I have daily driven, tracked and raced Lotus cars for close to 20 years. It makes me happy to see young people driving these cars that get it.
Thoughts after 2 years of ownership:
- unassisted steering is the best kind of steering, period. Yes, you have to wrestle with it in car parks but it's a small sacrifice compared to what you gain in terms of driver-car communication. You know your rear tyres are going to slip right before the moment they do. You feel any tiny changes in road camber, level of grip, you can even tell whether your tyres are cold or hot by the steering feel alone!
- the exhaust note is mesmerising. Anyone who says the supercharged V6 doesn't sound great clearly hasn't driven one of these. Unfortunately, if you have any plans of taking this to a track day (and if you don't, you're looking at a wrong car), you need a "quiet" aftermarket solution because both steel and titanium stock exhausts are too loud for any noise-restricted race track, at least in the UK. If you get one though, you will lose that lovely sound and that's a tragedy.
- The stock audio system. I don't know how else to say it, it's just crap. It's beyond me why Lotus would opt to put two front speakers in and leave two speaker sockets behind the seats empty. Why not just use the rear ones? You can't hear a thing coming from the front two at any kind of speed. So that's another aftermarket must-have.
- The li-ion battery they install by default will give you a headache if you don't have a way to trickle-charge it while it's not in use. It goes flat after just two weeks of no use and then good luck getting into your car if you locked it with the fob because, surprise, surprise, the central locking system is not connected to the manual door locks. Oh, and you can't jump-start these either. It might be saving a bit of weight but IMO it's not worth it. Spec it with the standard acid battery if you're buying new and get a dead-switch too.
- The build quality - I don't feel like I should be complaining about it. I'm pretty happy with it overall. However, these are hand-built cars so YMMV. I have blown up my suspension once and the gear shifter stick broke off another time but you can expect that type of thing if you track your car. OK, maybe the gear stick incident is somewhat weird...
- Warranty and support. Lotus are the absolute champs! They really make you feel like you're part of their family the moment you order your car. Had some major repairs done under warranty and each one was handled with maximum care, no questions asked.
- Handling and performance are unparalleled. Nothing handles like a Lotus. The Exige is a road-legal race car, no more, no less. How about 1.6 G through a corner on road tyres? It's a monster of a track weapon. A friendly monster. One that doesn't want to eat you alive at any time you make a mistake but one that works with you and tries to help you in every way it can. Oh, but it will devour all those Porsches and BMWs and really anything else you might come across at a race track.
- The body is fragile and accidents can be expensive (for your or, hopefully, third-party's insurance company). There are no bumpers so any hit to your car will have to be absorbed by the fibreglass clamshells and/or carbon-fibre aero kit. These things are not cheap to replace. Also, god forbid you damage the aluminium chassis, that could be the end of it.
- The looks - I mean, what can I say... Lotus, how on Earth did you manage to make a car THAT SEXY looking?! It's a pretty rare vehicle to see on the road, especially if you go anywhere outside of the UK. The amount of attention it attracts can get almost annoying at times. Everyone and their dog will be taking pictures of your car. It's kind of fun...
All in all, it's not an easy vehicle to own. The number of times I thought to myself "I should've got a Porsche" would be hard to count but boy am I glad I haven't. The Exige is a sports car in it's truest form - flawed in many ways but just so rewarding in many others.
What Exige do you have? Any issue with its max revs at 6,7k rpm if yours is a 380? I know someone hating it because the 350 revs up to 7,2 rpm instead... he's convinced its a 380 flaw!
Konstantin Kudryavtsev . You are right about the Exige, and the steering is not that heavy to park, because the engine is in the back and the car is light, light, lightning, blisteringly quick. You can play with other super cars that have almost double the power on an alpine pass, but not on a highway. It's not made for that.
@@449Raphael sounds like you have never driven one. Steering is super heavy in parking because of the wide tyres and regardless of engine location.
No man, I drove all my life with lotuses and Venturi,s. I own 2 esprit,s and and Elise and a Speedster turbo without servo. I'm currently on holiday with the speedster and driving now all the mountain passes in Switzerland and France. I've beaten a Geiger Camaro and a gallardo with it on the furka pass 2 days ago. Even motorcycles are no match. I'm not a big guy, steering is light. I stick with it. One of my esprit has steering assist, the other cars don't. I have to say. I only driven an Exige with 400hp once on the Francorchamps track, not on daily use, but steering was ok. My girlfriend drives most of the time my speedster, no servo and for her no problems. Do you really own one. I have my doubts.
