    Thank you I really enjoy seeing an original idea in doweling jigs....it would not take much to setup a 90 degree connection...it solves the problem of having the dowel holes line-up

    Well. I finally got around to making mine. I left a little extra room on both sides in case it didn't match up and I could trim some off. To my surprise, it matched up perfect. Didn't even need to sand it, even though I did. This has now taken the place of my Kreg pocket jig my wife bought me. Thanks, and (sorry honey).

Thank you for all your hard work. It is extremely helpful, and I am sure will save us all a ton of money. I am pretty new to woodworking and I really enjoy your expertise.

    Thank you for this simple and at the same time great idea. I am thinking to use brass pipe instead of steel spacers but I read several comments and see people are very keen to use these type of spacing. Now i m in doubt, is it okay to use brass pipe?

    • @crazyrussianwoodshop3957
      @crazyrussianwoodshop3957  5 років тому

      Thanks! The idea isn’t mine, I just showed my version of the doweling jig;)
      If you are not planning to use the jig a lot, the copper inserts would work for some time.

    Hi there. Do you think I can use the steel expansion sleeve of a row bolt for my dowel jig? Thanks

    • @crazyrussianwoodshop3957
      @crazyrussianwoodshop3957  6 років тому

      Hi, I think it would be OK as long as the sleeve holds the drill bit in place...

    Hi you are a joiner - if you were to use a Dado or a shoulder joint ( dado for say a middle shelf) and shoulder joint (rabbet I guess ) for the top of a cupboard - would you just use glue OR would you still use dowells?

    • @crazyrussianwoodshop3957
      @crazyrussianwoodshop3957  7 років тому +1

      True. It would be important to keep in mind while making the smaller diameter doweling jigs for skinnier boards...

      Thank you! I left the link under the video. If you can't order from their, you can also buy metal pipes from eBay. They sell many different diameters. Here is one for example: www.ebay.com/itm/1pc-OD-12mm-x10mm-ID-250mm-Length-304-Stainless-Steel-Capillary-Tube-Pipe-Silver/192230686574?epid=2261836426&hash=item2cc1d77f6e:g:XuwAAOSw6YtZUxtm

    I messaged you earlier this week re your dowelling jig for 1/2 in cedar - would the self centering jig work better and if so, what size metal insert would you use

    • @crazyrussianwoodshop3957
      @crazyrussianwoodshop3957  7 років тому

      Sorry, Burt, just checked the message board and didn't see your message.
      Anyway, I would say 1/4" dowels would do for your 1/2" board (an you can buy them).
      I would find some tube with aprox. 1/4 inch inside diameter and take from there. You can use an old wrench socket for it.
      I would say, this jig (in this video) would be the easiest jig to build at home shop as it doesn't have any moving parts (easier to make it precise)...
      Once you have some moving parts for centering-it would be so much easier to make it on the CNC machine...

    I like this idea, but won't the addition of the 'sandpaper' throw your measurement out by a fraction, unless you take that into account when doing the initial measurement!

    • @crazyrussianwoodshop3957
      @crazyrussianwoodshop3957  6 років тому +1

      You are right- it will. However, the fact that the dowel holes are not exactly centered is not a problem in this case. When you flip the top board and joint it to the bottom one- they will be flush, the dowel holes will be shifted a bit to one side on both boards.

    Я, конечно, благодарен Вам, Михаил, за энтузиазм и настоящую помощь в профессиональном просвещении, но:
    это что же, для каждого размера доски новые приспособы делать (или калиброванные пластины) для точной центровки отверстий?
    И самое неприятное: изготовление точного инструмента требует наличия этого точного инструмента )) Как раз этот весёлый этап прохожу.

    • @crazyrussianwoodshop3957
      @crazyrussianwoodshop3957  6 років тому

      Да, про изготовление инструмента-точно подметили:)
      По поводу размеров доски: не совсем так, так как в данном случае отверстие под шкант не должно быть точно по центру, когда заготовки будут соединятся, отверстие будет сдвинуто в сторону одинаково.
