The NEW Jackson Alexi Laiho Signature From The Past
We need to talk. Jackson dropped this earlier this year and it seems like its the new unofficial Alexi Laiho Signature Model from the past.
Something that we've alö been waiting for? I guess not since there are a lot of people raging about it and some are very happy. But where does this anger comes from? And why do the specs seem off but they are not? And why Jackson missed out on a lot of opportunities.
The only thing that is missing is actually children of bodom, sinergy or Alexis name printed on the back of the guitar.
Lets discuss the whole release and tell me what you think about this.
Its kind of a weird gear reviews too since its not even a review because you cant buy it yet but then again the gear is actually a bit odd...i dont know, I just put it in the playlist now.

    i bought it. i have this RR here right now, the neck is little bit tilted , very few degree so that even if you have top mounted FR you can pull it up a bit, really its not a problem to me, it works ! the arm is the shitty arm of every FR1000, a lot of play and noise even if you tighten it a lot. there is a play in that hole , it is not like the FR original that you have no play , the FRO arm fit perfectly in the arm hole ! anyway i know i am repeating this but the surprise is that i couldnt never image the neck was a bit tilted , like guitars with tunomatic for example, but very very few degree, after than that the thing i DONT like at all is the sound on that EMG, fucking sterile, without middle frequencies... really i hate this PU, so i am thinkig to send it back.. i mean guitar is awesome builded , really, but why they didnt put the ABQ? i also tring the AB boost, useless till you want muddy sound full of useless exxtra gain, no good ! so if you spend almost 2k would you like swap pick up and elettronics after a week ? no. guitar is BEAUTIFUL , also the case is good, i love this case, is not really soft. it good , its really good to me having that case. no pain moving my guiutar form my car and my studio, its lighter and protect the guitar very well. but i dont like the 81 .

    • @cris_viga_loca
      @cris_viga_loca 21 день тому

      i forget , SS fret is the reason that really convinced me to buy it, i had 2k 3k guitar years ago, and so ? no one of the had SS fret and man , if i play constantly a guitar my fret usually last 1 years, and in the middle of the years i usually need to fix them leveling and recrowing some of them. i hate nikel silver frets, they never last a lot to me. and having an ESP Sv 2007 ( my first love pro guitat ) that was a pain in the ass at that time spendind 300 400 to refret it. and that was put in the market for 2k back then , so if i sonsider that with les than 2k i got really exellent build guitar with ss fret the only thing that drive me mad is that 81 with the useless boost and the FR 1000 shitty arm , and as always the volume pot in the middle of the balls as every fuking fender guitar :) but this is my personal idee, volume pot must put out of the way since there is no tone ,selector ecc ecc, there a lot of space there put them away , i think if ill keep it i'll put alexi boost by closing the volume pot and putting the ABQ push pull over the EMG AB

    My lazy ass has a question, little bit offtopic'ish. I saw a couple times this "RSP 2400 Hush/Enhancer/Exciter " thingy and if i understand correctly, if this unit was used by Alexi it was for add extra bottom end or bottom + high freqs (seems like gp-1000 dont really need em ). Can someone explain me plz?

    • @Dignityofficial_
      @Dignityofficial_ Місяць тому

      Yes, that was exactly what that was used for, basically put more bottom end. Well i try to understand that too but heres the thing. On recordings and being in a room with this amp, it lacks bottom end...if you solo it. So the dry amp with no backings sounds a bit weak and not full enough. You can work against that with such device or mod the preamp regarding this "issue". But being live with that thing constantly i can tell you it lacks basically nothing. I play in one band where we are 3 prople, 1 guitar, drums and bass. My tone is super thick and vutting tgrough everything without being a pain in your ears in the higher freq. Basically where I want to be, in the lower to upper mids, the bass contemplates that so everybody got his spot regarding freqs. Playing it dry though, yes, it lacks bottom end, it literally doesnt have that. Do i miss it? no, do i think if its necessary? no, not in the live or studio situations. At home or when youre not in a full mix? yes.

