This has definitely been my hardest struggle for drumming, thanks for completely taking that away and giving me the confidence I needed! :D
hhhjhb
Begginer here, hopefully I can have some independence on my arms because they follow whatever my feet are doing
@@marcogil6665 hey man, 6 years later I’m WAY better, practice makes perfect!
@@JadenZeCreator Hey thanks for replying! that's great,I will practice it as much as possible
@@marcogil6665 you got it dude 🤘🏻
Practicing with my invisible drums :(
Your not alone bro!!
same here broski. all you need is a pair of sticks. Like Anthony Kiedis says, "music the great communicator, use two sticks to make it in the nature"
me too
Invisible drums are the best! I'm awesome with those! ;-)
Same😥😀
- Hey everyone, Jared here and today we're gonna talk about separating your limbs.
- No thanks Jared, I'd rather keep my limbs on.
Ferdasyn 😆
-- Hey everyone, Jared here and today we're gonna talk about separating our limbs.
-- Excuse me, I don't wanna be "quarterized". :- [
🤣🤣😂😂😍😂😂
"Most of you will get here quickly, this is where the challenge begins"
Me - Struggles for 2 hrs on step one....
I’m struggling to do step 1 at 60bpm 😂
Ya but eventually you got, hopefully. :)
SAMEE :,) i finally got it now tho
1st step was so frustrating but after a couple hours of repeating over and over again I finally got it and the rest was much much easier. Great help
I can't believe what a valuable resource Drumeo has been!!!
From all us amateurs, THANK YOU! Years of hating my left foot, 5mins exercise for 2 days and BAM! Not perfect yet but soo sooo soooo much better.
Holy crap this really works! I practice the first exercise for about 20 minutes and reach 200 bmp but I played it in quarter notes. I was struggling on a song with meant for a double bass pedal but can be played on a single pedal. Anyhow, I kept on hitting the crash at the exact same time my foot would hit the bass drum. I played it over once and I did the same thing in the beginning but halfway through the song I noticed I could actually play my right foot independently and not have to worry about my foot flowing my right hand.
What song is that?
And you could play your pedal independently and not have it connected to your right hand? Cause I have that problem and I wanna know if this video helped you with that
It takes 5 minutes to learn it, but it took me around a week to really get everything going properly. And I am below average :)
"As drummers, we're required to use all 4 of our limbs"
*Rick Allen laughs in the distance*
I just bought my first kit (e-kit) and its my first time playing the drums, and i just have to say that all your videos are extremely helpful.
Thank you, really.
Hi Jared, another great video, a lot harder than it sounds.
My approach to this was always:
"Take ANY rudiment that you're practicing, and just stick a kick in between the notes".
Great way to build up coordination and foot speed at the same time...
this is so hard oh man. I can groove with my hands but mixing my feet into it makes my hands want to do what my feet are doing. Great lesson I defnintely need to work on it
Exactly what I'm going through. It's tough
Tried this out today. My legs tense up while playing the bass drum on certain tracks. This really helped ease that. Thanks man. Gonna keep practicing this one.
i've been wanting to become more advanced at my main instruments lately, so i've been watching a lot of youtube videos for guitar, piano, and drums. while the others are great, yours are my favorite. this exercise helps so much with clean separation, especially in fills that require off-beat kick pedal. thanks a bunch!
omg! finally I've been looking for this for so very long this has always been my weak spot
Is this 8 years ago or 8 hours ago -- Dude looks exactly the same. Mad respect for not aging! Drumeo's perpetual drum machine of youth.
Happy to be of service!
I WAS FINDING THIS MY WHOLE LIFE BECAUSE I CAN'T SEPARATE MY LEFT HAND AND RIGHT FOOT!
I’ve never had lessons and started playing as an adult, I have played lots of songs successfully but never actually learned with exercises. I tried this recently and was amazed how difficult I found it initially, but within 45 mins was able to get to 100bpm, I went up in 5bpm increments from 70. This was just the basic one to start with but I think it has helped me as I am now suffering less with my right leg trying to follow my right arm in some patterns! Good exercise thanks 👍
I love you for trying! Keep it up and it'll all come together nicely :)
8yrs later, you're still helping people. Thank you bro.
As with most all new drummers, this is an exercise that i really needed! Separating all my limbs has been the most difficult thing for me so far! Looking forward to using this exercise! Thanks!!
