered' you to make such a video. Lars A. is a patient man. Respect.
It was actually awsome to see the surrounding area and see how people spend time there. It would also be interesting to see what a Russian sporting goods/outdoor store looks like.
Hi I would also like to see inside a Russian outdoor shop and old Russian military surplus vehicles and equipment places thanks Bryan from Perth Australia
I found it interesting how they strung the net under ice. In some survival situation you may find yourself needing to feed several people. Fishing gets two jobs done at the same time. I could be net fishing and cutting firewood, for example.
I enjoyed the video as another glimpse into the Russian back-country, but I agree, it didn't look very exciting. However, I really appreciate your efforts to bring us this footage as well as your descriptions of what is going on. Thanks!
Thanks for sharing Lars. I just like to see the country side where you live, especially this time of the year. The videos don't have to be much. A sausage fest is what we call an overabundance of testosterone in one given area, when every other word tends to be colorful. I think it stems from the work environment whenever there is labor involved, which then bleeds over to other activities when its just men. I find this to be true whenever I'm around groups of laborers. Doing concrete this summer it was the standard talk, and I actually found myself doing it also after being around it for a period of time. Its almost like picking up a speech accent when living in a different area. Before I knew it I was talking like a sailor as well.
Man Lars that ice is way too thin for this cat and more so being on a river. Very interesting though watching as they put the net in. I have done chainsaw training for many of the commercial fishermen in some of the First Nation Communities around here. Take care and have a good week Lars. Cheers Fred
😁😁😁😁😁 That's why they call it "fishing" and not "catching" All the vids are good... showing it all, the good, the iffy, the well.... It's all part of the greater picture of the life of a regular guy in Russia... 😃 Best Wishes Lars...!
Yeah, I know exactly what you mean about small fish, Lars. It sucks, really. The saddest thing is that there is no way to explain why it is wrong doing to these people. As for cursing, you didn't mention that in some rural areas domestic animals tent to understand cursing (мат) better than "normal" language. Like a horse wouldn't move/stop/go straight unless you apply some three-story cursing to it. Same goes for some people, unless you curse properly at them, they just don't get it. It is as funny, as it is sad. Great video, I think it's one of the best you've done recently, the atmosphere transition to the viewer is very clear and perceptive.
Thanks Lars, Glad you filmed it, it is part of that country, just like places here in US that have the same culture in about every area. Where men will talk like young men, trying to empress the others , I guess ? ( in some places it is called Pool Hall talk) but places I played Pool " pocket billiards" talk like that was not tolerated. I guess other places it was. .............I grew up in the 1950's ...........Have a good day !
First of all, I must say, the scenaries of the place are just epic. Coulld be used in some historical movie or something.) I was even expecting the pioneers company of Novgorod Republic from 12 century, crawling through the forrest could be suddenly caught by camera.) You should be doing your "back door life" video in this winter or middle-summer dresses, I think. But you have chosen the the short late autumn moment, sorrowfull as swedish death metal from 90s.) Anyway I enjoyed the image of the guys frozen in stress-reliefing poses as a collective monument to winter-fishermen, went out from the wifes to use art of laguage without boundaries and to contemplate the magic of nature and silence.)
Ice fishing is a BLAST! You can see all the way to the bottom of the water crystal clear. You watch the fish swim up, inspect & bump your lure, jig a little, just right, then YANK! And set the hook at just the perfect moment. It's MUCH more direct and visual the open water fishing
Thanks for not recording the colourful language and keeping your videos clean and open to a wider (and younger) audience. I don't appreciate bad language..it's not necessary. We come here for the content not the swearing. Great video as always..I think I will subscribe now Lars..
I'm not sure the algorithm is trained on Russian but I think you are correct, better safe than sorry. And thanks for taking us along for another "day in the life".