    The front and back GP-1000s pictured at 7:00 and elsewhere are mine and from photos in the GP-1000 article I wrote for Premier Guitar magazine in 2010. I obtained my first GP-1000 years prior when Reb Beach’s guitar tech, Dave L. gave it to me. That set me on collecting these and that of course is when I noticed the differences. The terms such as “transitional” are mine as I didn’t know what else to call it. As far as I know, Lee didn’t have any specific names. It’s possible there are variants unknown to me. Reb’s GP-1000 was used on the Winger demos and is odd that it has no foot-switching capability and the station for a relay is empty. Lee only commented, “you got an early one.” GP-1000 870001 was confirmed by Lee as the first shipped. I picked up the trail of use of an Aphex Aural Exciter in conjunction from the Metal Method “SOUNDS” private lesson cassette issued circa 1987. At that time, the most recent version was the Type C, which does not have “Big Bottom.” That came later. Thus, the obvious reason at the time was to add more harmonic content. It might be possible to swap out the 250k bass potentiometer for 1meg. One problem: this is a push-pull pot of course, so you would have to find a push-pull pot of the correct dimensions, replace the carbon path wafer with one from a 1meg pot or forgo having the push-pull option with a normal pot. I experimented with a 22k pot for the Midrange and it works well. I think I also modified one with 825/.68uF on the cathode of V1A and it may be in an article interior photo. Needless to say, the GP-1000 was designed for that era’s Shred and Hair Metal. Obviously, it’s not entirely suited without tweaks and modifications for modern Metal like say, Nile or Abnormality. Probably would work as is for Abbath. It’s worth noting, and I discussed this in the article, that the ‘88 replaces the ‘87 Fender style tone stack with .1uF for the midrange and .22uF for the bass. This lowers the center frequency of these controls of course. The Mid Shift switches various capacitors in parallel with the treble capacitor. If I recall correctly, the values are 220pF, 470pF, 1000pF, 2200pF, 4700pF. When I first heard the ‘88, I was convinced that this was the sound of the Loudness - “Jealousy” EP. It was so spot-on and Lee is thanked in the liner notes. That being said, Loudness Supervisor George Azuma told me Akira’s tone on that release was from a Jose Arrendondo-modified Marshall. Still, it sounds so similar that I am left wondering. If you want to hear that, listen to the vinyl or original CD pressing for your example, but not the remastered CD. I wouldn’t say I have had as much trouble coaxing a good tone out of the GP-1000. I’ve used a variety of overdrive pedals over the years, plus a Boss SP-1 Spectrum to get a bit more midrange. I’ve found replacing V1 with a NOS Mullard 12AX7 will really enhance its tone. In all these years, I have never had a component failure. Interesting video. Subscribed!