This is surprisingly challenging for being so simple, thanks for a great exercise!
This has been the thing that has been the most difficult to get to grips with. I am around 4 days now into practicing it now and I have been concentrating on it for most of my practice. I can do the quarter notes into triplets and out again at 70 maybe 80 bpm pretty although it has taken a long time and they are still far from perfect. I am now starting to introduce some hi hat notes and it's very difficult. It is going to take some time to learn this properly. I can't believe just how difficult this simple and straightforward exercise is.
Can’t wait to try this and do it! Thanks for all the great advice
best drumeo video I have seen! thankyou!!!
Agreed... We should've caught that. It's probably because I was playing it a little lighter then normal since there was a lot more notes in those patterns :)
Jared, thank you so much for showing us this exercise!!
just the lesson i needed. thank you Jared!
Worlds best drumlessons, and they are free! Unbelieveable.
Thanks Jared! This is a really useful exercise!
My drum teacher plays and teaches in a really similar way to Jared, so watching these is like getting an extra lesson. Plus, this is exactly what we've been working on. Honestly, without these videos, I'd be absolutely useless on drums!
I started drumming two years ago. I'm 42 now so that gives you some idea of the difficulty I face. My whole left side has basically been a passenger all my life.
Once my mates got sick of every pattern being minor variations of 8th notes with the kick on the 1 and the 'and' of 3, it was time for real practice.
I've looked at lots of UA-cam drum teachers, but I always come back to Jared. If you do what he says, you'll get there. If it works for me, it should work for anyone.
So, thanks Jared.
10 years later, are you still drumming? I'm 36 and have always wanted to play the drums.
Thanks Jared. On the kit right now. It’s just what I needed… 👏🇦🇺👋
fun excercise to do ^^
but if u reduce the video speed to 0.5 it looks like Jared is drunk XD
ST13B3N OMG this is perfect XDDD
best comment ever
lmfao
0.75 he is high
yup
Thank you. Learning these drums is much harder than I expected, but I don’t give up.
I played snare and other percussion instruments in my school band for ~8 years but almost never incorporated my feet (used a hi-hat like 5 times), and I feel like a complete newbie when I try playing on a drum kit now. It’s really frustrating to be all there with my hands, but not able to do more than extremely basic exercises when including feet. Hopefully with this I’ll be able to get somewhere :)
drumeo is bae xD I learned so much
I have always had difficulty playing the hands and feet separately... Will practice this... Thanks a lot! :)
Amazing video, great explanation, slow and showing every step... Thanks!!! :D
Man all your tips help soooooo much!!! Thanks!
For me this coordination is not letting me play some songs n very difficult, but when I have to open the hi hat or do a slide complicates this video ta helping me ^ ^ thank you for providing their time to bring this material
Amazing exercise. Proud to be Canadian!
dang thats encouraging to see your feet seperate from each other. barely into learning the drums but the videos are helpful
been a strings instrument player (guitars/violin/viola) for about 14 years now and im just now picking up the drums. I have ALWAYS kept time with my feet while im playing and it is SO hard not always tap my feet right on the beat.
This was very helpful, I've been working on four limb independence for a while for Bop and other jazz drumming. this did the trick!
Hey there! Begginer drummer aspiring to play jazz here, what other exercises would you recommend? thanjs
@@marcogil6665 Honestly, if you've never really played jazz, I'd recommend learning the Purdie shuffle and other variations of the shuffle first. Drumeo has also done videos on this.
thank's a lot guys! best regards from Venezuela!
@Jared -thanks for torturing me with what should be simple! Honestly love your style of teaching and this is another fantastic simple (not really) practice. I am forcing myself to do each until I can get to 120 BPM....2 days and almost have exercise 1 down...LOL!!!
this is a very good practise! thank you so much!
Nice... I have been looking for a video like this because my daughter (who is 4) stared playing about a year and a half ago but she plays open handed. All the videos I have come across on hand foot independence are for crossed handed players. Before this pandemic she was working on her hands foot independence with her teacher but I think your exercises are a lot better.
Starting young! She'll be a great drummer :)
@@raymondbauer2152 thank you. The funny thing is nether her mother or I play any instruments. so she is at the will of her teacher and now during this pandemic we watch a few UA-cam videos or she will sing a song she knows and play the drums while singing.
Great video! Now I just have to wait till I can get to the church tomorrow to try this out lol I really need my own kit!
