- We need to talk. Jackson dropped this earlier this year and it seems like its the new unofficial Alexi Laiho Signature Model from the past.
Something that we've alö been waiting for? I guess not since there are a lot of people raging about it and some are very happy. But where does this anger comes from? And why do the specs seem off but they are not? And why Jackson missed out on a lot of opportunities.
The only thing that is missing is actually children of bodom, sinergy or Alexis name printed on the back of the guitar.
Lets discuss the whole release and tell me what you think about this.
Its kind of a weird gear reviews too since its not even a review because you cant buy it yet but then again the gear is actually a bit odd...i dont know, I just put it in the playlist now.

Its funny how you say that the Duncan with boost sounds bad. Alexi used it on Blooddrunk which coincidentally utilized a Kerry King signature Marshall, so its funny you mentioned him in this video. That whole Blooddrunk album sounded like an EXPLOSION and I love it. It isn't a tone I would use but it works great for what it is

I have 1999 custom RR with non-recessed Floyd and it is the best playing guitar I ever owned. You can pull up and dive just like it was a recessed Floyd

I'm so sick of imports costing $2,000-$3,000. If I could afford that, I wouldn't be buying imports. Thank you for calling them out! Guitar manufacturers have been out of their fucking minds!
lately i was really shocked by all the new line ups and prices. ESP still takes the cake for me with an LTD for 2649 with Floyd Rose 1000. Also some of the lower budget guitars from LTD reached 1.5k which wouldve been retailing 10 years ago for half the price. This is not inflation anymore, thats insanity. I get that everything gets a bit more expensive but we're talking almost double prices and other manifacturers are able to put nice guitars with same specs and materials for half the price on the market.

For the preamp part, Alexi actually used really low output passive EMGHZ with the preamp, the preamp doesn't only boost the gain but also alters the resonant frequencies. He only used the active Blackouts for a very short period of time before switching back the passive EMG.
This Jackson looks pretty sick… I got the Mark Helymun 7 string Rhoads which looks the same as this 6 string.
No QC issues with the Jackson mark Heylmun… Indonesian made and very happy.
The top mounted Floyd sounds pretty sick - I have a top mounted Floyd on my Brandon Small Explorer and it’s actually very comfy for Rhythm playing.
I’ve bought two Edwards Alexi in the last year - Scythe and Greeny . It’s much better quality and finish than the LTD Alexi Ripped I got the other year. You can snag up an Edwards Alexi for $1200 US with a gig bag. I agree the LTD and Jackson prices for imports is getting crazy 🤯 I’m looking at another Edwards - Arrow it Pinky 🔥
Did you buy your Mark heylum new? I've seen 2 now that have bubbles in the neck now. I really want one but worry about QC

Why would anyone get mad over a guitar? Jackson built and builds all of these guitars it's not like these artists built them! You should be happy you can get one now and not have to pay eBay scammer prices!
Agree on that. I can get one of those one pick up RR24 from local dealers shop in my town. And im going to do that.
Because Jackson sucks now and when ESP put out Alexi's regular series and LTD signature models, Jackson released their line which looked exactly like the ones Alexi used after telling them they couldnt commission his custom guitar builds in 02 when his personal Jackson got lost or taken by someone. Jackson is one of the worst companies and they are a huge cash grab for an inferior version of what used to be amazing classic instruments. I hope Jackson goes out of business

I initially dismissed it at the original price and completely forgot about this guitar.The graphite neck rods are pretty good, both my jacksons have them and i don't need to adjust the truss rods on them unless i change tuning; unlike my other guitars which need summer/winter adjustments. The lack of hardcase is very much on par for a lot of manufacturers at this price point in the last ~5 years. However, I can see where they're coming from: a boxed up guitar is more or less the same size as a new hardshell case, a shipping container full of guitars (probably/i hope) makes a lot more money than a shipping container full of cases, plus shipping is more expensive than it used to be.
If it plays anything like my 2021 concept series Soloist, it’s going to be amazing. I’ve owned numerous USA Jackson’s over the years, and my concept series looks, plays, and sounds just as good as any USA Jackson, if not better.
Pre ordered one the day they released lol. Love the top Mount Floyd, it’s a very 80’s thing to do and is a nice touch to harken back to the Alexi/Stone models. The Korean models should be fine. Remember the original Alexi 600 LTD’s were Korean and were fantastic. Honestly, don’t knock the soft shell case. I’ve got one for an import RR and it is very rigid. Definitely wouldn’t fly with it, but gigging with it shouldn’t pose an issue. Will do a shootout between my MIJ RR24 and my Jackson Stars once it arrives! I was originally told late June it would ship out.

