My Wife is Helping to Cultivate the Garden!! // A Lesson with June
Вставка
- Опубліковано 30 вер 2024
- Today my wife is helping to cultivate the garden! We are using Ken, our Percheron draft horse, to clean out the weeds in the garden. After that, we are doing a daily lesson with June, our new Belgian/Suffolk Punch filly.
Watch our videos to learn about draft horses- horse logging, horse farming, and horse training! Jim uses Belgian, Percheron, and Suffolk horses to do work on the farm and in the woods. He teaches about harnesses, horse-drawn logging and farming equipment, horse feeding and maintenance, and voice commands for horses. New videos uploaded every week. Keep watching to see how Jim trains his new Suffolk Punch colts as he has trained his full-grown teams!

I have to laugh at Brenda telling Ken, "I hope I'm not too heavy" He is used to toting far heavier weights than you. He'll be fine! In fact, I doubt he will even know you're up there. lol
That was so funny !
I think it was a bit of sarcasm Brenda knows the score
Jim to Brenda: "Jump right on!" Brenda: "Sorry Kenny. Hope I'm not too heavy..."
😄😄🤣
That wee Junie, such a beautiful creature! And excellent training, Jim.
Happy Birthday to us, Canada is 157 years old!
Happy Canada Day to You as well from a New Brunswick Canadian.
The Mrs feeling guilty riding Kenny..
You don't have apologize Brenda, Ken could handle 3 people on his back without any problems.
Absolutely is a big and strong Percheron Gelding who could easily carry Brenda and Jim on his back without any problem
June is precious. I hope I live long enough to see June and Bree hitched together!
Hey Jim and Brenda, A great idea to have Brenda help steer and ride Ken while you were cultivating the vegetable garden. Brenda's posture on the horse is wonderful . Sitting up square with her heels down directly under her seat was excellent. With some time and instruction Brenda could turn into a good rider. The thing that Brenda has going for her is she's extremely fit . Of course you use different muscles to ride a horse for sure. Developing what horsemen call a good seat is crucial to be able to learn balance and follow the gates of the horse. Example a 4 beat walk ,a 2 beat Trot and a 3 beat canter or lope. June is such a beautiful filly and she's growing like a wed. She has a great eye and she's really listening and following along with Jim. She really likes Jim and picks up all 4 feet easily . Consistent routines and Jim's calm demeaner goes along way with this young filly. Lady is such a great Mom and she really trusts Jim as well with her Baby.
Skip didn't know what to think about his mom climbing up on Ken to ride around! So cute!🏇😘 Little Junie has really filled out good since seeing her last week! Lady is supplying her with good nourishment! I love how her mane and tail have curls and waves! For Lady to not like Bill around her and her baby just shows how protective she is as Bill has always been her best buddy! Lady and Baron sure make beautiful babies!❤
I love how kind you both are to all of ❤your animals.😊
Still love how the dog directs everything
Well, I couldn't understand why Brenda wasn't driving but now she is. I think it's working better
Can we talk about how "regal" Brenda looks atop Ken??
Skippy thinks this is hilarious good fun!
Hi Jim & Brenda, great stuff, a joy to watch, thanks for sharing your day with us.
Your garden looks good after it has been cultivating by Jim and Brenda. It helps get the weeds out of the garden too.
Brenda, thanks for the "extra" footage at the end. Enjoyed watching Lady and June work their out to pasture.
I love❤ draft babies, they are just so chill compared to light horses.😊
A good draft horse / light horse crosses make decent saddle horses / driving horses with good training. and patience.
Brenda you look so small sitting on Ken, what a handsome boy Ken is...as for June what a beauti ❤ thankyou for sharing dear friends.
Wow, Miss Brenda looks good up there, the garden is beautiful. Thanks for letting us hang out with y'all at the farm.
What an incredable filly. June is learning very quickly with your patience. I enjoyed this video!
2:08 As my Drill Sergeant would have said "YOUR OTHER HAW GRAIN BOY!"
June is a smart little foal. She’s learning so quickly.
Poor Kenny looked a little confused at first or maybe just annoyed by the horseflies and distracted. But once you changed it up, so Brenda was driving that seemed to work better. ❤ June is so cute with her little mane! I wonder if June and Lady and Bree would get along well enough together while you are gone.