When I was younger I was like those villagers 😂 now when I get around certain friends I will revert back to my younger years of vocabulary. So I can relate and let me tell you some just are more colorful with the way the curse, it’s like poetry 😂
Nice video and a beautifull scenery Lars. However that ice fishing looks indeed very boring, of course that only reflects my personal view. Your video gave me some ideas of should I say requests. What about a canoe trip and fishing with a fishing rod. A review about the Lada Niva or a video about your pretty impressive EDC car-kit. Thanks for sharing your adventures! Pine Fox
I used to go ice-fishing on the lakes around here, I preferred the lakes at higher altitude and deeper as the fish tasted better and were often bigger (Rainbow Trout, Lake Trout, Brook Trout and Burbot) unfortunately no Pike as the Fisheries Department see them as a threat to the Trout Fisheries (I don't like the taste of trout compared to Pike). Perch are not available either, they are also seen as an invasive species.
Lol, this sounds like any (northern) Canadian ice fishing trip, but with the 'colourful' language down to about 1 per sentence rather than every 2-3 words. I've never been a fan of ice fishing either, but I keep in touch with guys that know hotspots, and usually go out to a couple good lakes per year. Good video as always man.
They are out in the Forrest , away from the wives and I'll bet it wasn't coffee they were drinking lol but that's how life is in remote places all over the world. It's easy to criticize them but it's their home and their ways. As long as everyone is happy 👍 Thanks again for another awesome video.
I''ll take more fishing videos! If there are too many small fish in a lake, none of them will get big. That is why they take out small fish when they cultivate a lake. I don't know about creeks, but if there are too many of the small ones I guess none of them will get big there either. Salted and smoked fish makes good topping on a bread slice. And can be stored for a long time. I hope you will get bitten by the fishing bug and will be making more fishing videos in the future! Never say never :-) Have a good evening!
I am a coastal fishermen, beach/surf casting and always release little guys, it's the only way. Nothing better than catching a nice Cod and cooking him up on a hot rock rite on the beach. Nature provides us with all, it's just down to us to give back the ones that are for next season so I agree Lars
Hi Lars - Very interesting video and a very interesting spot along that river. You live in a VERY flat area! The elevation at that (concrete blocks) bridge is 117 meters and you could go upstream or downstream many kilometers and the elevation would not change by more than 1 meter. There must be practically no current flow there. I can understand the mosquito situation in the warmer months...! The glaciers must have bulldozed the whole area flat pretty well. Thanks for sharing - guys doing guy stuff - even if it is not really practical... Cheers!
There are current in the river. This is why there were no ice on the West side of the bridge. I'm not sure glaciers did the work. Maybe this is an old lake giant lake bed, as there are no rocks here at all.
Hi - I think you are right - Glaciers would have left gouges and piles but you are pretty far north... You had said the soil is pretty uniform, so that sounds like an ancient sea or lake bed. Maybe some fossils to be found underneath?
the colourful language sounds very much like us scots lol . new subscriber really enjoying the channel thank you lars for showing what Russia's actually like
My greatest ambition is to move away from this damagingly artificial society, and to raise children properly. I appreciate the work that you do and that you are able to share it with all of us. Brilliant work, cheers from Canada :)
Ice fishing is nice if it's done over a body of water that is known to have, say, large perch, whitefish, char or even pike swimming around aplenty. Sitting around pulling up minnow-sized guys is not too awesome in my opinion either. I once happened on a small brook in Northern Finland, not even a river, that had so much perch in it you could cast blind and always land something. The trout and pike in the brook didn't bite though. Weren't the biggest perch, but a plastic bag full didn't really put a dent in the swarm of fish and is certainly enough for fish soup. Normally I throw small fish back, unless they damage their gills/innards on the retrieve in which case: A quick death and on the pan they go. Good to see you got at least a little snow Lars. Here it seems winter is schizophrenic and doesn't know whether to come on and how strong(or if at all, 2-3 years ago we had a winter with basically no snow). Won't go into specifics why I haven't been commenting in a while again, though I am sorry for it. No amount of walking outdoors or reading books seems to dispel the grueling haze in my head at the moment.
It seems winter is coming on now here. We should get below -15 soon, but we have little snow still. I wish you good luck getting rid of the haze my friend :)
The language thing is not only Russian, it's all slavic language thing. Congrats on hitting 100k, you earned it. Winter is coming. BTW, dynamite fishing would be more efficient ;)
Love your morals Lars! My wife fires off every once in awhile in that most fantastic of linguistic art forms known as Russian cussing, they can be very descriptive...
haha i remember from when I was little my Opas had very colorful language. Lol. i love to fish even in the winter but I have not went out for a few years. Thank you for the video and have a great week to you and family.