The Korean ltd's were really good, that's true. I'm very rough with cases sometimes, also while packing and gigging, problem is that I'm not concerned about the guitar in the case or softshell, but stacking, removing beer, stains and dirt, cut and ripped fabrics etc.
The worst thing about this is probably the resell value of those. They are very expensive in retail but resell value is basically very low. Cases usually have value in general.
The MIJ RR24 were great. And also for that price!
Which stars did you get? Was it the one that got sold recently for 4 grand? The pure black one?
@@Dignityofficial_ I paid a little over 2000 for it after tax and what not. I definitely see what you mean about the soft case not handling wear and tear so much due to the fabric material. I got the RRJ2SP off of Reverb several years ago! Mine is the one with the gold pinstripes and the gold Jackson Stars logo. I've got a video on my channel showing the ABQ vs MM-04 in my Stars and my MIJ RR24.

Yeah this is actually the only concerns I have with those softshell cases. Stacking and wear/tear.
Because I know how my cases look like after one year of gigging.

I played the Mark Heylum at Guitar Center and was super pumped for it. It had bubbles on the neck by the frets, tremolo was corroded looking and crazy high action and just shifty looking. Definitely crushed my hopes of buying Jackson

Yeah but this is exactly the experience I had last year. It's more or less a gamble. And that's not how it should be.
Im going to go a head and try that active Seymor Duncan Black Out and gain boost. My RR24 came equipped with 2 Black Out mics. So i have them on shelf. I am upgrading my first guitar anyway. One pickup Washburn G4.
I just ordered one of the last five units available for europe. I think the non recesed floyd will be awesome and a brand new Schaller german made will put the top of the cake in this jackson. Big fan of Alexi and as a former owner of one of the 75 mij yellow rr24,s I was just waiting for this new rr24 too many years... Thank you for your deep review of the concept, buy one dont hesitate, my local shop told me that jackson will release a second batch of this model in june.

I had the struggle between this and the Edwards Sawtooth (AL166) preorder… I ordered the Edwards of many reasons. First I am not happy with the Top Mounted Floyd, second I own a few edwards guitars and they are very well in terms of quality and feeling, third i don‘t wont to buy a new Guitar for like 2k and the first thing have to do is to mod it…. And at least in some case i like the Design on the ESPs over the Jacksons. For the Edwards there is a Softcase too..😂 But maybe it’s a tip for u cuz i saw u also usw preamps and an H2 :)
I don't know how to feel about this tbh. I would get a Jackson concept RR one because that is what Alexi used back then and Made In Japan. But on the other hand, it is kinda obvious that they are borrowing a lot of stuff from ESP rn lol. Which is kinda weird since they kinda don't want ESP to make anything using the KV and RR shape

I think it's meant more for boosting your gain for leads or for using with lower gain amps (like Marshall JCMs), at least that's how I'd use it with active pickups.

It's absolutely unusable. At least imo. But if there's any good use for anybody, I'm not even complaining and accept it if theres a good use to that. I just can't think of a good use, not even in this scenario since a passive pickup and a boost would've been enough to overdrive any amp to max distortion.

I don't know man. I've just always loved that guitar regardless of Alexi. Feels funny to hear people complain about jackson copying ESP since ESP are the masters of using other people's shape and ideas lol. The Edwards line up is pretty much copy/paste of the classics. I have nothing against ESP but I prefer the neck profile on Jacksons.
I don't mind the top mount floyd personally. I don't really use it, I just love the tension of it. However I could have sacrifices the SS frets to have an original FR like on the RR24HS.

