      Looking from my "Big Bands Songbook," Cab was among one of the composers for "Minnie the Moocher;" the other two were Irving Mills and Clarence Gaskill. Also "Minnie" is the first single song by an African American to sell a million records. Considering that this happened in 1931--with the country going through the Great Depression, among other reasons--I'd say this was a huge accomplishment for Cab that shouldn't be overlooked.

    God, imagine this: His first recordings were with a whole band, all in front of a gramophone. Whoever was loudest was heard best. That means he had to BELT to outcompete the brass. That’s absolutely insane to me.

      79? 80? He was still scatting and dancing. Some people got up and danced and you could see they'd been dancing together for probably 40 years. It was a great evening. I scatted with Cab - whoo whoo! It's good to know he still has fans. Somewhere on YT there's a video of him singing "Mini the Moocher" to a great animation. Agreed - He was a truly fantastic stage performer and put out many GR8 songs - & was still going strong at 82 (I read in another comment) in this video. Now, 6 years after your comment (Jan 2024), people are saying the same about Mick & Keith at 80 after releasing their new album. I can only imagine seeing & hearing him perform back in the 30ies!! What an experience THAT would have been!! At least he left us a LOT of Musical Happines!! I'm not NEAR 80, but I have loved Cab since I was 11ish, & still love to hear him sing. The tempo here is a little faster than usual, it seems - maybe I am wrong. Either way, it sounds GR8 to me!!
      Peace!!

      @shannonschaerer1010 The song is indeed quicker. Cab in the 70s changed the genre of the song into disco to be a bit more modern than it's original blues one, but this is still the disco version, even being 14years after releasing the original disco one!!

    Folks, I'm goin' down to St. James Infirmary
    See my baby there;
    She's stretched out on a long, white table
    She's so sweet, so cold, so fair
    Let it go, let it go, god bless her
    Wherever she may be
    She will search this wide world over
    But she'll never find another sweet man like me
    When I die, bury me in my straight-leg britches
    Put on a box-back coat and a Stetson hat
    Put a twenty-dollar gold piece on my watch chain
    So you can let all the boys know I died standing pat
    An' give me six crap shooting pall bearers
    Let a chorus girl sing me a song
    Put a red hot jazz band at the top of my head
    So we can raise Hallelujah as we go along
    Folks, now that you have heard my story
    Say, boy, hand me another shot of that booze;
    If anyone should ask you
    You just tell 'em I've got those St. James Infirmary blues

    What an amazing Entertainer‼️
    One of the Greats.
    He was able to appeal to everyone, including whites, which, back in the day, was really something.
    Music is an International language all its own.
    Here at some 80+ years old, he still had it ❗️
    Thanks for posting.
    📻🙂

    *Cab Calloway - St James Infirmary & Minnie The Moocher* - Thanks again, Zycopolis TV!
    'St James Infirmary' is another song with rich biography which deserves a special playlist of numberless various brilliant performances.
