Hello i have an old suffolk swift push mower. I am still confused, does back lapping also sharpen the bedknife or does this only sharpen the cylinder.
It will do a bit on both..
Think of backlapping as liquid sandpaper being squished between the cylinder and bedknife which results in sharpening.
Engage the clutch so it has the resistance from the motor??
Thanks Lachlan, I did actually do this but edited it out. It still spun.. When I assembled the mower I used an impact driver to tighten the nut, I think that’s way it was so tight..
Did you have your reel sandblasted then powder coated then sharpened?
Yes.. I had it sandblasted, etch primed and then painted, but if you were to have it powder coated it would be the same, sandblasted and then powder coated 👍
