Narrow escape: Wolf vandalizes badger sett with badger cubs inside

- In the video there is a burrow once excavated by wolves, then occupied and improved by badgers. This year mother badger has given birth to two cubs. In the footage you see the cubs emerging from the sett for the first time. A wolf fails to get the badger cubs as the badgers enlarged the burrow with extra passages. Afterwards, mother badger carried her cubs one by one safely to another sett, while her mate continued to stay in the burrow.

Great video...one thing I noticed was when the wolf was digging out the den you could hear all the birds in the forest suddenly coming to life as if to warn the possible occupants inside. very fascinating behavior by both animals.
So cool to see the badgers aware of the dangers and move their cubs, seeing the wolves mark the den i figured they would be back. Great videos!
Badgers in the U.K. have multiple setts which they switch between at various times. Setts always have more than one entrance/ exit, so when a predator gets in, the badgers can exit if need be.
mama badger smarter than the big bad wolf - too funny
Mother* I'm from the south and I know better
Fantastic footage.
BAAAADGGGERS! they are my fav.
The wolf mafia = If you can't get them, piss on their house, so they will know we're always near.
Very cool... camera placement is perfect. Clear line of vision. Thanks. Did you record any food being eaten by badger? Curious what they are eating...
here is a book with our research results on badger and raccoon dog population ecology (free to download) www.researchgate.net/publication/318093116_Badger_Meles_meles_and_Raccoon_dog_Nyctereutes_procyonoides_in_Belarus_Population_studies_with_implication_for_the_decline_in_badgers
there is a badger diet considered in details
I checked the book, and apparently the badgers mostly eat 4 items: invertebrate including earthworms, small verterbrate prey, carrion/carcasses (mostly in winter) and vegetation.
I don't understand how the cubs managed to evade the teeth of the first wolf who got deep into the burrow.
badger setts have deep tunnels
Thank you!
As always, great documentary. Your way of working is fascinating, other zoologists studying carnivores should complete their papers with this kind of image more often, that would be good. Have you ever been able to record instances of "reversed" intraguild predation of Pine marten killing Red fox cubs?
Thanks for the kind words! As to your question - not yet
Them volfes were lucky the badger parents didn't come out!
Talk about digging for trouble!
Aww , what a sweet Disney movie ❤
Where does that wolf think he is, San Francisco?

💙🌻😍🌼🌸🌷
Badgers are so pretty
سبحان الله، خلق فهدى.
Wow that's a big female 😮
Should go to jail as a hate crime...sad
Why didn't wolves enter?
Even if the wolf did enter farther in the den, it would be at a disadvantage because it would not be able to move properly facing the badger. The badger would most definitely tear up that wolf muzzle to shreds.
Vcs são privilegiados por ter está oportunidade de filmar e a linda criação de Deus espero que eles sobreviva sobre ataque dos predadores saúde a todos aí família
🐁🐍🐓🐔😁
Are these European ?
Yes
Den, not sett
It's called a sett
The wolf is dumb don't mess with badger.
@@garypollard2929 Diz iz political, yo.

We wuz in dat hood and days surround me ands tooks mah wallet and I hadda walk alls dah way home, and nobody help me tah get there!!!
@Gary Pollard Yes, but mountain lions can dominate lone wolves with ease and kill them in seconds. One on one, nothing beats the big cat.
@Gary Pollard I more often saw wolverines beat wolves than vice versa.
Why does the word "cub" sound gay?
if those badger have 50 % of the their cousiens honey badger strengh these wolfs would stand no chance
