She made sure to marry the darkest man she could so her kids wouldn’t be light. The funny thing is from the oldest to youngest they went from very light to very dark it’s pretty funny.

My Dad remembers when Cab Calloway would arrive in Atlanta, Georgia to perform. In those days, Black performers could perform before any audience, but the performances were always segregated. Dad and his friends would head to the train station--when all the big White promoters greeted Cab Calloway, Dad remembered that Cab would yell up to him and all the little Black kids up on the balconies of the train station. Cab Calloway once said, "I showed off because it made my PEOPLE feel so good." I love this man!

This performance brought tears to my eye, I can remember being a little kid growing up in Norfolk and watching the Blues Brothers movie with my friends at my Aunt Rebecca's house and for YEARS loving every note played, every dance move done and the energy that Mr. Calloway and his band had during this song, It was the HIGHLIGHT of the movie for me. And to see this performance of him at 81, not just performing it but LOVING IT, and LIVING IT.... is breathtaking!!!! I thank God daily that he allows me to live in this wonderful world of show business. If I make it to 81 I pray that I will still have the LOVE that Mr. Calloway had for his art and for the people. THAT is true dedication .... It's the legends whom shoulders we stand on that we must remember and pay homage to!!! The things that he and so many other endured so that we may enjoy some of the freedoms that we have today and we must not forget! The civil rights struggle was fought on so many different fronts and I am eternally grateful to those worriers who stood on the battlefield for us!

No matter what era you were born in... No matter the color of your skin... This man was and STILL IS EPIC!!! Here we are in 2018 watching Cab Galloway and passing his awesomeness to the next generation. I see a bit of hate in the comments and it hurts my heart that we have been kicked back to the 20th century with this hateful thinking. May we get past our differences and love the GOODNESS of what ALL of HUMANITY has to offer instead of going at each other's throats like the evil ones enjoys watching us do. May we rise above this and love each other as brothers and sisters as Martin Luther King Jr. had dreamed for all of us. Those folks in the sixties knew about the ones who love to watch us fight against each other and warned us but their words were drowned out by blind hate from both sides. Come together, brothers and sisters so we can show the haters what we can do! We were TAUGHT to hate! Watch babies and kids together and see their wisdom... They don't hate each other. When they see each other, they see another human being that deserves love, compassion, and understanding.... Not an enemy. We keep going at each other like this, humanity as a WHOLE isn't going to survive. STOP THE HATE!

Tammy Ritchie I'm only 16, yet I fully understand where you're coming from and I LOVE cab's music. I feel as if music is no longer for peoples entertainment so much as to get money. Almost every song nowadays is either about sex or trying too hard to appeal to the masses. People like Cab didn't care about things like that, he just wanted to entertain people with his amazing talent. So what I'm saying is, heartwarming comment, Mr. Calloway would be honored.

I'm sorry to say this but until people stop with 1 the over appreciation of some cultures and under appreciation of others. I'm Native American but I look white and I'm sorry but black people get too angry at the past and they get a whole month of appreciation yet we were treated way worse the settlers didn't even think we were worth wasting extra bullets so they caved-in skulls with the butt of their guns. And 2 stop being so easily offended . I am racist but I am to everyone it's not bad if everyone get treated the same way. So I hate everyone equally and I don't care if you make native jokes so why can't we just make fun of problems cause there is humor in tragedy. Besides that people need to stop pushing their veiws onto everyone else I don't care if you fuck guys, girls,or no one it doesn't matter and its not just who you are. So people shouldn't change charaters to fit their hidden agenda. (Fun fact : did you know that the black Green lantern was gay originally in the comics but in the Justice League animated show they made him straight) the Hell's with that huh. It's like the seen from The Simpsons with the gay parade. You know when lisa says we are used to it you guys do this every year. It's like that we are used to it. Hell I don't know if it changed but why do they need to be basically naked you can wear the colors too it's a decorum thing some self respect. then there's the people who get angry for you it like that midget comedian says it like saying your too dumb to know you were insulted. Honestly why should someone feel offended when that's not even their culture or problem. That to me is being an SJW. And their more annoying then ignorance because they only do half the research and bullshit the rest. Hell biden's basically like Hitler he's a self-hating white what was Hitler, a self-hating Jew not much of a difference right. Hell just because a person was white they were refused for getting a covid-19 vaccine. And last but not least 3 stop thinking one is better than the other. Yeah I know girls had it terrible thats why the suffragettes were a thing but the head of the movement didn't need to kill herself by throwing herself army the horse that was an over reaction. And yes they were treated as defective boys. But it's just as bad treating boys like defective girls why can't we be treated equal that's a question that still needs an answer. But yeah stop those 3 Major issues then we'll be moving in the right direction.

This man was a pioneer in crossing over our crazy "jungle music", body movements and essence to the masses. He used his platform to say 'hey it's okay to get down with your bad self' and when your blood is made of tempo and rhythm there's no stopping! Then in the spring of '33 somewheres in Barnwell, SC an extra funky lil baby was born to a desolate sixteen year named Susie. Susie named her new funk chunk James and all the world, it's stages and it's women would never be the same again.

My wife worked in the accounting department of a large talent agency in the early 70s. Cab was a client and would stop in to see his agent. He was one of the very few who ever took time to visit with the staff. He'd actually stop and visit... not just wave and walk. This irked the self-important agents.. but Cab didn't care. The staff all loved him. Oh... and he actually wore his cape when not on stage.
