Great commentary Martin. Aerosmith was my band , along with Sabbath, in the mid to late 70s growing up in East Central Alabama. On the Draw the Line tour, they scheduled a show in Atlanta’s Omni sometime in January of ‘78. Then out of the blue, the show was postponed to May 15 of that year so the band could do their part in the Sgt Pepper movie with Peter Frampton and The Bee Gees. Every year when May 15 rolls around, I think of that night. The date etched in my brain. The band were a HUGE part of my personal 72 Seasons.

Aerosmith is one of my all-time favorite bands and one of rocks legacy groups. Their place in rock lore is firmly cemented in the annals of history. But they are also one of the most frustrating bands for me. They literally have had separate (and unequal) phases and careers. One of sheer brilliance and unparalleled mastery. The other, beyond dreadful, compromised, sold out and for the most part, unlistenable to me.
While the news of them no longer touring has hit some hard, it really isn't impacting me as I have never had any interest in seeing them for multiple reasons.
    1) Not going to sit through those torturous ballads.
    2) When they play older tracks, it is most often a hit that has been played to death and very seldom a deep track.
    3) Once they "replaced" Joey Kramer, game over. There is no Aerosmith without Joey Kramer. Not in my world.
My memories of those early albums will stay with me forever and I can't thank the band enough for that. Regardless of the later material, this is a band that will always have a lasting place in my heart and listening room. Rocks will remain one of my desert albums for all-time.

Get a Grip’s success was so MTV driven, especially in a climate where their style of rock was being pushed off many stations in that era, that I think it lead to a further detachment from their roots and what they did best. Every one of their albums from 1997 onwards can be described as a disappointing. And eventually commercially disastrous.
The past two decades, with the American Idol nonsense, the half baked solo efforts, Perry hanging out with Depp, etc and obvious declines in live performances and topped off with Kramer’s very odd dismissal, this end was overdue.

I saw the opening show in Philly last year. Perry was in fine form, as he'd just come off a tour with the Vampires. Tyler sounded great. Played several deep cuts to my delight. But unfortunately, it wasn't meant to be. Thanks to them for all the great songs.

It’s a shame they couldn’t be more organised with making new music. Would’ve been great to have another Album from them🙏

Aerosmith is my second favorite band (The Beatles) Now I mean specifically the 1970's version. I have seen them 5 times, from 82 with Dufay and Crespo when they were not so good. To the Back in The Saddle tour which at least in Harrisburg Pa was AMAZING! Onto the various tours that followed. I was not old enough to see them in their 70's prime but they played a lot of the great songs that I loved. IMO there is no AEROSMITH without Steven or Joe or Brad Tom or Joey in my opinion. So glad I got to see them

Started seeing them as. Kid in Boston in 76. Then 77 several times. 78 was my favorite! ( Live Bootleg tour ) Then 79, 80, 83. I've seen over a hundred concerts including Queen in their prime, Cheap Trick tons, Jeff Beck, Stones ( Tattoo You ) and Aerosmith was ( hard to type the word WAS! ) the best!!!!

Only saw them once. On the “Rock in a Hard Place “ tour in 1982. No Perry or Whitford but the band was terrific. Crespo and Dufay sounded great. Tyler is a fantastic frontman, one of the all time best.

      @flazjsg 13 днів тому

I second that notion! They were great when I saw them in 1982, despite Tyler being messed up. I went back two years later to see the "original line-up" and it wasn't much different quality-wise or even set-list-wise at all. Joe had a little bit more commanding stage presence than Crespo, but musically they sounded the same (and frankly, the sound sucked for both shows!) Tyler has proven that he could completely change the line-up and they would still sound like Aerosmith! Get Your Wings had two different guitarists - nobody denies the strength of that album or the songs. Steven also wrote many an Aerosmith tune by himself.

I would loved to hear a really suiting goodbye album from Aerosmith.
I mean.. Deep Purple has =1. Uriah Heep has Chaos & Colour. Judas Priest has Invincible Shield. The Rolling Stones has Hackney Diamonds. Solid records and if it is their last. It's a nice way to end it all. Aerosmith? Did Music From Another Dimension twelve years prior? That's a shame. I don't hate that album but a scaled back more rocking album at some point later would been very sweet!
Dream On Aerosmith.. Right In the Nuts!

I'd love for them to get into the studio and crank out an epic farewell album or two ;^). The =1 album is good but, Ian brings it way down for me. Between the lyrics and his performances, I am not blown away by the album. Musically, the album is phenomenal, lyrically it's the usual sexual inuendo from Ian. It's just more unseemly at his age. Ti be fair, I've always been bothered by it to some degree but, the older he gets, the worse it's been.

Far too many of our beloved rock icons totally trash their legacies by continuing on WAY TOO long. I can only hope they stick to this game plan. We don't need to have a Foreigner or Lynyrd Skynyrd or AC/DC version of Aerosmith too! I refuse to shell out big ticket dollars to see remnants of (or complete tribute) bands. There will never be another Get Your Wings or Toys ... or Rocks, so, I'll pass on new product as well and just keep jammin' on the classics!

I don't buy it. Tyler beat the heck out of his voice for decades. He's in his late-70s and blows it out after a few dates. At that age, things aren't healing and you have to wonder why it blew out given how long he had pushed it. It finally gave out on him and there's no going back.

Good riddance! They’re an utter embarrassment at this point! Corporate rock that is made to make money and have radio hits only the hits kinda stopped coming after Just press play. Neither the 04’ blues album nor the 2012 had any hits. They are going out on a low note as they should. I have ZERO respect for Steve Tyler. I can see why he and Joe did not get along very well. I wonder if Joe maybe wanted to do less radio friendly stuff and Steven wanted to do more pop oriented garbage. Maybe now Joe can do his own thing with The Joe Perry Project again.
