FG & Allan Holdsworth on the same stage one night in Washington DC in 1986!!! Allan’s band was the back up to Chick Corea’s Elektric Band and I think, Franks first year on tour playing with Chick. Next time I saw Frank was in 2005 with Steve Smith’s “ Vital Information “ band on a very cold, snowy December evening in St. Michael’s Maryland ( Blue Crab Headquarters). During a mid- show break, I approached Frank as he was making equipment settings on stage. He was warm, receptive and down to earth nice guy. Intuitively, Frank sensed I was going through a tough time in life, not knowing details, but just gave me word of encouragement and cheer that surprised and impressed me a great deal.
Ive seen Petrucci, Romeo, Broderick, Loureiro, Loomis...but the scariest guy Ive ever seen live is this guy... after the concert I went backstage with a friend of mine and I just couldnt talk to him... I had to tell my friend to ask him to please sign my copy of one of his instructional vhs tapes I had from years ago ... totally starstruck
That is one cool list of guitarists you saw live. I have been watching and enjoying Kiko’s livestreams a lot lately. At least one positive thing with all these lockdowns.
I just could not be that guy either. I froze where i stood and everyone else had their records and tshirts signed, having moronic questions to him and just blabbering about 🤢 I couldn't bear myself to try to talk to him since words lack mening. I don't regret it. It's better this way 😂 I doubt that i would make his day anyway 😁
@@Felix-78 I meet Kiko a couple of years back in a laney clinic in my country, jammed with him and he totally kicked my ass..but the best part was hanging out with him backstage, laughing with the dude etc, he is one of my heroes, He was really really cool and fun to be around, and of course a migthy player. But Gambale was something else, I felt like I wasnt worthy of even being in the same room with him…the truly greats have an aura about them..they’re not just playing notes…with them is more transcendental
@@unforgettablejazzfusion5546 Oh I agree 100%. I have had the pleasure of seeing him live with The Chick Corea Electrick Band a few times. Post show he is a true gentleman. My all time favorite guitarist. I treasure my complete collection of signed FG albums and DVD's
Frank’s tone is one of the sweetest. Love those fluid runs and his phrasing and the little hints of blues in his playing. Not to mention his trademark sweep technique
Ladies and gentlemen, you are watching a master at work here. Not only is the technique clean and flawless, the lines (fast and slow) are melodic and tasteful. The fast-sweeping passages can only be described as blistering.
Well said...absolutely a master...been playing 40 years and never have used that term before...timing is impeccable with those phrases too...later bro...
I met Frank Gambale at a guitar clinic at Alta Loma Music in 1988. I was brave enough to ask him a question during the clinic. I asked him what he thought of Allan Holdsworth. He said something like: "I think he's the best. I think he's a genius. I think that 10 years from now we will all say 'Oh, that's what he's doing.'" First off, what an awesome compliment for Allan Holdsworth. Secondly, how come 34 years has gone by and we still don't know what Allan Holdsworth was doing. Also Frank played so awesomely at the clinic that everyone was literally laughing. Except maybe me. I was studying his every move. Lol. Love you Frank. 🤘
Frank's playing to a backing track at a gear show for industry folks in an unforgiving venue, and my heart is pumping like I've been running for an hour! Very exciting player for me.
FG is a stylish guy. Apart from his note choices he is playing a yellow and black guitar wearing a yellow and black shirt. Even the clip-on tuner on his guitar's headstock is yellow and black!
i would add dave fuzinsky as third. assuming we need not to remember john mclaughlin jeff beck bill frisell larry coryell jim hall scott henderson and ry cooder or jimmy page and why not steve lukather too
Maybe underrated by the Malmsteen fanboys, but definitely not for the people in the ¨know¨. The greatest musician of our era, Chick Corea, chose him for a reason. He definitly is my GOAT if I had to choose just one guy.
Frank is not only a killer musician, but also a really nice guy. Had the honor of interviewing him for a podcast and I was impressed at his openness to share valuable information.
When you’re as good as Frank it must be effortless - just look at how much he’s enjoying it! I’d by in tears trying to play through just the first few bars!
nobody can fast pick and sweep as clean and has as nice accent as Frank. And love his songs, his melodies are so beautiful. (well max ostro can but frank's songs and melodies are way way up there)
man that was some top hat shit!!!!!!! so greatful hes still with us!!! lane, holdsworth, gambale these guys were holographic characters in the third dimension!!!!!!!!!
What I love about this guy is he just gets progressively more crazy throughout some of his songs. He'll start all chill with a riff and some intermediate solo stuff over it then by the end you're like "oh this guy is one of the best shredders of all time". And it's such a slow progression that you barely notice it. Go from the first 30 seconds of the solo to the last 30 seconds and you'll see what I mean
I love his playing. I watch a ton of his videos. Theres a channel on YT that breaks all his stuff down on sheet / tab and plays to it. This dude has CRAZY licks. So glad I found frank gambale.
Before hybrid picking, Polyphia, Matteo Mancuso, etc came along, Frank was cranking out the cleanest and sickest runs south of Shawn Lane. The most efficient hands in rock guitar, he just does it right in front of you at a NAAM show, with ease.
dammit Frank, do you have to absolutely blow the world up every time you play a guitar?? Ill be crawling around looking for my face for a week!! sheeeeeesh man...
It's so common now adays to see shredding and all crazy stuff on internet but often what we forget guy like frank and Greg had been doing these things for past 30 years and we sometimes underestimate to see these legend at work precise if not even better now ..
The timing on this is better than a 10k swiss watch

Wish I had been there when Frank and Allan shared the stage.. that's insane !!!
I saw that tour up in Buffalo in either '86 or '87, awesome!

