The sand idea, while in execution was unable to provide much resistance, in an actual fight would cause a lot of issues with ground stability and speed loss so I also thought that was an interesting attempt too, at least if the sand area were big enough. Am I dumb? 30ft movement. Then one 5ft section changes to the cost of 10ft. So of the 6 5ft zones. One of those zones costs 10ft, so 1x10ft and 4x5ft = 30ft, but split into 5 5ft sections meaning you should move 25ft if one 5ft area is difficult (like the incredibly harrowing Grace world destroyer)

2:43 Armor limits mobility only in mud or sand, because the weight makes you sink into it more quickly. On any solid surface you can run and jump around in full plate armor (20 kg) as if it wasn´t there, you will only get tired sooner because of it.

Having done a fair amount of hiking, I can confidently state that roads and tracks are fantastic for maintaining pace, while trying to find your own track can really slow you down, especially for a novice at it. And don't even think about going fast over trackless razorback ridges while wearing a backpack (5 of us made 3 miles in 4 hours over some truly heroic scenery, and we were fit and carrying "only" 40lbs each max).

As much as you could point out the lack of anything like armour and equipment, the act of doing calculated actions while also moving in that 6-second timeframe, etc, the fact you folks can get through this difficult terrain pretty casually makes it easy for me to imagine a character acting in the moment of life-or-death combat who would be doing everything with their full energy, speed, and focus. Not to mention that they wouldn't mind getting splashed by bog water ;)

I'm sure that if you look up your local SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism) group, they could help to outfit you with some armor and gear, if you really want to test that way. Plus, armor is WAY easier to wear and move in than most people realize without having done it. It really doesn't restrict your movement that much, and it definitely isn't heavy enough to slow you down much.

Simulate fighting in a crowded tight space like a tavern. Its so loud and hectic no one notices the 2 people silently trying to stab each other amongst the crowded bar floor, trying to hold your footing while being bumped into random patrons.
