Such great music! Love the Big Bands! It’s tragic that Glenn Miller didn’t survive WWII!! What could have been…? Again, the Greatest Generation saved the world, and they created some of the greatest music ever! 🎶🎵🫡🇺🇸
The beauty of this clip is without equal today, Glenn his troupe, the Nicholas brothers and knock you to your knees beauty and talent of Dorothy is stunning.. FYI I am NOT black or white and am Gen Z in 2023
Glenn Miller, his pre-war band, Tex Beneke and the Mondernaires, the Nicholas Brothers and Dorothy Dandridge.....and a young Milton Berle as well!! Swing music does not get better than this.
I wasn't born until 1953 but the big band era is one of my all-time favorites I have no clue why but it just makes me smile and dance and it makes the hair on my arm stand up because this is the best music of all time !!!!
I had a machine operator job in the mid eighties, on the grave-yard shift. Once the machines were humming along, to ease the boredom, I started whistling Chattanooga Choo-choo, which really resonated in the massive warehouse. This was a song of my parents era, so my work-mates were astonished, but
In 1941, everyone knew what was coming, and the Big Bands gave us all something joyous to remember fondly through the four dark years ahead. The talent and vitality of this number, captured on film, still resonates over 80 years later.
You can never have enough of the Nicholas Brothers, and Dorothy Dandridge adds sweet to the sweet and hot! After all these years, knowing what lay ahead for Glen Miller still puts a lump in my throat and another one in my heart.
SHOW ... THAT'S JUST SHOW .... FANTASTIC .... Nicholas Brothers + Dorothy and Mr Glenn Miller thank you very much for this moment, and I know for sure what that's really means because I did live in Chattanooga from 1971 to 1974 and my hearth still in this town ....
Real instruments and brilliant production. 2023 and love this in NE Scotland. Do love Lil Marlene too. Obviously never heard at the time. So everlasting music I think.
Such joyful music. Such joyful camaraderie amongst all the players of this day and time. One's heart could only break and cry to what the world's become and turned into after all these lives lost and sacrifices fought.
You have a slightly unrealistic view of what the world was like at this time. Within four years of this movie millions of men, women, and children would be murdered across Europe and Asia. Millions more would die in combat. In America, those African-American performers wouldn't be allowed travel in the same rail cars, eat in the same restaurants, or stay in the same hotels with the rest of the band. And after fighting to defend democracy and freedom, they'd come back to a country that viewed them as second class citizens.
Peter Farrar:- The musical genius of the incomparable Glen Miller & his superb orchestra, with the added talents of 18 years old Dorothy Dandridge & the fabulous Nicholas Brothers, raised this musical travaganza to supreme heights. Golden words of appreciation to real talents, by Peter E. Farrar. 8:01
This generation lost the faith, and now they stand in the dark. Time to bring back the light in your life. There's one thing that brings back things to normal and that's TEAM SPIRIT. We needed that to go across WWII, everyone was doing their best to ensure that we'd pull up victorious in every sense of the word.
I absolutely love the music of Glenn Miller and to have the Nicholas Brothers in this video is such a treat. The orchestra is superb and so are all who played a part in it. Absolutely fabulous music!
I’m a classic country music person, although I was raised on this music, I consider myself not as great a musician compared to these individuals. Absolutely stellar performance(s). 🎶
I Disagree Tim. The movie is evidence of a very real era when it was cool to be as classy as your parents instead of needing to be increasingly repulsive.
KEN POTTER... best comment ever!!~ "Increasingly repulsive" !! HA, HA HA !! My husband's uncle wrote that music... he was of America's greatest composers: HARRY WARREN... look him up!
What more could you need...Glenn and his music, fabulous Nicholas Brothers dancing and the truly beautiful Dorothy Dandridge singing ................sad that only the Nicholas Brothers lived to their old ages