My grandfather was i suspect similar in mindset to your neighbors there. If he caught it it was his to eat and was not happy when they started upper length limits in addition to minimum size limits. He just could not fathom the time spent catching fish to let them go. He never kept more than his limit but was always ticked when we had to release a bigger fish in order to catch a smaller one.
I totally get how the villagers' way of talking can be colourful. Here in Italy is the same, in some regions (like the one where I live) people even use blasphemy in almost every sentence.
G'day Lars, I agree with you. That's not real fishing. What a pity for those tiny fish... too small to give to our cat. If you don't leave the little ones they never grow up and all you've got is small fish all the time. Fishing is where you get several good size fish that can make a big family meal. I prefer Southern Rock Lobster (we call them crayfish). Beautiful sweet, white meat and lots of it. The Japanese pay fortunes for large Tasmanian Rock Lobster so it's hard to find the good ones unless you have a secret spot. When I was a kid there were so many Crayfish that we used to get sick of eating them. But now I still like them grilled with salt, pepper and lemon juice. My favourite fish is Whiting caught on a boat and cooked in a pan 5 minutes after being caught, so sweet and tasty. We also have beautiful rainbow trout but I don't like all the small bones. Anyway, Lars, you don't have to do fishing videos if you don't want to. Cheers, BH
I have been catching crayfish in Sweden. It is a Swedish tradition you can say. There used to be crayfish around here too, but I think the waters got too murky for them. The beavers make a lot of trouble here. Thank you very much Bill :)
I remember photos of old timers in the bush in northern Ontario, Canada, with strings of fish caught. These fish were huge...running from 2 ft to 4 ft long...dozens hanging for the day's catch. And now their children complain that the lakes are fished-out of all large fish. Well no wonder, their fathers fished out all the "trophy" sized fish and introduced "bait" fish to the lakes, ruining the lakes for ever.
G'day@@blueeyeswhitedragon9839, Yep, what you're saying is right. My uncles and other relatives caught much bigger fish. But this didn't cause a stocking problem because when you take a big fish you tend to take less in number. And then you get so spoilt you throw back medium size fish that get to breed and grow up. Of course, the golden rule was always throw back a female with roe, that's the real crime that eventually depleats the fish stocks. One female can lay hundreds of eggs so they were never taken for food. Sadly, every butcher's shop New Zealand flounder I've had in recent years has been a female with roe. This sould be outlawed by the New Zealand government... maybe it is... maybe that why they turn up in Australian butchers' shops. It's a greedy world we live in now that cares little about the future of our waters and bushland. Cheers, BH
Try east coast Canada, or north Central. If you can't understand what they're saying, you can suss it out (oot) by using your keen ears hav'in been being used to the colourful speak of the work'en man. Check out the youtube channel "AVE" . What a magnificent bastard he is. UA-cam can't sensor him because they don't know what he is saying.😊
Hey Lars, can you do a video on keeping your feet warm in rubber boots in the cold weather. Especially for when you have to sit for a while after moving. It seems like no matter what I do my feet freeze. But, the insulated rubber boots are too useful to give up.
I haven't been ice fishing in years. I would kind of like to do it again just "because" but I agree, it's not real exciting......and your feet get real cold standing or sitting on the ice without moving. The language problem sounds much like the USA. Some people use the "F" word in front of every third word they speak. Sounds pretty stupid to me, but what do I know?
lars wae speaking not just about the problem of using swore or exact bad words, but that guys in the wilderness talk alike. For example if heard one of guys told a story "about one idiot who tried tu pull his car out from mud in wrong way" - listeners would have a light course of human anatomy, salted with artistic allegories hyperbolisations and even with choreography.))
Interesting that you point out these differences between you and the locals. I guess it's just the general thing being raised in europe where you have much less (and far more protected) wildlife and wilderness than in russia. Nontheless, great and informative video! This winter I will finally try a siberian log fire ;)
Seems you're liv'n life right. I love the look of the country you're in and the things you are privileged to do such as the porker. Ice fishing is not for me either, but I sure love the look of the stream running through the forest. Wish I could smell it and see and hear the wolves. All that is GOOD liv'n!!! Almost forgot, are they gray wolves? What is their primary food source?
