- Taking care of the Amazon sword plant starts by giving the plants enough lighting. These plants can grow anywhere from one to 2 feet tall so make sure you put it in a tall enough aquarium. You also want to give the Amazon sword a nutrient rich substrate because it feeds mainly from the roots. The Amazons sword can grow in gravel and sand, but it’s gonna be a much slower growth because there’s zero nutrients in that substrate.

The Amazon sword prefers a higher lighting on your fish aquarium, but you can also get away with a lower lighting, but the plant will just grow a lot slower. Make sure when planting your Amazon sword to plant it in the middle of your aquarium because they tend to grow and fan out their leaves, and can be an 8 inch span from side to side from where you planted. This is a pretty large plant for the aquarium.

The Amazon sword is my favorite aquarium plant because it has so much green to it and it has large luscious leaves. I feel that it is the best aquarium plant to add because you can get away at any level of lighting and still have an awesome huge green plant in your fish tank.

@@vannarasam3701 it’s actually going pretty well (although half the time it sticks out the water a bit 💀) some of the leaves are dying again but I’ve heard they do that and there are fresh bright green ones growing from the base of the plant

He was right about the PetSmart Swords. They completely died back jumped the gun and ordered 3 more online and they died back. Was so bummed out then a week later was 5 leaves in 5 different places where I planted them. Now my 55 gallon is home to 5 baby swords who will grow massive. Using gravel and a Undergravel filter, and they be dark green a beautiful. Can't wait to see them Florish just know the rope fish, angels and Blue acara gonna love them

green & root tabs every month cause I alternate them
1 month I use easy green next month root tabs, that
seems to do a good job for my plants & a 50 watt
led flood light for 6 hrs. every day.

Add root tabs to the gravel/sand set ups, simple fix. Don't need soil.
My Amazon sword refuses to change from their regular leaves to aquatic leaves. Am I doing something wrong?

I bought some soil and put it in a pot and plopped an Amazon sword in it, after a couple of weeks some of the leaves are yellow, I bought root tabs. Hopefully it works

That's the Pothos plant and if you get it going it sucks nitrates right out making water changes only necessary if trace minerals are running out😅

hey so i have an amazon sword thats all going well, but its got a stem that looks like its possibly a flower, and my fishtank doesnt have an open roof, should i let it keep growing or cut it off?

I've stayed away from the Amazon Sword plants since I've heard that Bristle nose plecos can damage their thin leaves. Have you had any experience with that?

I have 4 bristle nosed plecos in a 100 gallon cichlid tank planted with swords. I do not have issues with them damaging them when cleaning then.
I put a full size sword into my gravel and sand tank. It never died back, 3 days later had 2 new leaves. Ive been feeding it osmocote + in gel capsules for over a year and it has a new leaf every 2 days.