Roy Rogers just celebrated his birthday and his lovely wife, Dale Evans, gave him a beautiful pair of cowboy boots. The next day Roy went riding out on the range with those beautiful boots on his feet. On the trail, he came across a mountain lion and got into a real tussle with it. Roy came away with only a few scrapes, but the big cat did a bit of a number in his boots. Roy rode home and had to tell Dale of his run-in with the mountain lion and the resulting torn up shoes. Being the loving and considerate wife, she of course put him at ease, telling him that the most important thing is he came home not too badly hurt. A few days later, the two of them went riding together. Off in the distance, Dale spotted a big cat, motioned to Roy and asked, "Pardon me, Roy... Is that the cat who chewed your new shoes?"
Loved this clip! Thank you for sharing❤ the music and talent back then was amaxing! Always love to see the Nicholas Brothers dance they were fantastic. Dorthey was a amazing talent as well as the Glen Miller singers. Just fantastic
I'm of the age that may be among the last to appreciate this music. Do you hear it playing anywhere. They don't even use big band music in the high school bands, they're playing modern tunes almost like elevator band music. Thus the young forgets the old.
Thank goodness for mother's of CLASS !!! Introduced to the big bands and the Glenn Miller story at age 6, gosh I miss my mom so very much. And boy could she dance ❤🎼❤
At 2.28 into this you see Tex This is Tex Beneke Although I was born in 1965 I just love The Glen Miller Band My late parents played a lot of the songs when I was young Only the other day on TV in England the Glen Miller Story was aired 🇬🇧🏴🇬🇧🇬🇧❤️❤️❤️👍 👍 😍😙
This is the craziest thing ever! I love it! Both parts were amazing but the first was definitely better imo. That was until the end. Holy guacamole. Still the singing on the first part was just out of this world! Also, I’ve never seen anyone happier playing a cello. The first woman singer was an angel in appearance and voice. A lot of good things to say about this video in whole.
Like Artie Shaw said, “All I can say is that Glenn should have lived, and ‘Chattanooga Choo Choo’ should have died”. This is a clip from the film "Sun Valley Serenade," released in 1941. It's standard Glenn Miller fare, nothing wrong with that, until 4:56, when Dorothy Dandridge and the Nicholas Brothers steal the scene. They elevate it to an entirely different level.
Expertly portrayed by Jimmy Stewart, the life of a Master Conducter and Musician, Glenn Miller who also rose to be a high ranking U.S. Air Force Officer
A great arrangement by Glen Miller, but the best part to me, and all parts were on the highest level of greatness, was the dancing of the Nicholas Brothers and the singing of the gorgeous Dorothy Dandridge!
SO many Miller sidemen went on to be major names in the music world. John Best, Zeke Zarchy, Paul Tanner, and of course Tex Beneke. To the best of my knowledge Ray Anthony is the sole surviving member of that awesome aggregation. He turned *100* in January 2022.
That would have been his USAAF Orchestra rather than this, the so-called "civilian" band which never performed outside of North America. Miller broke it up in September of 1942 when he joined the US Army and then transferred to the Army Air Forces. The AAF group is considered to have been the greatest swing band ever assembled, comprising a 24-piece jazz orchestra and a 21-member string section plus 5 vocalists (!) DEFINITELY worth a listen ... or 20.
That is the great music my grandparents and my mom & dad danced to when they weren't in high school yet. I just love it & to swing dance to it. Thanks for the post of a fantastic video. Heard Glenn Miller orchestra on the radio, but never saw him before.
Please to see this includes the great Dorothy Dandridge and Nicolas brothers, I love the way Glenn Miller and the band lead into this alternate version of the song, so good.
Such great music! Love the Big Bands! It’s tragic that Glenn Miller didn’t survive WWII!! What could have been…? Again, the Greatest Generation saved the world, and they created some of the greatest music ever! 🎶🎵🫡🇺🇸
Согласна на 💯%!!! Лучше просто не может быть! 😊
I say this as a viewing British man. This stuff contributes to what makes America great!!!
Thank you.
Has there ever been a better dancing brother-act than these two fellows? Fabulous!
It was wonderful being 20 in the '40's....,.
If I get to heaven, my heaven is going to be the 1940's where they play this all day long every day. Man, they were good back then
People were happy sometimes, once upon a time.
America’s decline from its heights is evident in our music and educational system - much better than
This was proper swing ,The best
Play nothing else all day and you'd go spare, so help me! But what fun to go nuts like that.
@@StarryGordon This film and others were made to make them feel happy in a time when nothing else did.