By the way, regardless of engine location! An engine weighs about 200kg. and it is a big difference if you have that lump above your steering axle. Keep also in mind that an Exige weighs approx between 400 and 900 kg less than other super cars. A Gtr weighs about 1700kg with that V6 in front. Such car is indeed not driveable without power steering. Exige is about 1100kgs with only the weight of the radiator and the abs unit in front. You really don't miss the servo when you drive it. Only with parking, but still ok.
I will never get tired of hearing and seeing this car. It is absolutely my dream car. Everything is spot-on.
Thank you and never stop making videos!
You must’ve overlooked the sidemirrors 🤣
@@BorjaOjeda what about them?
Also, who needs mirrors anyway? 😜
Seconded, watched this video a couple of times already, properly raw drivers car and great driving :)
Perfect quality video, im amazed, it's way too awesome, the car, the music, everything 😍❤️
Lotus is so underrated
"Reachable goal" dream car for me. "Reachable" as in "I might be able to buy one at some point without winning the lottery or something", at leat one of the less fancy variants. Probably one of the last great truly analogue cars we're going to get.
Im afraid these will become very sought after and expensive in the near future. Hope i van get my hands on one before they do.
I got to drive the KTM X-Bow (330hp 790kg) on track and I would imagine this to be its on street counterpart.
A roof over your head and airconditioning but just as insane.
What a perfect daily for the real car enthusiast!
Sometimes I just come back to this video and enjoy the sound along with the music in full blast... freaking awesome!
For me the Lotus exige is THE super car. It’s a true beauty
You spoke to soul when you talked how that car is for people who want to drive. Just a pure raw cad form right, what a dream
you can't just stop here we need more vids, track the hell out of it ...keep up the content am waiting ...for the next vid
Stop posting these mate, I can just about afford one of these but need my grown up head for a house. 😂😂😂
Seriously though, absolutely loved every second of it. Keep it up. ✌👍
Seige CJ get the lotus
I really want to see Nurburgring laps with you Lotus my friend. You are a real pilot driver, not many "driver" use manual in these days. You have my admiration. Greetings from Argentina...
Thank you so much for making this video. There is criminally little quality content on Lotus cars that focus on the pure driving pleasure they bring
This cart is a work of art, it is perfect, I love its sound
Thanks for sharing. The pure growling of the exhaust setup is the best music to my ears. Nice driving skills too.
When people think of performance cars they always think of Porsche, but people need to pay more attention to Lotus. Lotus is always challenging the norm.
OMG That sound... That sound... Unreal... Speechless. I've driven the Exige 350, it was an insane experience, my best driving experience ever. I want to try out this one !
Just what the Doctor ordered!!! One of the BEST on UA-cam!!! Thank you sir
One of the best car videos I have ever seen! Thank you also for talking about Lotus. I’m, lucky enough to drive a Lotus Evora S. Another driver’s car with a similar feel! Thank you.
Brilliant. I hope LOTUS see this.
Have to go and watch it again 😎
This video deserves so much more! Great job and good driving!
That sound is soooo perfect love the video the intro is killer and the review is really well put
I keep coming back here as motivation to work towards an exige sport 410. Thank you again!
This is why the Hennessy Venom uses a Lotus chassis!
Anthony Conerly it looks better than an henessey venom.
@Blaine 0001 Yea and a longer rear with a bigger sub frame. Probably totally unbalances the car tbh
I love your videos and the camera work is unbelievable. I just wish they were here in the States.
Fantastic Video! Everything was on point and perfectly executed. Car sounds sick too!
This review has totally made me want one!! Great review! Love the artistic shots too!
Macchina stupenda che fa emozionare!
A wonderful machine that excites the perfect definition of a sports car.
Robert, this is brilliant! Thank you.
thats the best lotus sounds and review i have ever seen...
Just a beautifully built car! That sound❤️❤️Perfect! And this kid can drive👍
Oh the sound and the look of the thing 😍
The video maker is so talented. It's amazing!