But a custom one definately. :) It´s nice to see that Alexi is still relevant in his own lane..even when the guy is a dead legend.

The green pinstripe RR was actually recessed! Daniel Freyberg owns it now I believe, there is a video of the guitar somewhere on UA-cam.
Don't care much for the 81 and the AB, I'd swap it for a J50BC and a JE-1000 clone, which will probably require routing out the pickup cavity, and I suspect the sort of player that would buy one of these would do the same, or an EMG with an MM-04. I believe some people are mad about the 1000 series Floyd... which I find a perfectly acceptable Floyd. Why people are claiming Jackson is copying ESP/LTD is beyond me, but you touched on that subject in the video.
I really want to get one, but I had dismissed it because of the initial price, for that kind of money you can occasionally find an RR-1, or if you need 24 frets you can find Japanese build RR24's for half of that if you're lucky. Interested to see if retail prices will drop now that the price on the website has changed tho! That being said it's still pretty good compared to other brand names.
As for the elephant in the room, the non-recessed Floyd... I really want to see the actual guitars before I make up my mind on this. I own a Charvel Model 6, which is non recessed, has incredibly low action with insane playability, and due the the huge neck angle the Floyd sits so high that you can do insane pull ups on it, so if this RR24 is going to be like that, I will really consider buying one, as the neck angle is one of the factors that make the Model 6 so nice to play for me personally, feels better for some reason. Also one less place to lose a pick.

Correct! I corrected myself with the green pinstipes in post with a small comment since i actually misremembered. And yes freyberg owns it, there are also some pictures of him playing it live.
I dont really think that anybody really would care for this combination of pickup and boost. Floyd rose 1000 is acceptable and a nice floyd. To be fair it does the job and the quality is more than fine. The only thing it that the knife edges degrade faster. Most people never reach this state of wear and tear though.
True Im very curious how the price will develop further. But I have the iompression that generally this guitar will sell well, which would mean the price will not drop significantly more. Past shows that ESP/LTD can ask for ridiculous prices and people will pay it, even though other companies offer the same for 2/3 of the price....sometimes even half...I mean look at the latest krames and compare the specs and prices with the equivalent ltds.

@@Dignityofficial_ I don't think the price will drop much further, if at all, I'd just like to see big retailers like Thomann etc, adjust to the current price on the Jackson website. I actually think 1850 is fair for what you get. I'd say the initial price was the preorder price, and the current one will be for models in stock in a few months, much like the other concept RR was 2000 here and now sells for 1700ish. Fingers crossed!
As for what other brands offer, there is so much good stuff out there! I've never been a fan of Ibanez, but they make great guitars, and LTD's pricing is just gone insane, doesn't match the quality anymore in my opinion. But the problem is that this is pretty much all we can find in music stores in Europe... My local retailer only recently started offering Kramers, and they all come very poorly setup, so hard to get a good impression. But if you want more 'metal' shapes, they're hard to find in my area. If people can't see and feel quality, and there's not enough appeal to them to blindly order them of the internet, they just won't sell.
1000 series knife edges and wearing out, my RR24 for 2007 gets used daily and has perfect knife edges. Just need to be a bit more patient and take tension of them when adjusting (same with JT-6 on Charvel Model 6), but other then that I really don't have any trouble with the 1000 series, the newer ones even look like OFR's! The only trouble I've ever had was with a Schaller tremolo, the saddle screws wouldn't grip anymore, but even that's an easy fix with a helicoil (also sorted on the newer Schallers with hardened inserts).

Just buy an Edwards. I own a Greeny, Pinky, Arrow, & Scythe. They’re all great for ~$1,200 shipped. Scalloped on the last 4, pre amp boost on all models now, etc…
I’d love to see one of these in a head to head vs an Alexi of the same price range.
Honestly it might even be better than the ltd models in terms of specs quality and so on.
But my guess would be that this would brutally loose this battle against the Edwards models.