Search for Matteo Mancuso ;)
That is one cool list of guitarists you saw live. I have been watching and enjoying Kiko’s livestreams a lot lately. At least one positive thing with all these lockdowns.
Those vhs tapes are gold.

Frank is a stone cold killer! The smiling shredder!
Frank is THE MASTER. Also one of the greatest jazz-fusion composers of the 20th century, hands down.

Far more than. ..

The song is called 6.8 Shaker off his 'Passages' album.
Frank should have the highest self-esteem being aware that nobody can beat him in his own game.
He can surely play wit the best of em. Only guitarist I think could challenge him is Buckethead
Rick Beato brought me here

Unfortunately, Allan Holdsworth passed away in 2017. R.I.P., Mr. Holdsworth.

Late reply, but I felt exactly the same way wacthing this. My palms are sweating, haha.
Even if you don’t like his music, he’s still fun to watch because you can tell he’s enjoying what he’s doing.
@ 4:09 Monster lick. Those 3 note up sweeps. Frank rules!
FG is a stylish guy. Apart from his note choices he is playing a yellow and black guitar wearing a yellow and black shirt. Even the clip-on tuner on his guitar's headstock is yellow and black!
Him and greg howe are unbelivably unknown and underrated.
Not so underrated, in the jazz-rock guitarists community they are gods.

Wow just discovered this guy and im in awe. He has mastered many different styles. He can play with the best of em
Impossível não sorrir qdo Gambale improvisa.
A cara entortando vale?😂😂
most grande !!!!!
His proficiency is something to marvel. Love his work with Chick.
That guitar reminds me of the Ibanez days, Still Frank can turn anything he touches to gold.
As an Aussie I'm so proud of FG... one of our best exports.
Yup and Tommy Emmanuel!
Yup and Brett Garsed
Yup And Olivia Newton John.
The groove of this tune is awesome!
I watch Frank play, the same way I'd watch Penn and Teller do their thing. It's magic.
nobody can fast pick and sweep as clean and has as nice accent as Frank. And love his songs, his melodies are so beautiful. (well max ostro can but frank's songs and melodies are way way up there)
i just love how you can watch the audio guys mind being blown on this one haha, gamble is top dog around the globe!
The best fusion player ever! Awesome
Him and holdsworth to me.
ALWAYS "NEXT LEVEL" talent.
And he's probably "just having a little fun"...
Gambale is a monster, I regret not looking into him earlier.
Scary guitar playing. I absolutely adore FG.
man that was some top hat shit!!!!!!! so greatful hes still with us!!! lane, holdsworth, gambale these guys were holographic characters in the third dimension!!!!!!!!!
What scares me the most about frank is that he can play exactly everything he just played with an acoustic guitar
No one can do that !😮
What I love about this guy is he just gets progressively more crazy throughout some of his songs. When I grow up, I want to be like Frank Gambale (I’m in my 40 😅). What a total beast of a player! Just incredible!
Tone, when I grow up I too wanna be like Frank. I'm in my 73's. Regards, Chick

Yikes. I never heard of Frank until Chick introduced him in the mid-80's with the electric band. Good gawd what a talent.
One of the very best at that style!!
This shouldn't surprise anyone. FG has been at the top of the tree for 4 decades.
Legend! Innovator at its best. Love you Frank
I think this is Jesse Michel recording in the back. A really incredible sweeper and a great metal guitarist
Yeah
Usually I think this shredding style is less like music and more like juggling. Clever but with no emotional impact. But this guy has it all.
Frank always sending me back to the woodshed! Awesome!!!
Before hybrid picking, Polyphia, Matteo Mancuso, etc came along, Frank was cranking out the cleanest and sickest runs south of Shawn Lane. The most efficient hands in rock guitar, he just does it right in front of you at a NAAM show, with ease.
Virtuosismo com melodia, sentimento e musicalidade, não apenas esmerilhação
I wish this was on Spotify with a high quality record 😭😭😭
It is. Track: 6.8 Shaker Album: Passages
@@BenMcrea61 I ❤️ you! I thought it was just a demo base, should have digged deeper
Frank is and has always been a BAD ASS GUITAR PLAYER. Yea,,,,
Not sure I'm sold on the guitar sound, but the playing is fantastic.
Gosto mt dessa música... Gambale é demais
Um dos maiores mestres de todos os tempos!! 😍😍😍😍😍🤩🤩
Exatamente!
Unbelievable. Effortless playing. A real gifted genius.
he played better than album version
dammit Frank, do you have to absolutely blow the world up every time you play a guitar?? Ill be crawling around looking for my face for a week!! sheeeeeesh man...