Great exercise for Gospel Chops thing! Thanks Jared!
i love your kit!!!
I’ll sure be doing it. I’m 5( just started and to separate my limbs is most difficult to do. Thanks for all you do to help unsold folks out. Lol 😢
Been needing this thanks cuz
awesome exercise man
thanks a lot for sharing :-)
This has helped me so much in 5 minutes
Of course I am! :)
This is really useful, thanks
You are awesome love what you show us.🙏🏼🇺🇸💪🏼👍🏼😎🥁
This is really helping me
Great lesson, thanks Jake Busey
It sound like an awesome lesson to practice at home. Will do it for sure.
How long does it take for an average person to learn that stuff if we say we will rehearse 30 min a day?
I have followed you in a bit over 4 months now and I am constantly progressing.
Now this is a great challenge for beginners!!! Thanks for putting this together. #drumeo #startingat40bpm lol 😂
Wow so good! Crazy just watching haha
The function of the spring is to provide rebound, i e it adds extra bounce to the kick. If you have it set too loose the kick doesn't flex back quickly enough for the next beat when you go fast. If it doesn't follow your foot snuggly back up again, e g it feels like your foot is losing contact with the pedal on the upstrokes, you've got it set too loose. I'm not sure if there's a definite downside from having it set too tight - so like Jared says: keep it on the tight side.
I just started drums 2 months ago and I played for my church first time yesterday. 1st set was horrible. Since I'm new I don't have a drum kit at all though I do have drum sticks as I air drum with the sticks anywhere that enabled me to play yesterday. I'm using a pot each for the snare and floor Tom, however I'm just worried for my right foot cos there's no base drum. Doing the first exercise as of now
oh gawd i need this and the other independence lesson
I love that snare
Thanks! :) :) good exercise !!!
Thanks! a kit awaits to be practiced at
U rock Jared! :D
at the beginning it seemed too difficult, but when it came right the first time I felt so HAPPY
I'm still having a hard time with step 1
You're not the only one. I only got myself to be able to smoothly do it at 70bpm up to 85bpm. I'm gonna keep at it though. Hopefully it doesn't take too long to get to 100bpm. I'm gonna keep this video open in a tab so I can keep coming back to it each practice session.
Same here. When i do left hand then base drum then right hand i keep following up with my left hand again and i keep doing that dumb shit. It makes me so annoyed
I'm in the same boat. Just do 10mins per day and you get there.
muy bueno, gracias.
DO IT!
That fallout boy ass beat at 2:47 lmao but on some real shit Thank you for this video I asked the drummer how to get my hands and feet independent and he said there’s no cheat code just practice and I was like well that didn’t help
Hey Jared thanks!!, I have a question: pedal tension you are using?
You guys always have the raddest kits, snares and hardware!
You should spare a 18” Crash and a 12” splash to us!
It would be greatly appreciated and will post an unboxing!
I have a brand new DDrum Hybrid 5 kit but no cymbals!
Drumeo,please help a musician out!
Your awesome!!!!
Thanks for this!
ps. Taken out of context, the title sounds what would be the opening song in an album for a deathgrinder band.
Thanks !
Jared, How long do you recommend one should be able hold the rythm before advancing?
fair enough, thanks for ansering my question
Thanks🙏🏽
Everybody purchase book called 4way coordination by Dahlgren and Fine. Great one.
would like to see more about separating the limbs
Nice video man, but you need to work on getting more of a triplet feel when playing those sixtuplets. Great exercise though and nice technique!!!
what books you guys recommend to practise independence?
Well, the second one is WAY harder than expected... let's do this anyway.
Spasibo!
Yes Lol ! Ten times more difficult ! goose bumps !
Awesome
100 bpm is really challenging. i barely make it up to 60. but the exercise is really good. 👍
Oh ! I understand know, thanks !
Good lesson, Jared. Coordination is not one of my strong suits when it comes to playing. this should help!
that's a copper snare, yeah? I'm diggin it :)
Step 1 is challenging for me right now. Gonna practice it every day though until i can make it to step 2.
i find this easier to play whilst rocking my left foot on the hi hat is that fine or will that affect the separation of my left foot
Thank youiiiuuuuuu
I gotta say my yamaha dtx400x foot pedals are hard to use. I also seem to cramp up
in the hip, so I'm using my heel instead of toe to tap pedal which helps. don't expect
to being playing in the band, this is just hobby fun for me.