Which is absolutely fine and even better! It's not like they gift it to you or its free with every purchase until the stock is no more, its calculated into the price you pay anyway, which means you pay for it if you want it or not. On their website the specific foam core soft shell case retails for 169,00€. The RR Case from jackson cost on their website 195,00€. If you dont offer a case or softshell, then you can choose if you want to buy some on top. If you get a case and you dont want it, it has resell value, approx. 3/4 or retail price. A softshell case is basically worth nothing compared to the retail, probably way below 1/3 and you might sell it. And thats the problem, you pay extra. Twice.

Korean made Jacksons are fantastic I own 3. Much better than the Indonesia made Jacksons I own. Are they still overpriced? Yes they are but if you love Jackson like me for whatever reason Korean made are awesome. I love the soft shell cases myself but Im not dragging them out much.
the white concept rr comes with an original floyd but if the specs are correct the black one has "just" a 1000...
since they cost almost the same thats really annoying and unfair.
i own some rr24 MIJ and also the white concept and the build quality is identical. you cant tell any difference in terms of craftmanship

If that RR24 single pickup model is over 2000€. Then im not going to buy that guitar. Because i also can get an ESP Edvards Aleksi Laiho Signature guitars. Allso from that same local dealer. I have one of those ESP Edvards Aleksi signature guitars and it is just stunningly well made guitar. Hand made in same place where those 5000€ Aleksi Laiho ESP versions are made. That ESP Edvards is at same price range than that Jackson is.

I had a usa select 2005 rr1 with gold pinstripes . It had 2 duncans and recessed ofr.. i think it was 2100 bucks in 2005 . 1800 for the guitar and 300 bucks upcharge for the pinstripes . This was mega expensive to me and realisticly couldnt afford, but didnt care. Within a week of buying it, I smacked the upper wing off something and took a 2 inch chunk out of it. I baby all my guitars, I was devastated! I got so scared to play it, it just stayed in my closet for like 4 years and i sold it... in retrospect, i should have kept it 😢
that sounds like a very unfortunate series of events. But yeah, that sounds like a very good and reasonable price for a USA select
@Dignityofficial_ another one that slipped away i had was a 2003 ibanez jem that was sparkle blue with blue vine inlays.. i think they were 1200 bucks new back then.. The funny thing was that musicians' friend blew them out for 8 or 900 bucks shortly after lol . Those go for like 3 grand plus on the used market now lol

i have the alexi pinky with a blackout and the boost switch. the switch is completely useless. no clue how alexi made it work, he claimed it was almost always on.

I have a pinky Edwards on my way from Japan as I write this comment. It has the blackout with a switch. Would you mind describing what makes it useless to you or how i should approach "fixing " it? Switching to EMG81?
The amount of gain the guitar goes into the amp with. The blackout is already a really high output active pickup. Boosting it even more is like putting artificial sweetener to dr. Pepper because it's still not sweet enough.
It just overdrives and distorts the signal into unrecognizable mud.
My take on this would be either dialing the preamp completely down to zero and only use the frequency response change, swapping the blackout for a passive pickup, don't use the boost at all or find an amp that can handle this much input gain and still sounds decent.
Don't swap it for an 81, this is also an active pickup. If you want to swap it, swap it for a low output pickup to really make use of the preamp.

@@Luxpalloris i just dont use the booster switch and it sounds amazing. there is already so much gain from the blackout itself.
that said, one time i was visiting my parents and all i had was this guitar, and plugging into an antique tube amp i was able to get surprisingly metal tones using the gain switch.

and the other for $200 but that one came with the two single coils from a model 4 but ive seen them up to almost $300 for 1
and then spent another $180 for the mm-04 preamp

I know its called rhandy Rhoades for a reason. I even recall the whole story about this guitar and the Jackson company but it's by now just a shape. Signature guitars nowadays are anyway really really inflationary. Standard guitars get a different color. Signature.
Nothing is personalized but somebody wanted to have a guitar named after him. Bam, signature.

