So THIS is what you've been up to! After a 3 month build, you must be delighted with this result. We rely on you Tom to push the boundaries of possibility and you've certainly come through with this beautiful 44" twin pusher. Simply stunning, and I'm sure I speak for everyone in looking forward so much to seeing more flights with this exceptional plane. Hearty congrats on this huge success! 🌟👍
Wow! You're certainly not one to shy away from a challenge - building or flying - are you, Tom? Your twin flying wing is a rare beauty on the ground, but even more so in the air. She should garner some serious bonus points. Thanks so much for sharing!
I invariably shake my head and go back to the workshop. What a masterpiece. And your field is perfect. Its taken a few years of watching your videos to figure out that the wind I've been avoiding flying in are thermals. You always teach me something. Thanks!
Rubber free flight has to be my favorite form of aircraft modeling. To build a twin engine pusher and to have it fly so well is an impressive accomplishment!
I’ve always been fascinated with the concept ideas of the Aircraft companies especially in the 1930’s era. Watching you bring this concept to life was a lot of fun. Wether you realize it or not, I think you missed your calling as an aeronautical engineer. Perhaps you are! A beautiful build and impressive aerodynamic problem solving.
The opening shot made the hair on the back of my neck stand up and gave me full body goosebumps. Had to play it over and over with the sound cranked up. Another Masterpiece.
Ha....thx. After I saw her safely pass the tripod cam, and I started breathing again, I couldn't wait to see what I'd captured. Couldn't have planned that better if I'd tried. A lucky shot for sure.
I wish I had had the patience required to trim freeflight models. In my defense, I was building Guillow's models that were apparently made of solid oak. Still in the hobby today, but I build models out of Depron now with micro RC components. It's what I dreamed of when trying to make those Lead Sleds fly. Your Artistry and your skill absolutely amazes me. Great stress reliever. Thank you so much.
It's good to have you back, Tom - you haven't posted for a long time. That's an amazing plane and you have it flying beautifully. Thanks. Tom (from France).
Fabulous and inpiring, like all of your other planes. Thank you for bringing joy. I can't stop thinking in that these creatures are so fragile and strong at the same time. The structural design work and the construction workmanship itself are admirable.
Great conception, great execution. Wonderful build and finish. Masterful trimming session resulting in such great flights. I'm in awe of your skill and knowledge, and your application of it in creating this unique model airplane. This and you are what our hobby is all about.
Absolutely loved the "motor" sound as it flew over the camera, in the beginning. Your channel quit showing up in my playlist and I have missed it. Searched for you today with "free flight models", just to see what you were up to. The stooge you built to hold it while winding and the foam prop blocker were genius.
Superb flights. The last one seemed to have caught a small thermal. Flights were as elegant as the real life avians we saw at the end of the video. Very inspiring. Envy the large field with soft tall grass.
Thx. They cut that section of the field in late spring, so I was glad to be able to use it before it was gone. Except for the dirt landing, she never hit the turf.
What a wonderful piece of art you ´ve crafted ! The counter rotating propellers is the right concept. Watching the flights is more exciting than watching radio controlled model aircrafts Even the bird seems to like it. Admiring !
You have built yourself one heck of a model there, I'm looking forward to the day when she catches a big thermal on a calm evening and shows what she can do. I've just begun to add some flying wings to my rc collection and my only is regret not doing it sooner. Some tiny rc gear would fit nicely into this model.
I really enjoy all your builds and all of your videos, but this is an absolute stunner. Wow! What a beauty! I've been watching your channel for a few years now. I'm a static scale modeler who's dabbled in some flying models as a kid. So the interest has always been there but for some reason I just never pursued it. Every time I watch one of your videos I think I need to change my hobby. Thank you for your calming, soothing, and inspiring content.
I remember being entranced by the smaller one when it appeared on your show... And now this one is wonderful! Exquisite structural workmanship with attention to detail that is superior. The airplane flies really well... Great job and great presentation.
Most excellent! Beautiful build, beautiful flying! Love to see kids in my ... uh ... "age category" still getting a kick out of building & playing with toys! 👍👍👍
Thx. I don't have the plans drawn up for publication, but it was based on this plan of the single engine version: hallmanstudio.com/Bruning_BOEING_306B.pdf
Well, that is beyond beautiful Tom! I enjoy watching your videos and learn from them. You sure create some interesting construction methods. Thank you foe sharing!!
Ahah, u r right i know now!!!😁 No wonder u did not post any new vids for quite a while!!!🤔 Now I understand what u've been doing during all this time🤓...and it was all for the best as always.😎😉🤗 How much time did u spend for building her, in overall hours? @@ZUSMANELEN Hard to say the hours, but I usually was in the balsa every day for at least an hour or so thru the 3 months. Felt like the perfect balance between life matters and studio work. Love when it works out that way.
On that last launch I happened to notice the thermaling Vulture just as it left your hand, and watched in awe as it headed straight for it! Wait till Vance sees it!😉❤️ Hi again from San Diego👋
Ha thx. The Thermal Gods were definitely taking notice and planted a couple of fans, as I never looked behind myself to see what was happening. VG saw these for sure, and will see the ship this weekend at the Wawa Spring contest. Can't wait to get her going again.
Wonderful! seems to want to tighten the spiral with perhaps thermals/updrafts? Still much more stable than I expected and another lovely bird. Thanks for sharing!
The air was swirling for sure. But there's also the ever present changing speed of the individual props because of the tight quarters. Just pleased that she seems to right herself through most of it.
What a marvelous job. Your attention to detail and patience in test flying is to be commended. As a lifelong lover of aircraft ( especially those that were a bit unusual in design) they have always fascinated me. The job you did on this build and presentation is great. No photos left but about 60 years ago I built a large balsa Dornier 217 J2 from scratch using old prints. At first I wanted to do a RC version but back then RC gear was spendy and it never got past the control line level. But it was impressive and with a wingspan of over 5' its' excellent detailing always drew a crowd. Your work on this old Boeing design makes me want to look for some drawings for Howard Hughes X11 that he built at the end of WWII for the army, Another twin boom twin engine monster in its time. Keep up the nice work. Old Bob
Hi Bob. Thx for the kind words. I'm glad u were able to see this ship in action, since uv certainly had quite a bit of airtime throughout ur life. Thx for taking the time to share ur thoughts. Go for the Hughes X11...looks to be quite a good twin, no matter how u would power it up, but I'd be tempted to try rubber for sure.
Allow me a brief diversion from the magnificence and genius of your model building art to consider this: Is it a true flying wing with elevons rigged out like that or just an extremely close-coupled conventional design? But I see the distinctive reflexed trailing edge so I guess she is indeed a flying wing, beautiful
I guess that's up for debate, but it still feels like a big flying wing to me. Even with the elevons & rudders, it still faces many of the same challenges.
Outstanding! I have seen that plan online and an article on the Boeing flying wing concepts (including a tailless flying boat). Your model is beautiful and spectacular to watch!
