  • Quick tip of how to hook up and run a pair of inverter generators using parallel cables. Link below for these WEN 2000 watt generators and parallel kit that I use and have been very happy with. The below links are affiliate links so there is a possibility that I could receive a small commission if you choose to use these links.
** be sure to check owners manual if economy mode needs to be turned OFF while running parallel. Different manufacturers recommend different settings**

Max wattage with that parallel kit is 3600W, 30 amps 120v. I have the earlier generation yellow Wen parallel kit that I run with my yellow Wen generators. They're awespme. Have used them twice now to power the house through a xfer switch.

Finally someone who just shows me how to hook this dang thing up. :) Thanks so much for a good common sense tutorial with great basic answers and down to nuts and bolts right away. Oh ya, GREAT tip on the wing nuts. Headed to Lowes now. LOL.....thanks again! PS got a sub.

Do both gens have to be the same wattage and brand? or can you mix brands and watts?

You can get adapters for that champion to parallel them with the Wen

I have the Wen yellow plug in kit, when I turn on the switches on the kit it overloads the generators.

OK here’s a question that nobody seems to have addressed , that I watched several videos perhaps you can answer this question. What if I have let’s say a Ryobi 1800/2300 Watt inverter generator and then a Predator 3000 W inverter generator. Do the generators have to be an exact pair match? Or do they only have to be a match in the wattage. Or do they have to be both a brand and watt match inverter generator? So let’s say I have the Ryobi 1800/2300 W generator for when I have really small stuff running and then the 3000/3500 W predator generator for stuff that’s a little bit bigger, and then when I have to run a sharp tool that draws quite a bit of whites I want to add the two of them together because the 3000/3500 W predator keeps tripping it’s breaker when a compressor starts up can I add the 1800/2300 W Ryobi to it to come up with 4800/5800 W ?

I’ll try to answer as best I can, but I’m by no means an expert. I had the same questions you had and did a lot of research. What I found is (but have not tried it yet) is you can parallel diff wattage generators together, but you’ll end up essentially only pairing the wattage of the lesser generator. So a 3000w gen and an 1800w gen paralleled together would only in reality be giving you a max of 1800x1800 max watts. You can parallel diff brands together though, as I have done that with my WEN and Powerhorse generator, and it worked fine.
I’m sure there are internet experts and electricians out here that will have different answers, but this was the best I could find when I was researching this last year.
Also, check out “Gavin’s Garage” channel. I believe he posted a video about paralleling two different wattage generators together.

Do you remember what wingnut size you needed? Just tried 1/4-20s and couldn't get them to thread. FYI, i learned that if the ground connections are solid, the overload protection trips.

Sorry, but I can’t remember. 1/4 x 20 did not work for me either. It took a couple of trips to get the right ones for me.

Is that plug you used necessary? Im confused and for sure a novice but...Wens website says it the kit ups the wattage of either generatorcs panel outlets.. What cable is that, I want to make sure i get the right one if it is indeed necessary for max wattage. Thank you !