Oh btw. Jackson didn't invent it...it was literally the charvel shop who dropped this guitar with the name Jackson on it named after well... somebody who literally managed charvel at this point.
Wasn't the first prototype Jackson, but the first guitar that launched the company.

@@Dignityofficial_ thats what I remembered, that it is pearloid and not pearl I thought you would mention it in the video, now that is something for people to complain about at that price range.... but neither the white concept series from last year is pearl, although they do put it at the MIJ ones they released that are like 2.5k if i'm not mistaken
@@paintaway2349 is it though? I mean i'd rather have hardware upgrades rather than cosmetics. For example no preamp but OFR. I can live with no pearl, which is sad, but not a factor that i would count into my judgement. but maybe thats just me
@@Dignityofficial_ it's not an issue changing the pearloid to pearl is pretty easy... yes to me it is negligible but I have a sense that most people don't feel like that, they don't want an approximately 2k guitar look like a toy
I'm with you, then again we need to remember that we talk about companies here. They are not obliged to our demands and needs, they are a profitable organisation with the intention to make money. The best "offer", the best price, the best parts are only for them profitable. Which means that even they only save a couple pennies on a part, it means that the profit rises. On one occasion it doesn't matter, if we talk thousands there's suddenly a big profit to be made.
The question is always: will it sell.
If it does, fine, if it doesn't then they need to adjust prices and reduce losses. What I'm trying to tell you is that they could do all of that but don't. If they would do it like you please, they won't need a custom shop, that's for the people who have money. The imports, upper and lower guitars are still only for the masses and they need to sell and they need to be profitable. And that's it.
Sad but that's how companies work.
I think the non-recessed floyd wouldn't be an issue here if they were actually using the original measurements/specs they did back then. You can see remnants of the "non-recessed floyd with a tilted neck" spec in Roope's rig rundown (ua-cam.com/video/4GLZhnGr0VU/v-deo.html). He even mentioned that it was from his old Jackson's specifications, tho that particular ESP has a route
i bought it. i have this RR here right now, the neck is little bit tilted , very few degree so that even if you have top mounted FR you can pull it up a bit, really its not a problem to me, it works ! the arm is the shitty arm of every FR1000, a lot of play and noise even if you tighten it a lot. there is a play in that hole , it is not like the FR original that you have no play , the FRO arm fit perfectly in the arm hole ! anyway i know i am repeating this but the surprise is that i couldnt never image the neck was a bit tilted , like guitars with tunomatic for example, but very very few degree, after than that the thing i DONT like at all is the sound on that EMG, fucking sterile, without middle frequencies... really i hate this PU, so i am thinkig to send it back.. i mean guitar is awesome builded , really, but why they didnt put the ABQ? i also tring the AB boost, useless till you want muddy sound full of useless exxtra gain, no good ! so if you spend almost 2k would you like swap pick up and elettronics after a week ? no. guitar is BEAUTIFUL , also the case is good, i love this case, is not really soft. it good , its really good to me having that case. no pain moving my guiutar form my car and my studio, its lighter and protect the guitar very well. but i dont like the 81 .
i forget , SS fret is the reason that really convinced me to buy it, i had 2k 3k guitar years ago, and so ? no one of the had SS fret and man , if i play constantly a guitar my fret usually last 1 years, and in the middle of the years i usually need to fix them leveling and recrowing some of them. i hate nikel silver frets, they never last a lot to me. and having an ESP Sv 2007 ( my first love pro guitat ) that was a pain in the ass at that time spendind 300 400 to refret it. and that was put in the market for 2k back then , so if i sonsider that with les than 2k i got really exellent build guitar with ss fret the only thing that drive me mad is that 81 with the useless boost and the FR 1000 shitty arm , and as always the volume pot in the middle of the balls as every fuking fender guitar :) but this is my personal idee, volume pot must put out of the way since there is no tone ,selector ecc ecc, there a lot of space there put them away , i think if ill keep it i'll put alexi boost by closing the volume pot and putting the ABQ push pull over the EMG AB

