That was just awesome ! I am amazed at the views but even more I am amazed at such perseverance you show,,,, God bless you and thank you for letting us go with you and I hope one day I can do just a couple days on the PCT. 🙏🏼☀️
Thank you very much.
What a wonderful journey!
It’s been wonderful watching along. Thank you, Sir!
You’re welcome.
Rev, thanks for sharing this. This is an area I haven't been through. Beautiful!!
You’re welcome. It’s a beautiful area.
You should do books on tape Rev. Get that audible chocolate out to the masses. Your voice soothes me.
😂😂😂 Thank you Bill.
Which do you enjoy the most? Doing long trails for months or shorter section and day hikes?
I enjoy the challenge of long distance hikes more.
Great job on this video and the whole series. I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed hiking out there with you on this trip and I’d have to rate it a 10 on the fun meter! Where we hiking next?
Thanks. I was going to give it an 11 on the fun meter.
I've just started out my hiking adventures at 60. Vloging of course. Having problems with video stabilisation and wind. I bought a SmartMike+ but the video is still jumpy. Wondering how you achieve more stable filming Rev? Is it just practice or do you have a gimbal? Really enjoying this section. It's nice to see it without the normal snow we always see on the PCT. Absolutely beautiful. If you can watch a vlog of mine and maybe subscribe and give me a tip or two or any pearls of wisdom. I would appreciate your keen eye and advice. Really enjoyed this vlog. Irregardless of anything, great vlog. Hope recovery is going well. How long do you think it will be before you are able/fit to hike again?
Hey Chris. Thanks. I am doing local hikes now trying to build up my stamina and endurance. No problems. The doctor said I would not feel any different. The stent just relieved the pressure on the aneurysm. (And relieved my anxiety).
I use an iPhone 12 Pro to record all my videos. No gimbal. It has EXCELLENT stabilization. Plus, I don’t record commentary when it’s windy. I wait until I’m in a covert.
Yes, that’s why I waited until the snow melted in order to hike and record the Sierra section. I got tired of looking at videos of the Sierra all covered in snow.
I will definitely subscribe to your channel (just subscribed) and check out your videos. Thanks again.
Hope you are recovering well Rev!!! Prayers are with you. When was this hike and what time of year? Im currently "training" for a go at the PCT in March 2023, definitely motivated by you and your videos.
I started this section hike on July 12 from Bishop Pass Trailhead. I got off trail on August 1 at Sonora Pass. Good luck on your 2023 PCT Hike. Hopefully you got to look at my PCT Thruhike from 2020. I’ll leave a link if you haven’t. Perhaps they’ll help you as you prepare.

I see you’re in training for the PCP,,,, , very interesting. Good luck to you. I’m in training , at 62, for future hikes , as well. I hope this comes to pass for me. But good luck
Greetings from Japan, Rev! As usual, such a wonderful video. My biggest impression from your video journals is how you start many of your days, and I've started incorporating it into my morning routine: "This is the day that the LORD hath made; let us rejoice and be glad in it!"
It's a great way to start the day! Thank you for bringing us along!
You are so right Richard. Can’t think of a better way to start the day.
Spent many summers camping, fishing, and hiking at and around Kennedy Meadows North when I was a kid. Such a beautiful place! Thank you for sharing!
You’re welcome Karen.
Lol…I stayed in the exact same cabin last year. They gave me a deal because they weren’t booked up. I ended up taking shuttle back up to Sonora Pass the next morning, and hitched into Bridgeport for Wi-Fi and get videos out. Roll Tide 55-0.
I got a ride to 395 and started hitching into town. After 15 minutes I got a ride into Bridgeport in a Sheriff’s car! I sure wished we could have met on trail. Roll Tide…keep it rolling! 🐘
What a BEAUTIFUL stretch of America and a great video. I’ve been watching a lot of videos this summer, from hikers all across America, some hiking the full AT, CDT & PCT but others hiking smaller 250 mile trails and I was wondering, for these smaller trails, how do most people park at the trail head, hike 250 or so miles then get back to their car? Hitch hiking is one way and I guess getting lucky to find a trail angel is another or possibility paying for a shuttle service. Can anyone chime in and let me know how y’all get from point A to B to drop off or pick up your car? Thanks Rev for the great videos and I wish you the best of recovery.
Thank you Lennen. Personally, my wife takes me to the trailhead and picks me up at the end. (I know, she’s a saint). On my Thruhike of the PCT in 2020, she took me to the Southern Terminus in Campo and dropped me off (we only lived two hours from the terminus at the time). Then, at the end, I got a ride to Seattle, flew to San Francisco where she picked me up.