I doubt it. The other day Lady pinned her ears back trying to keep Bree from being close to June! She was so upset with Bree getting close to her baby.
Good first day of July
Sorry Brenda had to laugh when you told Ken sorry hoped you weren't to heavy for him you look like you weigh 110 lb soaking wet Ken probably glad you were there to help keep those flies off one of the hardest places for them to reach garden looks Fantastic 😀 ❤❤❤
Jim is so far ahead of the majority when it comes to patience and consistent repetition
😊❤
My uncle used to do this with his horses. 🐎 ❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
My dad grew up on a farm that used horses. He would love your channel if he was still alive.
that garden sure looks good plowed up. Gosh is it chilly today? Jim has on a jacket..it is 93 down here in South Alabama today. Again Barron and Lady have some beautiful daughters.
Favorite place is on the horse!
I’m jealous! What a privilege to ride Ken. It’s good to learn this for yourself Brenda. Fun video❤
A video with sweet Ken! Nothing better.
I love Ken, just like I loved Buck.
@@pamelawoodall5891 Two Great Hard Working Percheron Geldings .
Patience and repetition, over and over again.
She is going to be a great addition to your herd..👍👍
It's also best to change up the training routine when June gets a bit older . To have some variety so the young horse doesn't get sower with to much repetition.
I realize June has not lost her baby hair. However, I think she is lighter colored than her big sister.
Good morning 🙏. The garden is looking good. Seems a bad year for flies. It's amazing the many kinds of work horses can do. Love it. Thanks for sharing this Canada Day.🇨🇦❤️
Ken is light skinned and sensitive to horse flies. Jim is so kind to stop the cultivating and swat the horse flies.
Hay Brenda and Jim, while you are at Horse Progress Days (HPD) check the vendors for FlyNets for your horses. Some are still available in leather and other materials. You may like those that are a Zebrastripe sheet. When leading JuneBug try to carry a whip/wand/training stick in your left hand a and walking by her head/neck area so that you can touch her butt with the stick to cue her to walk.
Some horse flie traps work good at significantly reducing the females that bite when placed near and around where needed on the farm.
I love how the garden looks from the drone as you're tilling it! Oh, poor guy with all those horse flies 🪰. They're so nasty. Brenda, you did a great job!!
Ohhhh! Little Lady June!! She seems much more mellow! She's precious!! Great video!!! 💕
Ah, so precious.. but little babies grow so quickly....
She's coming along really nicely. I hope she and Bree will make a really nice team for you in a few years.
With Jim and Brenda Gordon providing care and training of Bree and June there is no question that the 2 full sisters will become a beautiful team of Mares.
@@PeterDowd-r9b I'm sure they will both make really nice mares, but it remains to be seen if they will match in size, build, stride length and temperament to make a really good team.
Brenda , you look absolutely beautiful sitting up on Ken doing the cultivating. ( too much weight are you kidding ) Gorgeous drone video today and June looks Amazing, Her mane is so curly, very NICE.
June is getting so big , she doesnt have to be by mom all the time now.
I love watching the dog in everything you guys do. He/she already knows what's going on.
Skippy is a male dog and is oh so cute. He is learning and getting better. I'm glad he sat back and watched Lady and June leave the box stall to go outside..
Love the baby training. So calm and kind.
that garden work was a Test of all Tests,,it worked out great. little June is doing excellent...A t..that's an A plus guys..❤❤
That little June (bug) has really grown some already❤
Woman Ken won't know your there
Oh my gosh Brenda , you're too funny ! If it wasn't for the reigns, Ken wouldn't even know you're up there !
Reins is the word you want. Not reigns.
Reins or Lines.
The King reigns, but when he rides he holds the reins.
Okay , okay , I get it
I believe every baby that I have had has started to nibble. My wife thinks when this begins to happen, it is a sign of trust. I personally do not like any part of that bad habit.
Do you folks have any plans to "AI" Lady with Baron's seed for next year? I was just wondering. Keep up the good work. Peace ✌️
Brenda, my dear! 🤗You are so sweet to think about Kenny carrying you. And, I am so impressed with Jim and June's progress. She is learning so quickly. Jim, you are a mighty patient person. Great video.
never get tired of watching that beautiful baby.
