Wow I didn't even think of using pots for the plants. That's perfect! I was worried about how much it would cost to change all the substrate, but pots fix that. Awesome video, thanks a lot. Subscribed!
Thank You Blake for this video on the Amazon sword! One of my favorite plants! (Well they're all my favorite plants 😂😂 any plant that can grow in an aquarium is my favorite 😂😂) seriously though, you know I watch a lot of channels with a lot of great species plant spotlights and your down to earth experience, in your own fishroom, is the most helpful information I've found! I really appreciate it and your channel is one of the best around! I hope you have a very blessed day my friend 🙏🌱🐟🌱💚
I just moved 4 of them from a 75 gallon planted tank to a 270 gallon goldfish tank. I put them in 4 inch cubes of rock wool that I stuffed homemade root tabs into and put the cubes into 6 inch terracotta pots that I’ll fill in with gravel and top with bigger rocks that my big goldfish can’t swallow. I really hope the roots will take to the rock wool. These plants are stunning but they are each about 18 inches tall with the root ball and a foot wide. I’m keeping my fingers crossed! I love these plants. They are just stunning!
I had to uproot my amazon sword because it got black beard algae ALL OVER it so i uprooted it, treated the algae w carbon which it HATED (all the leaves died) but before all the leaves died, I planted it in a terra-cotta pot (w/smooth small river pebbles), put it back in the tank & injected a little fertilizer every night. All the leaves died but new green leaves started growing in, thankfully, from the middle 🙏❤️🤩 took a while but I wasn’t gonna throw it away til I was absolutely SURE it was completely dead (because I love my plants 😪💔) 🙏🙏👏👏💐💐 thanks for all the info you put out there!! ❤️❤️🙏🙏👏👏🤩🤩
This is my first aquarium plant and it’s growing huge! I’ve used root tabs and liquid fertilizer in eco complete substrate. Growing great, really nice shade of green.
I love swords but my favorite sword is actually E. paleofolius it is a lighter color and much larger not the Amazon sword. It is not a commonly kept aquarium plant but it takes up about half of my 29 and some leaves stretch to the other side of it. Are red melon swords any harder than normal swords? I want to try keeping one.

I really like these plants I have two giant ones and have enjoyed watching them grow and I’ve even had little ones pop off of it like you said and i don’t have special soil or fertilizer I just use crushed coral and fish poop it works great
Do you have them in the substrate or in pots ? I the pot method works better cause they get more that way, that's why I was looking to see if that would work.
The plant Amazon Sword likes flow so plant them in the direction of your outlet, my Amazon swords have thrown many new runners with new plants, I grow them in sand
Any tips for growing them in sand? I have a 30 gallon with a single Amazon Sword planted at the corner of my tank in front of my filter pickup tube, and currently no substrate, considering sand only, no soil beneath. Two small fish (one Japanese Wakin, one Yamabuki Gold Ogon Koi) 🪴🫧
My sword is growing like krazy but not sending out runners. I put root tabs and liquid ferts but no runner. Can anyone tell me what's going on or is there different types of swords
@@BlakesAquatics great, I have prepare few for my aulonocara tank. can you recommend floating plant for high flow water or do you have a video of it? thanks again, very helpful.
Been in my guppy tank which is now a 2 bichir fish tank only ever had gravel and barley give them anything and they have been thriving for 2 years … way too big at the moment actually I’m about to have cut and replant or sell some

I planted mine with a 1/4 inch layer of fine garden soil under a sand substrate. After a few weeks I’ve got a bright green Amazon WEED! 😂
🤣 thats awesome
@iron fae, How deep a layer of sand do you use for the Amazon sword?
@@emihayashi7725
About two inches works. I usually plant them towards the back of the tank.
You are using Walstad or Fisher Fish method do you? Nice
i mean Father Fish

What size pots do you use?
Nice plant for beginners.🌿👍😊😄
Absolutely 👍
Very good idea shared (about keeping it a a pot). Thanks.
*Blake's Aquatics* Really great and good content on your channel✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨That was GREAT✨
Hi what do I plant my swords in the bottom of the tank
Thanks mate👍
No problem 👍
This was super helpful thank you
Great video brother 😉👍
Was bout to get some amazon swords but now ik some stuff about it
What root tabs brands would u recommend because my Amazon swords are slowly dying.
I like seachem tabs
@@BlakesAquatics oh ok thanks
Do I have to use root taps if I have my Amazons planted in Fluval’s volcanic substrate?
If your substrate has nutrients just add one after 6 months when they are depleted
Thanks for the info Blake! I'm curious what do you use for substrate in your pots?
usually a mixture of gravel and used ADA amazonia, anything will be fine though with some decent root tabs
very good, thank you.
Love it, one of my favs

I've got plastic slotted aquarium safe pots and am relocating the Amazon sword. How much gravel should I put in the pot before planting the sword?
My sword is growing like krazy but not sending out runners. I put root tabs and liquid ferts but no runner. Can anyone tell me what's going on or is there different types of swords
runners can also be a defence mechanism sometimes, maybe it is more mature or comfortable now.
great vid
very helpful
can it survive in high flow water if I'm using wave maker?
Yeah its a good one for high flow due to the strong leaves and dense roots
@@BlakesAquatics will it be happy on a pot than a substrate?

@@BlakesAquatics great, I have prepare few for my aulonocara tank. can you recommend floating plant for high flow water or do you have a video of it? thanks again, very helpful.
@@aulonocaraandanubias unfortunately floating plants and high flow dont really mix. Best bet would be hornwort or wisteria in my opinion
These things take so many root tabs it’s crazy
so true
Can this plant grow out in gravel?
Yes with root tabs
Do they need to be completely underwater in my pond can you tell me thanks
No they can grow semi submerged
seeing that the pots aren't the best looking for an aquarium.. any other suggestions on how to safely plant the swords?
Thats subjective i guess but to plant normally just follow the same steps but in substrate. Root tabs at the base whenever they yellow
@@BlakesAquatics will the expanding root system interfere with my gravel vacuuming? ty
I love the look of aged terracotta 😍😍😍
How long should I leave the light on?
8 to 10 hrs
@@BlakesAquatics ok thanks!
My Amazon sword has sprouted a flower bud out of the water. Should I submerge it so that it grows pups?
Sure, i would if i wanted to make more
do dwarf shrimps like them?
Do they need a heater?
No not at all

Can you grow these aquatic plants as is just to have them? Don't want to mess with an aquarium.
Of course 👍
may i ask you a favor, Do we need to add liquid fertilizer for amazon sword? or just "feed" them with root tabs?
Just root tabs

👍👍
I grow then attached to timber
Just use aquarium co op products

Hmm i dont think so mate, the roots really want to be submerged and spread
