@@janh1186 I have had an Elise for 15 years...45k miles...only issue has been a bad engine temp sensor...no mechanical issues whatsoever...a modern Lotus is vastly more reliable than a Lotus from the mid 70s...most people just rotely say that shit, but have no first hand experience with them.
Yep, 2004+ they all have Toyota engines and gearboxes. I run a 2006 Elise daily all year round. You get electrical issues sometimes but most are cheap to fix. From about 2011 they also switched to Toyota electronics, so most of those vanished too.
@@BlatentlyFakeName One of the added benefits of being light and simple, is reliability...there just is less stuff to break. I had an W211 E55 AMG for a couple years...It was a fast car for sure...but pretty complex mechanically...Lots of little gremlins to fail. Ironically, I also have a 1997 Geo Metro we bought new (the 3cyl model), which has no bells and whistles...everything is manual...door locks...climate control...windows...seats...and it is the most reliable car we have ever had. Great with mileage...street racing...well, not so much!

Pictures cannot describe how insanely small it is. There are generally 2 big missconceptions about an elise/exige: how incredibly small they are and how incredibly comfortable they are. Those cars are tiny with a ton of leg room and softer suspension than most people think.
Turboman_64 Exactly, they‘re superb once you‘re inside. The Öhlins suspension on my car here is even „comfier“ than the oem Bilsteins.

@@1ce2berg It's faster on track than the "old" Cayman GT4, but the new one will be quicker I guess. I'll find out soon enough. :D If you compare this very car to other Porsches... it's exactly on par with a 991.2 GT3 in Spa-Franchorchamps. The GT3-RS is a different ballgame.
@@BaeHarrier that's insane. But yea I would never get this over the porsche, simply because of the interior quality/finishing and the amazing reliability, and that matters as I am no mechanic. However, if I was really rich then I would definitely buy one as one of my track toys

Great car. I have a highly modified Elise and it's insane too...not quite 460HP, but at one time it was pushing 330 rwhp. Still freaking fun, and I cannot believe it's mine.

The Exige has always been abit too extreme for me but the Evora Oh man.
Lotus just does the raw experience like no one else. The experience is as close to *pure* as a driving experience can get.
If you want a bare bones experience, look no further guys, this is pretty much as good as it gets. 😌
Let's hope the Geely capital influx doesn't put them down the path of overweight EVs and detached luxury cars...

Pure mechanical AND genuine Joy WITH nothing artificial ! That’s what makes it HELL OF A CAR !! Guys in a few years we all gonna crave it n won’t find it anymore 😭😭 that’s my sadness about dull cars of future
It took me a few months before my legs didn't shake when I get into my dad's Exige S1, even though it only has 177HP for ~780kg. These cars are insane, they might feel analog and bestial but the handling is very sane and well balanced, the steering is very rough but it feels like it's reading your mind.
Yes, nothing steers like a lotus. You can feel if you run over a stimorol or a sportslife. You feel every wheel. No other car gives you that
I own one of these cars and it's a testament to how great they are that Max can have driven all the cars down here that he has and is still so excited by it. Go Lotus!
Always been a lotus fan, their spirit of creating purity and simplicity for racing. They understand how to build a racing car that feels as visceral as possible.

I drove an older Exige on a track day recently alongside a GTR Nismo and Mustang GT 5.0 and the Exige was way more involving and fun, good to see the newer cars still have that..

@@gdfggggg It's not, I can tell. Porsche have so much tech Lotus just can't afford developing. As said above, this very car is on par with a 991.2 GT3, but you don't stand a change versus a 991.2 GT-3RS. Like it or not, but Porsche know damn well how to max out their freaking rear engine! :) PS.: It's nevertheless amazing what the Lotus can do, I love it to bits. It's a chassis from 1996 with completely analogue technology and it's still that rapid.

In an age where 'standard' high performance road cars are becoming more and more wonderfully engineered to be as easy to drive as possible (a good thing to be sure), something this raw brought back great memories as I got to drive some fun things in my youth 30 years ago.
Perhaps the most obvious comparison is the fantastically raw 2.7 Carrera with mechanical fuel injection with a redline starting at 7,200rpm. Of course it only made 210HP on 1,075kg but 45 years ago (yikes!) that was a lot.
I got to drive it in the 80s when I was in my late teens, a very close friend's father had it and would let me drive it (such a wonderful man he was). He also had a Porsche 911 3.3 Turbo (4 speed manual), so I was lucky enough to get to drive that somewhat notorious/legendary car many times before reaching 20 years of age.
I also got to drive some versions of the very famous Australian Ford Falcon GTs, manual transmission monsters with 5.8L V8s and no power steering. Those, too, were vast fun, although entirely different from the precise and agile Porsches. The XY Falcon GTHO Phase 3 is a world famous and very rare beast, one of them selling for AU$1,000,000 in 2018 (it also had the peculiar distinction of having been owned by Jeff Thomson, a world famous cricketer of the 70s and 80s widely regarded as perhaps the fastest bowler of all time; he is, of course, something of a legendary figure here in Australia along with his bowling partner, the great Dennis K Lillee who held the record for the most wickets taken in test cricket for some years and viewed as one of THE greatest fast bowlers of all time).
As I said, watching you have an absolute ball in this crazy go-cart reminds me of those days, although of course this is far, far quicker. The rawness, however, I expect is similar.

An underated car. Lotus has always been my favourite car manufacturer since the Espirit. All journalist magazines go on about the Cayman. This is the best not a porsche guys, a british beast!!

I have a Komo-Tec Evora 400 with the same 460 kit and a bunch of aero. Not as cool as this but still an absolute blast to hammer on around the hills of western MA.

Have one of the EX460 myself, there car is pure fun - for the ears, and your arms as well, without power steering. Pure, raw, loud and smelly (oh yes, the video does not mention it but you well smell the 98 Octane gasoline and the tires and the breaks after a good ride) driving experience :-).

ive been in the passenger seat of one of these and they are really fast, you honestly can experince a car until you are in it. when the driver did a 3rd gear pull, man you can feel it you are pulled into the seats and you can just hear that supercharger whine behind you it honestly gives you a rush. if i had the money i would buy one of these it doesnt compare to other supercars such a lamborghini or ferrari lotus truly is one of a kind. and i have to say being 6"1' its really hard to get into like i got a cramp in my hip trying to get in it but when your in it you feel at home the race seats really hug you and the alcantara dash and seats that was speced for the exige i was in felt more that luxurious i mean i was only in the passenger seat imagine the driver seat

I owned a car similar to this feeling called an Ariel Atom this is probably right in between an Ariel Atom and a Porsche GT4 much more raw and extreme than a GT4 but not as raw and Extreme as a Ariel Atom love it

Right on my friend. As an owner of a supercharged Elise putting out not near the power of the car you’ve tested I’ve never owned a car that puts a smile on my face and that I look forward to driving more than the Lotus. I’ve owned a ton of vehicles and many of them high end and in fact I sold my Porsche to get this car. Sure, almost everything is more practical, but if you are looking for a super raw driving experience that will having you grinning from ear to ear without all the bullshit doo-dads that modern day performance vehicles offer, this is your ride. Want to be pampered? Look elsewhere.
