Typically, people buy exotics as a flaunt of their wealth. But you Ed, you buy them for love for the cars. That's what I love. You own these works of art and drive them as intended. You care about the stories and history of the cars rather than the idea of only owning one. That's what I love, and that's why I make an exception to my "no exotic-car UA-camrs" rule.

I drive a very expensive car (at least at MSRP) that is very fast and I have worked my butt off to be able to afford it. The cheapest example of this car in the country at the time of my purchase was a red one, so I got that red one. People assume Im a pr*ck in my red Italian car, but I only drive the car for me, no one else - truth is I’m in love with the engineering of my vehicle and just everything about it. I have learned to not care what other people think of me in life, but the assumption’s other people make about others are pretty sad at times. Knowing Ed is the kinda guy he is after watching him for years, and seeing him in his red dream car reminds me a lot of myself… people are going to assume a lot about him. A lot of us are just humble enthusiasts.

When I see a bizzare project car, or something obscure but not worth much money, or a heavy built track car it’s immediately obvious that it was done out of passion, something that the average person would think just looks dumb and is uncomfortable. While the average supercar owner simply has so much money they’re just spending it for the sake of spending and just bought something that looks expensive. The 2nd gen NSX and 5th gen dodge viper were both brilliant peices of engineering that were complete commercial failures. Because the words Dodge and Acura mean nothing to the majority of the super car owners, who only bought them to flex.
It's endlessly fascinating to me that virtually no car worth over a couple million could safely and easily make it across the country, but any $25k compact could do that trip 30 times. It seems these beautiful cars don't drive. They just shine, and sound awesome
in the 2m+ range a new Chiron could do it and a new Countach, that's about it. The Veyron was the first on the new Bugatti platform and that thing has been abused by previous owners

Yeah. Watching this video reminded me why I hate “supercars” so much. I’m an engineer who works closely with oem car developers. Their owners just suck. They push their state of the art cars less than I push an old cobalt SS turbo. (Not to mention have their performance severely compromised to satisfy douchey flex lords, every bit of comfort makes them so nuch worse on the place they actually belong: tracks). Their cars are completely wasted and will never even touch the tracks that years and years of hard work built them for. The highest rpm they’ll ever see is revving in a city center before cat calling underaged women, the first time the tires ever spin it’ll be crashed into a gaurd rail because no supercar owner has ever pushed a car to its limits before or even knows how handling works at all. Just simply bought the most expensive personality replacement.

What is amazing is that 13 years ago 1000 hp factory car cost you $2M or so to acquire and crazy maintenance. Soon you can get 1000 hp in a corvette, which will be more reliable and certainly cost much less to fix and maintain. Amazing progress.

@pffyespff The GT350 has 1,300 whp and a super advanced Motec traction control system. The only reason it's spinning tires is because Gavin is still running the stock suspension. Once he gets the new suspension put in, that car will HOOK.

Congrats. This story reminds of of a musician friend of mine who is a huge van halen fan. From the time he was 11 he'd lusted after an EVH "Frankenstrat" Special guitar but he never had the money for one, and every time he came close to affording one something inevitably came up that required the money (kids being born, illness, house repairs, car replacement) So for his 35th birthday his wife decided too surprise him with one, he literally wept with joy when he opened the box and saw it.