Mr Lars a word of advice. When off roading do not have your thumbs inside the steering wheel, keep them on the outside of the wheel. I have many Jeeps and when a rut grabs your wheels it can jerk it and may spran or break your thumb. Don't ask how I know lol Thanks for the video.
Hi Lars, I lived in Russia for a year. As I'm from europe and speak quite a few languages I found it very difficult to learn russian. My russian girlfriend would only translate very little of the things spoken to me what realy upset me but she wouldn't translate "colourful" words. After a while I couldn't be bothered anymore and stopped asking and got fed up with that look in her eyes (oh please don't ask me to translate THAT). Pissed me of endlessly but she was ok, BLYAT! :-)
...ice-fishing is a "sport" I've done all my life, it's definitely a bit masochistic, that's for sure...I've had many memorable brutal trips, but some great ones. too. A trip to Northern Ontario would make you see the attraction in drowning some worms...
With right equipment ice fishing is great, I just did 48 hours straight on the ice either fishing or sleeping last week before this cold hit. Planning another 2 days for next week too
Hi Lars my Grandpa and father were fishermen, I am not. If the fish were biting I was OK with fishing. But if the were not biting and I had to sit there and wait, It was not good my mind would start to wonder and shortly after my feet would start wonder and I would be off some place else. enjoyed the last few videos of small town life. It was how I grew up on a small farm in Washington State.
Not releasing the small fish is good for the bigger ones. Many waters, at least in Norway, has a lot of SMALL fish and that is because 1) people don't fish or 2) only big ones are kept. :)
You describe them like how i talk, 95% cursewords and 5% ordinary words ;D but i change when i speak to elder people offcourse, keep up the good work, cheers from Sweden !
Like another poster, it may actually be better for that area to cull the small fish Not all of course but its encouraged on many lakes and rivers here.Just depends on the circumstances
My father inlaw relayed a personal experience from a couple of weeks ago. He was watching people of of a different nationality netting in a creek. they caught fingerlings and all were put in the bucket. He tried to tell them the fish were no good, too small and all they would reply was "Soup", "Soup". He shook his head in disgust and walked away. Australia
I can relate to what you said about colorful language. Here in Iowa, USA, I have 5 friends from Central Asia who speak Russian, and they told me that Russian guys swear more than any other group they know. They said there are more swear words in Russian than in any other language.
In canada, some people will pull every fish out of the water, no matter how small it is not awesome. Lars, Christmas is coming, do the ninjas have a wish list?
Lars I get every word you mean about the guys and the fishing. I grew up in the back woods of Canada and understand you all the way.
Great video.
Aaah...Lars you took one for the team. Look at it from a positive side you helped Sasha and his father to have a day fishing with some friends! You know I am sitting here in Florida in shorts and T-shirt and find it interesting. Thank you!

Kind of an awesome video showing what some of the locals do in the area for fish. Thanks for sharing Lars
Fishing "communication" is an art form.

Cabelas, BasPro, Big 5, Academy ?
Hi I would also like to see inside a Russian outdoor shop and old Russian military surplus vehicles and equipment places thanks Bryan from Perth Australia
Lars, The way you were fidgiting on this fishing trip is like me when my wife somehow gets me into a knitting goods store..
Some brave fishermen at work there, i would never have dared to step on such thin ice. but i think colorful words would keep me afloat too. ;-)
I found it interesting how they strung the net under ice. In some survival situation you may find yourself needing to feed several people. Fishing gets two jobs done at the same time. I could be net fishing and cutting firewood, for example.

It was +10cm, and that is good for lakes but not really rivers as you point out, hence me standing on the bank :)

love your videos hello from Minnesota . ✌✌✌✌
That is beautiful country. That alone made this video.
Luv ice fishing. Beer stays nice and cold.
Whiskey weather

Greetings, fellow Fraser. :)
Whatever the occasion may be, there is always time for SLF :D I bet if you could fish with SLF you would do it for shure
Thank you Lars .