Love the clocked wiper, gonna do it on my S2.
Love the videos keep them coming!
I love this car so much! My favourite car on the Internet the last half year. Thanks for the great videos with it.
The only reason I'd want to live in the city. The acoustics off those walls prefect the sound of a mean car.
So passionate..incredible. Thank you
WHAT A CAR. THIS IS WHAT A DRIVER'S CAR SHOULD BE.
When I see a Porsche, Lambo, Fezza, etc I feel bad for the car, wondering if the one in its driver's seat even vaguely underatands what their car is supposed to be about.
When I see someone driving a Lotus, I feel nice and happy, taking comfort in knowing that the driver is guaranteed to be a real car person and knows a thing or two about driving.
New sub from the states on route 66. So far I'm enjoying what your doing & looking forward to more.Keep up the great work!
Thank you for the video and for understanding what it's all about being a real car nut.
Beautiful review, this car deserved it ! As you said , Lotus philosophy is to create driver's cars, the purest and simplest joy of driving. If you love driving and have a minimum level of driving skills that's the car you need to go for. I own a Lotus and the driving pleasure is just enormous compare to way more expensive heavy powerful luxurious computerised "sport cars"
Have to say, the car is really cool. Amazing in fact. But your filming and production quality are astounding.
That car is unreal and amazing video, I love it all.
I regularly come back to this and the other 'Exige reaction' video.
a lotus exige is my dream car. manual, no powersteering, light and a lot of power. and is not crazy expensive!
You really triggered some old burried images and feelings with this video from my short period in the city. Schwabing - Highlight towers - university area what a great place and amazing car.....
Thanks and wish you the best for the future of your amazing work.
I would love to drive that thing... some empty B-roads in summer evening.
Great video!
Excellent video production, all round!
Beautiful machine and great cinematic video as always, sir.👏 This is a true driver's car... I love how raw and powerful it is, yet it remains so controllable. The color scheme appears to pay homage to the John Player Special Lotus cars of old, which is a very nice touch.😍👌 The HeelandToe logo looks right at home on the wing, too. Wonderful review, mate. Have a fantastic week ahead.👍
TheMick26 Thanks bud! It truly is one of my favourite cars i’ve ever driven. Love how pure it is!
Amazing video . Keep posting ! Especially with the exige !
Absolutely in love with that sound
What a gem of a drivers car 😍 also excellent quality video and review, and great driving skills there getting that thing sideways on semi's 😱

Absoluter Traumwagen.. Der Sound ist mal richtig Hammergeil.. Cooles Video.. 👌
Sound hört sich wie eine Blechtrompete an...
They are awesome cars to drive. I have also driven the Evora 410 which was also awesome. 👍🇬🇧

7:11 The V6 Exige always can surprise you and excite you. It's just the best car I've driven.
Ich kann nicht glauben das du dafür eine Deutsche Zulassung bekommen hast. Das Auto ist echt ein Traum😊😍
This video single-handedly made me want a lotus
This is a masterpiece ❤️
_That sound. That damned sound._
Funny Face Guy driving :D Nice :) Love it
Great car ,we want more car review like this!
This car sounds so good!
Wonderful video. You nailed it - this is what a driver’s car is, which needs to be said in this age of overweight cars with quiet low revving turbo engines, automatic transmissions, and nannies to save you when you get it wrong!
I'm gonna watch this again.
Beneide deine Video Schnitt Qualität!! spitze echt !! Und bin ein sehr Detail fokussierter, Vloger. Weiter so Top Top Top
Der klingt so geil und sieht wahnsinnig gut aus 😍👌
Yes Please!
Das einfach nur pur und echt!
Absolute beast!!
Your car is an absolute beauty ! I'm dreaming of this one. On day after I finish paying my morgage !
Beautiful machine.
Que belleza de auto.. no sé puede pedir más..
Beautiful car! Congratulations 👍
Great review 👍
I've seen one of your older videos with the blondie and your dad, and honestly I've never thought of wanting to own a lotus this much until I've seen your videos, its like a British version of the porsche gt3, the car is just so raw, a car for pure enthusiasts. your videos are on point !!!.
You should have more subscribers