Absolutely love G M ❤ play his music in the car always .

I would love to live in that era with all those bands and singer's , Write music etc.. Wow such a time.. 💃 💖 🎶 🌹 👌🏼 🔥
Despite WW2, it must have been a real blast to live in the 40s.....if you're not toe tappin' to this....you better check if you have a pulse
how could we lose a war with music like this? answer- we couldn't.
I have nostalgia of a time I didn't live in... What music!
My mother saw their last performance before they crashed in the airplane leaving the Uk. How sad. Beautiful tho.

So sad
Salute to the greatest generation from 2021.
In 1941, everyone knew what was coming, and the Big Bands gave us all something joyous to remember fondly through the four dark years ahead. The talent and vitality of this number, captured on film, still resonates over 80 years later.
Well said!!
Classier times.

I growing with this! Glenn forever!
Wow! So great! Can remember jitterbugging to this song with my dad. Good memories.

Nothin but the Best with Glen Miller and the Band!!❤❤
Never seen so much incredible talent ...and all in one clip. Wow!!!
Absolutely amazing show, the playing the singing and the dancing -- just marvelous.
Fantastic beautiful!!
i,m in heaven! wonderful music!
Great and everyone is terrific.A great scene with the famous Nicholas Brothers Supreme dancing in any world class.

Now this is real music.
Such joyful music. Such joyful camaraderie amongst all the players of this day and time. One's heart could only break and cry to what the world's become and turned into after all these lives lost and sacrifices fought.
Don't forget, this is a clip from a movie. May be not how real life really was in 1941. For the US the war had just begun.

Outside of the US the world in 41 was in turmoil.
Great music 🎶 good to hear back in my youth years 🎼🎶❤
I always liked Glenn Miller's music!
Best music of all time. The big band era!!! Can't beat it. I could listen to it all night with the old gospel music mixed in

Glenn Miller não deve ter desaparecido, ele foi para outra dimensão, imortal.
Concordo!!!
i love the mucic from 30's and 40's now that music😊
A totally different world. So much gone forever.
The best time for the music
Wow those fellas are such agile and energetic dancers!
I absolutely love the music of Glenn Miller and to have the Nicholas Brothers in this video is such a treat. The orchestra is superb and so are all who played a part in it. Absolutely fabulous music!
What a great tribute to one of the best bands in history.
The best......
Watching the Nicholas Brothers dance is like viewing an Olympic sport competition! I'm astounded at their agility.
I agree- they are amazing!
And the Nicholas Brothers. Soooo much talent in one clip!!
Amazing stuff! I love Glenn Miller and the big band music of the 40s. Wonderful!
I’m a classic country music person, although I was raised on this music, I consider myself not as great a musician compared to these individuals. Absolutely stellar performance(s). 🎶
Love this remastered! Still a toe tapper even from 80 years ago. Wow! Dorothy Dandridge was sooo cute!
We miss old America.
I want to live in that time forever.
so would I...

Thank you Sutlers2day, I will do that.
Like all times in history there are good points and bad points. If you were a young man you would most likely end up fighting in a war.
The coolest I think ai have heard.
.
Now this is music (and singing); and acting.
La música es el idioma universal ♥️ y a mí me encanta la música de Glen Miller .
And.. all the guys could read music. Loove this stuff .

Glenn Miller, a Genius.
Eu era bem mociha quando assisti um filme com esta orquestra que se chamava música e lágrimas, filme muito triste.
Isso é um espetáculo maravilhoso. Excelente não canso de ouvir e assistir ou assistir e ouvir. 👏👏👏
All the people are great and with class