Russia is especially beautiful in winter time.
Looks more like an excuse to socialise, with the actual fishing being a distant second place. And why not?
A post fishing gathering around the log fire, some alcohol, some colorful language with subtitles would have been awesome.
We ice fish and yes it’s an excuse to socialize, but getting fish is not secondary
The art form is appreciated! I know what you mean :)
I'm sure you do :)
Thanks Lars. I pretty much release all my fish.
Can you hunt for the beavers? @@SurvivalRussia
Cheers, BH
Sounds like the equivalent of how Aussies speak English. I didn't realize how much we swore compared to other English speakers until I went to Europe.
Dated an aussie girl a few years back, and she was surprised by how prudish and easily-shocked yanks are! 😂😂
Muskrat Outdoors yes the f word is a problem.
Hi. I found a solution for the freezing legs on the ice - a simple cardboard box to step in does the job.
lars wae speaking not just about the problem of using swore or exact bad words, but that guys in the wilderness talk alike. For example if heard one of guys told a story "about one idiot who tried tu pull his car out from mud in wrong way" - listeners would have a light course of human anatomy, salted with artistic allegories hyperbolisations and even with choreography.))
@@outpost2996 Ha! I understand! Not a video for the Pink Ninja to watch!
@@oprov46 Good idea! I knew one guy that had a 2x2 foot piece of Styrofoam sheet to stand on.
Love your channel Lars
Interesting that you point out these differences between you and the locals.
I guess it's just the general thing being raised in europe where you have much less (and far more protected) wildlife and wilderness than in russia.
Nontheless, great and informative video! This winter I will finally try a siberian log fire ;)
Some locals see things much like I do :)
Would like to see you take a canoe trip down your local Rivers
I would like to do one actually :)
Hang out with you friends, Life is Too Short not to!
Brilliant stuff Lars, my colourful local language is an art form like your locals lol bleeping wonderful ☠👍👍👍⛏💙
What is their primary food source?
very thank you Lars
Ice fishing in mid-November? You first, Lars! Late December, maybe.
That looks one of the lakes near my cabin.
I need to get out more.
...ice-fishing is a "sport" I've done all my life, it's definitely a bit masochistic, that's for sure...I've had many memorable brutal trips, but some great ones. too. A trip to Northern Ontario would make you see the attraction in drowning some worms...
LOL :)
Ha ..and Lars had to make a Siberian log fire..Awesome
Not releasing the small fish is good for the bigger ones. Many waters, at least in Norway, has a lot of SMALL fish and that is because 1) people don't fish or 2) only big ones are kept. :)
You describe them like how i talk, 95% cursewords and 5% ordinary words ;D but i change when i speak to elder people offcourse, keep up the good work, cheers from Sweden !
It was cool I'd like to see you out fishing ! That would be interesting ! Great place you live in there !!! Its beautiful for sure ! Be good brother
Thanks Tom :)
I can hardly tell that you disapprove of that kind of fishing... ;-)
Very interesting.
Like another poster, it may actually be better for that area to cull the small fish
Not all of course but its encouraged on many lakes and rivers here.Just depends on the circumstances
We ice fish on lakes, here.rivers, not so much. Trout, salmon in spring, fall.
The silence out there, I need some of that. I’ve only ever ate a few fish I’ve caught. I generally always fish for sport.
My father inlaw relayed a personal experience from a couple of weeks ago. He was watching people of of a different nationality netting in a creek. they caught fingerlings and all were
put in the bucket. He tried to tell them the fish were no good, too small and all they would reply was "Soup", "Soup". He shook his head in disgust and walked away. Australia
Ha you should come to my workplace, every other word is eff this and eff that, I'm in the UK!
I can relate to what you said about colorful language. Here in Iowa, USA, I have 5 friends from Central Asia who speak Russian, and they told me that Russian guys swear more than any other group they know. They said there are more swear words in Russian than in any other language.
Awesome, we use very "colorful language" here stateside as well friend ;)
In canada, some people will pull every fish out of the water, no matter how small it is not awesome. Lars, Christmas is coming, do the ninjas have a wish list?
Beautiful Place, We Use Bad Language Here In Britain All The Time...
