  • Mastic in french is equivalent to a filler hardener, used for body shop repairs. I’m using a Aluminium based mastic for this test. I’ll update this when eventually ridden. Looks good for top tube dents.

Great job, I used this stuff on my giant trance seat stay and downtube, I've been riding for four years without any problems.

Good to hear. I’ve got a Marin Team with an ugly dent, which hopefully can be cheaply sorted out

That’s not mastic (which stays soft and flexible), it’s polyester filler you’re using. It’s a very good system, but to prevent problems arising later with e filler cracking or falling out of the dent, here are a few details which might help. Use 120 aluminium oxide paper (sand paper - read the back of the sheet to get the correct grade) to remove all the last vestiges of paint and primer, and provide a key for the filler. Fill the dent slightly proud of the surrounding metal, and then sand it back with your 120 grade sand paper, followed by a something closer to 360 grade to get a smooth finish. Don’t use Wet & Dry paper and water; W&D used wet won’t clog, but the filler will absorb water which may cause micro blistering in your new paint finish unless thoroughly dried out over a week or so. This is a good way to sort out a dent, but beware: there may be raised edges which should be lightly hammered down before the filler is applied. Also, note that you can’t powder coat over most grades of filler: the heat will soften and crack it. And lastly, mask up the surroundings and spray mist coats from a greater distance to prevent the runs and drips. Good job though!

Sure will work fine. However, what happens when you get chainsuck again? The filler will fail easily. It is fine for other areas that are not in danger of contact with chains or any other sharp object. A metal filler would be better. It is such a small out-of-sight area, that you'd be ok just sanding the dent and painting it as-is.

    hi how are things!
Some time ago I bought a Giant Talon 3 but it was from a separate store and when the transporters sent it to me, I don't know how they dropped it or I don't know what happened.
My question is, does that small dent affect it a lot? I was measuring it and it says less than 2mm?

2mm? Nah, I’ve had aluminium frames with larger dents. Nothing happened. And we’re talking about a frame from the 90’s

It does not matter that the dent is on the lower side of the frame, that is, in the part where the transmission is.

Can’t remember, some kind of paint removal, gel type I found works best