Why do you think Korean/Chinese/Indonesian/Indian guitars are cheaper than let's say Japan, USA, EU made guitars?
One big factor: labour costs.
Second thing we're talking about less expensive hardware for tuners & Floyd rose here.
Also you can see trends of costs of guitars depending on where they are made. So in general the Indian guitars are less expensive than the Korean made, those are again usually cheaper than Japan made guitars and so on.
Which would mean that a big discrepancy between "land of origin" and price compared to other companies mean that the guitar manufacturer probably put the price higher due to other factors rather than labour costs and manufacturing costs on those countries.
TLDR: because you pay Jackson more profit, you're not paying more for the manufacturing and labour costs, its import which means Jackson is ordering that themselves and "resell" them.

Pickup settings are nonsense indeed and the top mount bridge might be a bad feature.

Indian made Jackson guitars suck really badly what comes to finishing touches. I have Indian made RR24 and im going to use my power sanding tool on it. Very uneven surface on front side of the damn guitar of all places😅

The inlays and the fretboard itself look very cheap, like they went out of their way to get the ugliest piece of ebony they could find. Maybe it looks better in person, but all the pictures that are out right now make it look like a budget build rather than a $2000 instrument.
The inlay material is pearloid...so yeah standard material. Nothing fnacy, thats true. Fretboard looks a bit weird. but hey thats promo shoots. I guess they had a lot of light there. And yes, i agree with you, doestn loook löike a high end build on those pictures. I guess we need to wait for "real" ones.

Well...kinda it is.
Sometimes you get fooled by companies too. For example Edwards guitars who are "made in Japan".
They are not. The whole woodwork, paint job and everything is done on Chinese factory, only gets assembled and QC at the ESP factory in Tokyo. That's why it's "made in japan". The part where you can actually make bad mistakes is in paint job and woodwork, not assembly.
And you wouldn't say that Edwards guitars have bad quality, would you?
At the end of the day it all comes down to quality control, decent hardware and enough money/budget to build an instrument.
For example some of the late 2000 bc rich series were made in China, for example the Ironbird pro.
They are phenomenal guitars with very great specs. Check what they were retailing for and check what they sell now. Just because they are actually that good and well made....in China.
In the end it all comes down to the instrument itself. And yes, on a big scale Japan made guitars are on average way better since alot of Chinese guitars are supposed to be cheap guitars on the market. That doesn't mean that Chinese, Korean, Indonesian or wherever the guitar may come from is able to kick a Japan's guitars butt. Because they can.
I don't get the issue with the soft shell case towards the end of the video. I got one when I ordered my 2020 RRT Rhoads and that case is phenomenal and is built better than my hard shell case for my other rhoads guitar. The hard case interior is literally peeling off while my soft shell is still perfect. It's not soft like you and individuals claim it is. Not sure if you actually own one but It's actually pretty solid and is built well. I think it'sone of those things where you shouldn't have an opinion on until you used it. I love it mkre than my hard shell case which is made is horrible quality. Good video but that's my issue with your take on the case. I love mine
Don't get me wrong here. I'm not talking about the specific case but generally and I'm not talking about the safety of the case. There are three main factors why I dislike softshell cases.
First. They are as expensive in production and sales as a case. The resell value if you don't want to use it is basically zero. Nobody searches especially for soft Shell cases. Try to find used soft Shell cases, if you find any, they will be cheap af. If you actually like them, that's the perfect bang for the buck.
Second thing is that they are hardly to clean and the outside fabric wears down fast. I know how my cases look like after one season of touring and the soft Shell cases don't really survive that. Beer, rain, mud, dirt, wear and tear due to sliding and pushing/dragging into transport. I need to fix up and clean cases more than I want to and fabric coated soft Shell cases are then a pain to clean.
Third reason is that they are usually bigger (wider) and harder to stack while transporting.
That's it. I'm not talking about quality or that there is no use for them. It's personal preference and the fact that they are hard to sell when you don't want them . I totally get your point!