    • @Dignityofficial_
      @Dignityofficial_ Місяць тому

      Man, I've read that countless times throughout the years! Sorry for the late reply but i need a couple minutes to answer that and i think I will even mention this somewhere in a future video. Yes, those are the pictures directly from that article. Thats awesome! I wonder how many GP-1000s belonged to artists that were using that and then just sold them at some point. I remember I bought one of mine from Lasse Lammert who used it a lot in studio, probably theres still some videos of him using that on youtube. That is so funny that those terms were coming from you. I always wondered where they came from since for me there was never a clear cut or structure. But then again, that only dawned on me when i started to have more and more and opened them up or found pictures of opened one and none were like the other. But that term wasnt that wrong, like i said, there are 88 mods in 87 housings with back plates to cover and 87...its just hard to draw lines. I think Lee just produced them, changed them on the run, got supplied by different manifacturers or some musician wanted something special and he just continued to do so. I cant count how many variances i found throughout the years and even changes that were done (eg caps) were revisited and changed back in later models, then brought back as the ride continued. Its kinda chaotic. Except your picture, Ive never encountered one without a foot switch. But it makes sense that it was added and then never scrapped again, so I guess there are not many of those. The Exciter thing. A thing i never understood, at least for the marshall mod. In a full mix or live situation you actually dont need it. Then again, I'll never know what those old concerts, PA's and recordings sounded like. I might've made sense at the time. Swapping the pot and playing with the EQ is imo kinda pointless if you're trying to go for high gain sounds (what its not intended for)...or well...or lets say to put the GP-1000 to the max gain. Since the EQ is in front of the gain stage, the EQ change even with a 1meg wont make that much of an audible difference. I'm always thinking that through in terms of context so in a live situatiuon or on recordings. On recording you want to make space for other instruments anyway so you will literally high pass that. Live you basically want to do the same to make space for other instruments and keep the low mids and bass tight instead of muddy from a distorted guitar. I just cant think of an environment where this is actually needed....except you're practicing alone at home or you focus on what is coming out of your speakers in a dry environment without backings. Then maybe, but again, it would be a lot of a hassle for basically a slight change that you could achieve with eg different speakers. I never thought of modding anything regarding the mids, but fair point! "I think I also modified one with 825/.68uF on the cathode of V1A and it may be in an article interior photo." I have one with that exact mod. Also those values were changed throughout too. I checked, even I have ones with this value and different, i would need to check now though. But...I have to say, theres little audible differences except youre in a dry environment. "The Mid Shift switches various capacitors in parallel with the treble capacitor. If I recall correctly, the values are 220pF, 470pF, 1000pF, 2200pF, 4700pF." I never checked, but it wouldnt suprise me if there were changes over the years lmao. At this point i dont trust anything anymore regarding "stock specs" The jealousy EP...I need to check that! "I wouldn’t say I have had as much trouble coaxing a good tone out of the GP-1000. I’ve used a variety of overdrive pedals over the years, plus a Boss SP-1 Spectrum to get a bit more midrange." Maybe because I had always a very specific sound in mind when I was trying to dial in anything and nothing is dialing so I need to swap components around the preamp. But that might be true for a lot of people too. They want to recreate a sound for example and are not really able to "out of the box" since the gp-1000 is not versatile at all if you set it into overdrive. Putting something in front of that to get more midrange kills me though lmao. I replaced the tubes of all of them to different manifacturers and also compared to the stock ones and so on. Ive never heard or felt any difference in sound and since i basically go into the preamp with an even hotter signal, it doesnt really matter. What matters though is voltage. The amount of gain and "thickness" i would say changes drastically with every amount of voltage that drops. "In all these years, I have never had a component failure." Youre lucky. Im basically touring with those and from soundcheck to end of concert they are on average running for about 6 hours straight. Mine failed alot. Usually mid concerts, either the fuse blew and some component died or there was just simply no sound anymore. I have 4 in constant use and every failed at some point. And i have the feeling everytime something else breaks haha. But I'm learning and i start to eliminate things that break in my other preamps as soon as i know what broke this time in another one. Most issues I encountered: - dying tubes (jesus, that thing eats tubes). probably also has to do with the environments im in all the time, live, travelling, low voltages, constant running and heat. - burned out rectifier circuits/dying diodes (probably aging faster due to low voltages live) - caps and bias cap. Probably due to age, after replacing them I never have a problem with them again. I guess only a problem in live environments due to constant heat/operating temperatures and low voltages...and then the age. I dont think that any of those problems would occour in home environments, theres just too little stress on them. Thank you for your comment! I really appreciate that!

      We can also discuss all the Les Paul signatures 👀 or all the Paul signatures... oh wait SG signatures. I know its called rhandy Rhoades for a reason. I even recall the whole story about this guitar and the Jackson company but it's by now just a shape. Signature guitars nowadays are anyway really really inflationary. Standard guitars get a different color. Signature. Nothing is personalized but somebody wanted to have a guitar named after him. Bam, signature. It's getting ridiculous at this point anyway regarding signatures. Oh btw. Jackson didn't invent it...it was literally the charvel shop who dropped this guitar with the name Jackson on it named after well... somebody who literally managed charvel at this point. Wasn't the first prototype Jackson, but the first guitar that launched the company.

      The inlay material is pearloid...so yeah standard material. Nothing fnacy, thats true. Fretboard looks a bit weird. but hey thats promo shoots. I guess they had a lot of light there. And yes, i agree with you, doestn loook löike a high end build on those pictures. I guess we need to wait for "real" ones.

    I played the Mark Heylum at Guitar Center and was super pumped for it. It had bubbles on the neck by the frets, tremolo was corroded looking and crazy high action and just shifty looking. Definitely crushed my hopes of buying Jackson

      Oof. Yeah but this is exactly the experience I had last year. It's more or less a gamble. And that's not how it should be.

    I think it's meant more for boosting your gain for leads or for using with lower gain amps (like Marshall JCMs), at least that's how I'd use it with active pickups.

      Try it! It's absolutely unusable. At least imo. But if there's any good use for anybody, I'm not even complaining and accept it if theres a good use to that. I just can't think of a good use, not even in this scenario since a passive pickup and a boost would've been enough to overdrive any amp to max distortion.