Beautiful country! Thanks for sharing this amazing journey!
You’re welcome Ruth.
Excellent! Beautiful scenery! Thank you for sharing the journey!
You’re welcome Esther.
Thank you soooo much for sharing so many details of this leg. I live in Sonora, aka near Sonora pass and that area has been my hiking/camping playground for decades. Fast forward, I didn’t start backpacking until my mid-fifties and now am approaching 60. I’ve done many trips solo in the emigrant wilderness and have done many teeny trips on the PCT. My son who lives in Oregon goes with we often, so I’ve backpacked as much in Oregon as I have in the Sierra. 2 weeks ago I completed the Timberline Trail, adding 9 miles to the 42 because I didn’t understand the diversion from the old trail to the PCT route, but ok. It was difficult, but I did it. I now want to tackle this section and my end game is to do the John Muir and then the PCT. I had no idea there were so many passes to climb. I do know about the Sierra trails and I also know that Yosemite miles are not like any other miles. You have truly provided me inspiration to keep moving forward and achieving my goals. I have a way to go. So far, a 12 mile day in the Sierra is about my limit.
12 miles a day in the sierra is a very good day. that section of the PCT was very tough for me. I just became frustrated because I couldn’t get the miles in that I normally would on a flatter trail.
Dr. Callahan: If get this message and find yourself anywhere near the Coachella Valley, please call Mitch at Foster-Gardner in Coachella. I’m 63 and hope to do what you are doing in retirement. I’m hoping to do the trans-Catalina trail this fall. I couldn’t message you on Facebook or Twitter as I gave them both up because of there free speech oppression.
When I get down there I will try contacting you.
Prayers for a quick recovery Rev. so enjoy watching your videos, always inspiring 👍🏻
Thank you Michael. I’m glad you’re enjoying them.
Rev it’s been a pleasure watching your journey, God is definitely a master artist in all he does! Blessed to be called his! Enjoyed your ministry! 2024 is my yr and I pray I am able to run into you and your trail family God Bless !
Thank you. I look forward to meeting you.
…and then there is the gal at Kennedy Meadows… my son and I came off trail, excited for a KM burger and beer. I said med-well, he said med, server said, “we don’t do that here, we just cook ‘em.” ;)
Yeah. Those “back country resorts” are a little different from normal trail towns.
Image resolution of this video is excellent.
Hoping that the surgery went very well...all the best for you.
Thanks William. Yes. The surgery went well.
Was ‘ Rev pass’ tranquil and close to God and ‘Marmalade pass’ - orange and sticky? Glad you enjoyed all passes. Thanks for the content. I hope to be there too - one day!
You’re welcome. All the passes were tough.
15.34 lbs ? What are you kidding me? That's not even legal in most states!
That’s not including food or water.
Another beautiful video. The best of luck with the surgery! I hope you get to do the Sonora Pass-Echo Lake leg in the future - and that you take us along.
Hey Michael. Thanks. I’m going to do the Sonora Pass to Echo Lake section next year and, yes, record it for my UA-cam Channel.
This seems like the most beautiful section I've seen online. I'm still dreaming 'bout mimicking you.
Yosemite wilderness is a beautiful section of California.
Thanks for the inspirational videos! Hope you doing well.
Thanks Ricky. Yes, I’m doing good. Doing some local hikes to build up my stamina and energy.
Fabulous scenery. All of this in Yosemite NP?
Most of it.
Beautiful scenery! Thank you for sharing.
You’re welcome Ann.
Your voice is so pleasant. You should do voice over, narration, books on tape, etc.
Thank you Jody.
Beautiful stretch of trail! Some day...
Thanks Karen. “Don’t stop believing.”
Great vid. Any permits required?
Thanks, Fred. Yes permit are required to hike in the Sierra and they’re not very easy to get.😁
Hey REV!!! These areas sure do look familiar haha. Thanks for the mention brother. Hope all is well!!
Hey Fortune! That was a great area. Yes, things are going great.
Hey Rev!
I'm just checking in, hope you're doing well.. 😊
Sending prayers and good thoughts your way.
Hey Steph. I’m doing good. I did an 11 mile local hike on Friday. No problemo.
@@TheHikingRev OMW! Well done!!!
Thoughts and blessings for your speedy recovery Rev! You will soon be back out there! Thanks for sharing these inspiring videos.
You’re welcome Ian. I’m hiking on local trails and working out at the gym trying to get my stamina and endurance back.
@@TheHikingRev Fantastic news, I’m starting the Camino Inglese on Sunday, I’ll say a prayer for you.
Been praying for your health.
Thank you Jason.
