@@dansalvati9557 Thnx, I’ve never heard that recording until just now. It is indeed a very excellent performance, lots of piano fills, even some with a bit of boogie Woogie flavour, and the vocal melody played on piano is pleasing as all heck-a-roo. With all of that said, for me it’s the hanging, mildly sorrowful vocal harmonies and banjo accents with this bluegrass styling that hooks me right into the story.
Such a great song by a songwriting legend, Gordon Lightfoot, Written way back in the 1960s I'm sure there are hundreds of good covers in many styles. I recommend another well done contemporary cover by Foxes and Fossils.
OMG!!! This is the BEST performance of this song l have ever heard, including the many GL ones. You two are insanely good! This thing needs millions more views -holy crap!
This is so good. I just heard Joe Henry and Billy Braggs version. It sent me searching for others. I look forward to hearing more of your music. I plan on sharing this with friends and family. ✌️
@@OrdinaryElephant You are welcome I am so glad I asked Scott Cook for a list of who not to miss hearing on the Folk Alliance! Come to Stoughton Opera House in WI or Cafe Carpe in WI post Covid!
a classic Gord song. Very well done. He would be pleased with your rendition. Glad you re introduced this song. I've been a lightfoot fan since about 1970. From British Columbia, Canada.
I am sitting here watching the Oregon rain with this beautiful version of Gordon’s song playing. I just discovered you and I saw that you have played at the Sisters Folk Festival before. Any plans to come west again, maybe Pickathon? I’m trying to learn banjo- can you tell me what tunig this is in?
@@MarkJohnson-gn3eb Sure thing! I actually have railroad spikes on my fifth string so I don't have to tune up a whole step and knock the whole banjo out of whack. You might look into them if you capo a lot like me :)
Ffsssssssssssss, dang, might be the best version of this Lightfoot tune I’ve ever heard. So much melancholish emotion, love it!
Aww, wow. Thanks so much!
Jerry Lee Lewis/London Sessions is a great rendition!

In basic training our Drill Sergeants would sing some of these lyrics in cadence, probably to enhance our homesickness. It was the 70s & we liked it.
Wow! That would be interesting to hear. Maybe it helped take your mind off the pain, too!
Awesome. Most beautiful.
Thank you!
Not much to say....just stunningly done!

I’m trying to learn banjo- can you tell me what tunig this is in?
Hi Mark. We're working on getting back up there in September! I'm just playing in open G here, capoed on the 2nd fret. Thanks!
@@OrdinaryElephantGreat! I’ll watch for a venue and date. Thanks for the tuning tip.
Capo 2, 5th string tuned up to A, I imagine.

Beautiful! May I ask what key?
Thanks. The key of A major! :)
RIP to who. Did one of them die ? Hope not 🙏
The RIPs were for Gordon Lightfoot. 💜

Listening was pure joy. Watching the woman's snarling facial expressions and singing through her teeth was not fun.
Good, but Peter Paul and Mary version best.
Not even close.
Beautiful!!!