Years ago, we had a quarter horse. A friend and I were ready to put blanket and saddle on when the horse reared up. A bumble bee was in the blanket, bit the horse, chased my friend, didn't sting her, but chased me to the house and stung me on the thumb. It was three times bigger than the other one!!! 😮
I can't decide which was cuter... Brenda riding Ken and pulling the cultivator or June's training session!
Both activities were equally enjoyable
Nice Equine....Sweat on bare legs stings.....
There sure is a fly spray! Made in Australia, available at some cost online, so if you decide to try it, I suggest a bulk buy.
Aeroguard Tropical Strength. Comes in a pressure can or a roll on. Roll on good around horses' faces and spread with hands, spray for on body, spray on hands then wipe on face/ears. Ditto on yourselves, repels all bugs, flies, mozzies.
Aeroguard was developed after a visit from our then young Queen, who was filmed disgustedly brushing away myriads of flies.
It is a life-changer, stinks but not for too long, lasts about half a day. The horses learn what its for, just don't get it up noses or in eyes, equine or human, makes me sneeze, watch the wind.
June is looking and behaving fabulous! She has wonderful eyes, huge, expressive, and bugged right out for 360 vision. She is gonna be a better horse than Bree, and its the eyes. Bree is wonderful, but every foal is different. For the nibbles, load, your forefinger and thumb and be ready to give her the tiniest flick on the nose.
Will u put lady in foal this year
Brenda is such a little thing and Kenny is a big ole whopping horse! 😊😊😊
Brenda looked very comfortable riding Ken. But a good saddle horse for Brenda would about 1/2 the size of Ken and about 15 .2 Hands High.
The Mrs is nervous with bags of nervousness.. It is just matter of confidence once she get used to life on the farm and the hard graft to work on many tasks to keep everything working thick tuck thick tuck.. Go for it Mrs.
June has really filled out these past couple weeks. She really is going to be a gorgeous filly just like her sister Bree. Thank you for sharing.
Try dryer sheets for local fiy prevention
ohhhh start saving them all 😅
yOU ALL MAKE QUITE A TEAM TO GET THE GARDEN I SHAPE. EVEN SKIPPY IS MAKING SURE THE GARDEN WILL PRODUCE IN ROWS. KEN REMEMBERS THE ROWS.
Good job to all of the team members involved( human and animals) wonder if Skippy would be scared to go for a ride! June has filled out so nicely for only 18 days old! Looks like she is going to be a quick learner! Enjoy your days away and safe trip. I plan on going to see some fire works tonight for Canada Day July 1st celebrations🇨🇦🤠🎇🎆Enjoy your 4th of July celebrations🇺🇸
Thank you Jim Brenda Ken and Skipperkey..You have enough horse power there to pull 20 cultivators😂😂😂😂❤❤❤❤.
Little June is certainly growing into a little cutie.
KEN!
Gd Morning Brenda nd Jim. Like seeing your garden from above while hearing you up close. Sorry those flies are so bad for Ken nd yall. I could hear th horse flies ( I was train to ride Enflish rider be4 becoming a trail guide. Brenda gather your reins, nd hold the reins closer to his main/ neck, nd straighten your arms. Squeeze the rein on the same side as you want to go. Now ENJOY 😅 Cheers. 😂 God bless yall
Many, many years ago I helped a lady up into the saddle of one of my horses by letting her step into my joined hands and giving a little push. Unfortunately I pushed a bit too much - she ended up on the ground on the other side. None of this happened here.
I have a picture in my head!!😂
That happened on an episode of Mom called "Good Karma and the Big Weird"🤣
@@specterman2000 Never saw that, was it at least funny? The lady I had "helped" laughed it off and climbed on again, this time I just pushed gently.
@@klauskarbaumer6302 It was! 🤣Why not check it out?
@@klauskarbaumer6302 I think it was pretty funny!🤣 Why not check it out!
How does Jim talk to the Horses? I understand Wo, but I don't understand the command he gives Ken!
Gee is right and Haw is left.
June is going to be a great team member.Look at her butt muscles already.Going to be quite strong down the line.😊
Awesome to see garden and little June!!
June has a curly mane & tail, love it!