Your "Zero on the fun meter" comment had me laughing out loud! ... Praying for you and your upcoming surgery.
Hey Aaron! Thanks. I’m glad I made you laugh. My EVAAR (Endovascular Aortic Aneurysm Repair) took place on August 18. I’m doing great now.
@@TheHikingRev I am so glad your surgery went well. Had the privilege of having your son and grandchildren to my home for a short visit. You have every right to be exceptionally proud of them!
Ive got 5 days free at the end of this month. What do you think would be the best bang for my hiking buck in the Sierras? Thanks
I like the hike I did outside of Mammoth Lakes in the Ansel Adam’s Wilderness.

@@TheHikingRev Thanks. Just got the permit. Looks excellent
When you talk about the mileage you've made, is that measured 'on the flat', ie, over a map, or do you take into account the vertical component?
Hey Peter. No, I don’t take into account the vert component on my mileage calculation. That’s why on days with a lot of Elevation Gain I get low miles. I just use the mileage from the mile markers on the PCT. I should take into account the Elevation Gain on my mileage calculations.
Hi Rev. I've always wondered about that. We just did a 'light' hike. Trail map said it was 7.2 km to the lake. We hiked 4 1/2 hours in. That is NOT 7.2 km! On google earth, I did an 8 point curved line from trailhead to lake. THAT measured 7.2 km. What the trail map totally failed to account for was the very twisty, very back-and-forth, very rough terrain. Moving at a usual pace of about 3 km/hr total trip average, the route in was 15 km. Thanks for clarifying what route maps show. Always like your vid's, Rev. Thank you for them.
I love to see what and how you made for meals
My resupply was featured at the end of Episode 3.
Beautiful country
Yes it is.
Very nice. I just finished the north lake to south lake loop. Fantastic views of evolution valley and laconte valley. Miur pass going north was a killer.
I met a lot of hikers doing that loop. Yes, Muir Pass was a killer.
@@TheHikingRev I'd rate it a " Double Brutal."
@@peterbedford2610 😂😂😂
Really fantastic video Rev. Hope you are feeling better.
Thanks Brad. I’m doing good. Just trying to rebuild my stamina and energy.
Your videos continue to be breathtakingly beautiful but relaxing. Continue to recover from your surgery and get back to hiking.
Thanks Mark. I’m out doing some local trails. I just got to get my strength and stamina back.
You are a WONDERFUL inspiration Rev!!
Thank you very much.
Loved watching this- gorgeous scenery, wildlife and fun to see you with Marmalade and the other thru hiker (Adventure). I’d give anything to be out backpacking like you are / were. Was hoping you’d film your wife picking you up at the end but guess not.
Thanks Rebecca. When she got to Bridgeport to pick me up, it was a downpour. No time to film.
Such beautiful country! Good luck with the surgery and thanks for sharing,
Thanks Robert. The surgery took place on August 18 and went well.
Nice video, Rev 👍 I really like your pans, very smooth. You did all these miles for days before your surgery, I can only imagine how well you'll need hiking this next spring after a complete recovery and training period-there'll be no holding you back!
Yes. I’m looking forward to it.
Well Rev a tip of the hat to the Mrs. Rev. She just hops over the hill to pick you up then the drive back home. She is most definitely is a Saint. Then Saint Mrs. Rev has the stress of her spouse undergoing medical procedures. This winter you need to fly to Maui where it will be a ten on the fun meter.
Thanks. Mrs. Rev says, “Amen” to the trip to Maui. BTW…she is a saint to put up with me. 😁
Always enjoy these videos. I hope you are doing well with your health issues. God bless.
Thanks Joe.
How does one stay on track with these thousand mile hikes, GPS? Good videos Rev!
Hey Dennis. Thanks. I use the GPS mobile app, FarOut for navigation and trail info.
Excellent section hike! Thanks for taking us along! Even with a little rain, I kept dry!
Hey Larry! As long as I can put one foot in front of the other, you can come along with me any time. BTW…I missed being at PCT Days.
@@TheHikingRev it was nice! Four times for me. I even met five people I had hiked with in “19”.
Thanks so much, for letting us all follow yet another beautiful hike 🤗
As long as I can put one foot in front of the other, you can follow.
@@TheHikingRev 💕❤️💕
I just wanted you to know that one of your videos was a blessing to me. I had been struggling with reading my Bible and praying and I had prayed about it. The next day I came upon your Benefits of Hiking video and the last part about getting closer to God hit me. So now I listen to my Bible and pray when I hike and also on my way home form work. It's been great so far. Thank you.
Brandy…you made my day! I’m so glad you enjoyed one of my videos and I’m glad it made a difference in your life. Thank you.
