This was a thoroughly enjoyable video. I appreciated your joyful countenance throughout. I hiked the JMT SB from Happy Isles in 2012 with my 11 and 14 yr old sons. Even though I plan to do it again, it was truly a “once in a lifetime” experience, as they will never be that age again. But the JMT is arguably the most beautiful trail in the world.
What a great experience to enjoy that with your sons! I agree that it must be one of the most beautiful trails in the world, and I hope one day to finish it! Thank you for your kind words and thank you for watching!!
Thanks for watching! Yeah, I am very fortunate to have such supportive family to do these things, and never want to lose sight of that! Very blessed! Thanks again! Happy trails!
Great video! Thanks for sharing your trip and heart. I'm binging JMT videos as a part of my prep to hike in 2024. This is the second video I've seen that had to cut it short due to the hurricane. Such a punch to the gut to have gone so far and overcome so much to have weather be what brings it to an end. I hope you're back out there with your brother next year!
Thanks for watching! I really hope you have a fantastic and safe trip. Relish every second. It’s an incredible place and I think you’ll have an awesome time! Thanks again for watching! (Btw, I just subscribed to your channel, hopefully get to see some of your trip!) All the best!
Hey Glenn!! Thanks for watching! If you ever get the opportunity, by all means, go for it!! An absolutely unforgettable place to enjoy! Thanks again! Happy trails!!
Enjoyed this video with every step you made. I get the same feeling every time I visit the Sierras the Mt just over whelm me. If you start back at Florence lake my opion the best is waiting for you.
Thanks for watching! I never knew what I was missing until I made it out there. Cannot wait to finish as I’ve heard exactly what you said, the best is yet to come. Thanks again!!
Well your response had me thinking you weren't from California I tried looking you up to see where your from and noticed a pic of you sitting on MaCafe knob small world
@@markhylton4408 So… I’m actually from Michigan. Family in Virginia which helped make that picture happen. Definitely out of my element in the mountains, but, I love them so much now! (And I mean “real” mountains, not our wimpy east coast mountains!! lol!)
Super trek even though you guys didn't get to complete it. Hope you get to finish with your brother next season. Hurricane Hilary did wind up doing substantial damage in the Sierra, so it's good you had the sense to turn around when you did. I'm curious about the night you camped at Thousand Island Lake during the hail and wind storm and you said everything got very wet. Does that mean you had water blow into your tent and soak your down sleeping bag? Looks like you were using a Zpacks Altaplex, is that correct?
Thanks for watching! And thanks for the affirmation that it was a good decision (though super difficult!). So, the tent I used (Lanshan Pro 1P, decent budget trekking pole tent, I just can’t pull the trigger on the expensive ones just yet!) was great. The issue was where we were set up, the massive amount of rain and hail in such a short time created these small rivers through our site. Thankfully, I wasn’t fully set up, so my down quilt was still in the nylofume bag, as well as my puffy. Otherwise, everything was just super wet. Made for some good memories! lol! Thanks for watching!
Sorry you had to cut your JMT adventure short…. But you’re right your safety is #1 priority ….. Man, you and snackbox were doing some biiigg miles! I’d have been been trailing behind in your dust 😅 You just run out out superlatives for the views don’t ya!?!? … just amazing… we got some crazy beautiful places just 30mins from our house in Berthoud CO…. the JMT will still be there for you guys next year 👍👍 ATB Dave Mc
Thanks for watching, Dave! An adventure of a lifetime, and you’re right, it will be there next year, or the year, after or whenever! The more I see the Colorado, the more I think I need to get out there!! Thanks for watching, always appreciate your support! Cheers!!
Hey Hashtag!! So, it worked out pretty well. Took some time getting adjusted, especially using a frameless pack, so I had to be thoughtful in how I packed the bag. Also added a bit more weight, but not the end of the world. That said, it makes a great seat and it’s nice not having to hang a bag! Thanks for watching!! Cheers!
Hey Jerry! Thanks for watching! The trail is pretty easy to follow, for the most part. I used the Farout app to help me navigate as it gives a lot of really good info, but I also brought a paper map as well. Personally, I would recommend "something" to help with navigation whether it's a GPS unit, an app (that will work offline) and a map or some combination. Happy trails!
Thanks for watching... So, headed southbound, we stopped short to take the re-route, following Piute Pass, I never saw the flow first hand. We started back to the JMT via Bishop Pass. I did talk to a couple of folks after we got off trail, and they had simply crossed the mangled bridge with no issue, but the videos they showed me had a pretty fast moving water. As I'm sure you already know, crossing the bridge is no longer an option.
Wow! What an incredible experience. Thank you for taking us along.
@@bser2293 Thanks for watching! It was truly incredible! I hope to return one day! Thanks, again!!

Awesome trail, this was presented so enjoyable. Energy and overall atmosphere are just fantastic!
Thanks for watching!! Really appreciate your kind words! This place is beyond description! If you ever get the chance to do it, do it!! Cheers!
What stunning views. Thank you for taking the time to document your hike!
Thanks for watching! Stunning views is spot on! Thanks again!!
That looked HARD! It was breathtaking though.
Oh it was hard!! Lol! And “breathtaking” is the perfect word to describe it! Thank you for watching!!
Really appreciated hearing how you were so thankful to those you left behind while you were out there. It's an encouragement and good reminder to me.

Strong hiking 👍 On the positive side, next year you can see Evolution!
Thanks for watching!! I honestly cannot wait to go back! And you’re right, seeing Evolution, I definitely need to get there!! Cheers!!
@@tridudyonthetrail I came DOWN Piute creek last week. That’s a rough section in the canyon. Props for making it to the pass from where you started

I'd be interested in a rundown of the gear you took on this trek.
Thanks for watching! I hadn’t considered it, to be honest. But, maybe I will. Thanks again for watching!

Stunningly beautiful. Y’all covered some ground. How’d that bear can do you? I’m packing one for the first time in Colorado next month.

Im curious as to what day in August you hit the SFSJ bridge. How was the flow then? Did you not see a possible crossing?
Thanks for watching... So, headed southbound, we stopped short to take the re-route, following Piute Pass, I never saw the flow first hand. We started back to the JMT via Bishop Pass. How did you carry enough food for the whole 10 days?
Thanks for watching! So, we had a resupply after a handful of days so we didn't have to carry the entire trip's food from the start. Thanks, again!
What airports were those?
You must be taking about Bishop, CA. It was just a tiny little airport.
Like a crackhead looking for a trail to smoke
😆😆 Never thought of it that way! lol! Thanks for watching!
Hurricane? There ain't no damn hurricanes in yosemite.😂
lol! “Hurricane Hillary”. That was the last thing I thought that would end our trip! 🤦♂️