My father cultivated corn with horses when he was growing up. He led the horse between the rows. The horse would slobber on him and he had to be quick on his feet to avoid getting stepped on. When the corn got tall the leaves scratched his face. He hated it.
👍👍👍👍
My father in law used horses for plowing and cultivating.
I found horse flies worst if you have goats less than a mile away. Great job with the garden.
Finally Brenda gets to ride and Jim's walking 😅
🤭
Great video! Brenda looks great on the back of a draft horse! Garden is growing very well! June is so cute!
June seems to be more calm than Bree was last year.
❤ You made the garden work look so easy, Little Brenda probley felt like a bird on big Ken's back.lol I mentioned this in a previous video. I lived in Vermont for many years but I grew up in N.Y. just south of Plattsburgh, but Ive since retired to Sunny Southwest ,Florida and your videos bring me back home. Thank you, n June is Beautiful. God Bless you all.
This is sooooo cool guys! What a fun video. Brenda,... I'm sure big Ken doesn't even notice your weight. To him, you are a little half-pint. ❤ 😂 God Bless. - ACD
What a great I'm like everybody else when Brenda said she hoped she wasn't to heavy. Drought that ken Evan noticed. Lol. I believe Skippy want to be up there with Brenda. June is beautiful little filly. Thanks for sharing ..
What a good sport you are Brenda and Ken can handle your weight! Jim, hope this isn't payback for creative rows.
Great fun!
My heart breaks for the cow crying!😢
Now I understand!
Ken can pull around thousands of pounds, I don't think he hardly noticed Brenda on his back. June seems to have some long legs. Have a Happy and Safe 4th of July!!!
Brenda, you look so small sitting up on Ken. No, never bored watching a foal. Love it. Thanks
June is so beautiful. Thanks for sharing with us. 👍🙋🏻♀️✌️
I guess it’s a drone function but I have noticed on UA-cam that some graphics are backwards like looking in a mirror. But when you were calling Gee ,Ken was going left on the video
🤔Nice presentation on garden plowing, June leading etc 👏 curious 👀 the furnace in use any case Jim/Brenda have an enjoyable Pennsylvania trip 👍👋
Your video is very interesting like always, always something new, thank you.!
Hmmm, if the garden is two long rows, it’d be cultivator friendly, xo
What a blessing to have all that land!! I know it’s a lot of work, but you can make a livelihood from it. Great job, you guys!
So enjoyed the video today. Thank you! As to the battle of black flies, recall when growing up and heading to cottage country for our summer vacations on the advice of my Grand Father who was a pharmacis;' the entire family took a Vitamin E supplement for about two weeks prior to doing so that seemed to work as a repellent. Fast forward (as an adult) mentioned such to an acquaintance whose husband was in the forest industry who put his entire crew on it and it appeared to be effective as well though cannot verify if it was for the entire season. Why it worked I really have no idea and am just mentioning it in event, it might prove beneficial to Jim.
Was just thinking, since it looks like you have the space, why not a long garden with just 1 or 3 rows? Really wide dirt runs on the outside. I would think the plants would like that too. Fewer turns when cultivating.
Couldn’t you apply a wheel on the plow? I’ve seen others with a wheel but maybe it’s not adaptable. Just thinking !
Ken says, “It’s hard for me to GEE with Brenda on my back!”
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
What do you do with all the veggies you grow? Can? Sell? Freeze? Curious
Hello Jim and Brenda, Bill acts like he has done this before. Good bless 🙏❤️👍 June is a little bitter ball.. lol
I used to use Spaulding fly predators ,out of California. Look on line. It helped a lot , but you can’t eradicate all flies
Is the video backwards? Seems like you were saying gee in the garden and he went haw a couple times! I love Brenda riding, looks like a good way to do the garden.
I have never seen someone ride a working horse while plowing. There a first time for everything.
Skip didn' know what to do when Brenda got up on Ken.
I have an all natural fly recipe I will dig up for you. I used it in Minnesota for the whole summer worked here.
Pyranha fly spray will do what other sprays won't. I have been riding in groups that use other brands and my horse is the only one not irritated by the horse Flys. Try it!
Brenda looks right at home on top of Ken !! And June looks beautiful !!
The sky!!! So peaceful and beautiful...
Sounds like you are dragging that cultivater through a gravel pit!!!
