Mammals under attack of blood-sucking insects

In Naliboki forest most horrible outbreak of blood-sucking insects (botflies, midge, mosquitoes) usually happens at the end of June and continues about a month. This harsh time, mammals, especially wild ungulates are bothered by bloodsuckers a lot. Feeling vulnerable they try to persist by hiding in tree falls and dense vegetation or, quite opposite, spots with open ground or trampled grass. Temporarily they can escape from the insects in mud grooming spots or by swimming in water. They behave nervous and run often followed by clouds blood-sucking insects.
