Who doesn’t love black womens hair? It’s amazing!!! When a black woman takes good care of her hair it’s the best type of hair. I have naturally wavy hair but it first comes in curly and then goes straight. It’s nice having options but us white girls are just wavy haired fuzz balls. I need to take a page out of a black girls hair playbook on straightening. Brad is not wrong when he says white girls don’t know how to straighten their hair. Black women need to help us out 😆 we are a damn mess.

As a Natural hair black woman, watching this UA-camr give us our flowers is soooo greatly appreciated ❤ not even members of our own (black) community appreciates our natural kinky, coily curly hair. It's looked at as "bad hair". We have been so brainwashed by whites over centuries telling us how ugly our skin is or how ugly and "Nappy" our hair is. We were taught that biracial chicks hair or white people's hair is considered "good hair" it's this way of thinking that made me give up relaxers going on 13 years now. It's longer than it's ever been. When I was relaxing it, it wouldn't grow past a certain length and that's probably because of the years of chemical burns from the relaxers. Now my hair is waist length and it's amazing 😍 I would NEVER go back to relaxers. I think all black women should ditch the creamy crack and go natural. It's insane that I get more compliments wearing my hair big and curly from white people than I do in my own community. Even my mom said my hair is "Nappy" and needs to be relaxed. Once it grew out all big and curly, she wanted to go natural too. 😂😂😂 we gotta start loving what God and our parent gave us. The brainwashing has to stop.

I feel like the silicone is exactly the reason why Black people started loving Chi. It helps the hair lay flatter without feeling too heavy and seems to leave a really nice shine and protection behind after the silk press; that "coating" you mentioned. The downside is too much of it will leave your hair really weighed down and oily. But Black people don't typically have to worry about oiliness and build up as quickly especially type 4 hair hence why we can normally go longer between washings too. I'd imagine a "coating" on someone's hair who has to wash it off everyday would seem unnecessary but for us it helps that silk press stay silky a little longer. They're also easily available at the drug store unlike a lot of other brands and relatively affordable for your average person. Especially if you use it sparingly.

I’ve used Chi Silk Infusion for over a decade and have it to thank for the health of my hair. In college I ironed my hair every day (yea I had the energy) and it still grew down to my waist with no splits. I’m white but my hair is curly, frizzy and dry without something to seal in moisture. I tried to find something fragrance free that’s similar but may have to go back to it. Trying to grow my hair back healthy after bleaching the shit out of it and don’t wanna take my chances. lol

I call Chi and Super Skinny “liquid crack” to my clients and tell them exactly that. Too little it doesn’t help, too much and you’ve gotta wash and restart. And honestly other than a treatment (like the one she used) and a simple product like the chi or super skinny, maybe a heat protectant if your product doesn’t have one built in, that’s all you need. I know Brad is a product junkie but that’s exactly what’s gonna cause stiff hair once you press it. Hence the phrase “Silk”, gotta be silky and flowing, which means less product and better technique.

Fellow poc with curly hair here, I also loved Chi products when I was trying to get my hair to grow back after years of damage from straightening with a flat iron. I bought their straightener, heat protectant, silk infusion and the shampoo/conditioner. I still use everything except the shampoo/conditioner. It saved my hair and gave me my length back as well. The silk infusion (maybe from the silicone?) really helps keep the hair smooth and frizz free. I’ll go to fix my curls on day three or so and after running a bit through my hair after it makes a huge difference. Hope to try your products at some point 😊

She basically did a keratin treatment on top of an older keratin treatment after 3-6 months. She did a Brazilian blowout and not a silk press. I know because she applied chemicals with gloves which is the second step after stripping the hair. 🤫

I have 4a hair but I’ve never been to a salon and have only given myself silk presses for years. The best technique I’ve found for silk presses is to start with your hair WET (it creates a much silkier blowout from the get go than starting from dry) and use a round boar bristle brush (you want to get it as straight as possible but I love volume and body so doing a traditional round brush blowout up away from the head gives me that) to blowout the hair in small sections to get it as straight as possible, then I go in with a flat iron around 350 to really get it nice and straight and shiny

19:54 as for your comment on “does the hair need to be as straight as possible” it all depends on the individual and how coarse their hair is, how thick, how long and it’s really whatever works for your hair. Some people can barely blow dry it and have a good silk press, and some people need that bone straight blowout in order to get a good silk press, so it all depends on the individual. Btw love these videos 🤎

I grew up next door to my best friend (still best friend) who is black and I remember going to her house and her mom put a hot comb in the oven (or maybe stove 🤔), that was some (terrifying) G shit right there. I remember she would teach her how to do her hair in all these intricate steps versus my mom just did my hair for me. As a kid I never thought much about the care that was put in to her hair, honestly I just loved when her mom included me and use the same rubber bands (with those plastic balls) and put little braids in my hair 😊

I haven't straightened my hair in a long time but, when I used to regularly straighten it, I didn't focus on blow drying it smooth because the flat iron seemed to grip my hair better and produce smoother results when it still had texture and volume.

So from what my mama always told me, the reason we don't necessarily aim for a full on blow out when doing the silk press is to avoid excessive heat damage. I guess the idea is that if we're going to risk damaging our natural curls with a style like this, we'll apply the majority of our heat during the actual press, everything else is as minimal as possible. I think that's why we try and towel dry the hair before blow drying, and when we blow dry we only do enough to stretch it out. Once stretched, only do the minimal amount of passes with the flat iron at the lowest effective temperature. It's all about preserving our curls when we decide to go back to rocking the curls ❤❤❤ love your videos.
I'd love to see you react to people going from a silk press back to curly

People always questioned if it was real. I rarely do heat anymore but will blowdry with a denman brush the way she used her paddle and you're correct; it then makes the one iron pass possible. 👏🏿👏🏿

CHI is just the best: a little goes a long way, it's super lightweight and gets the job done- i.e., great job at preventing reversion in humidity 😉(w/low product build-up)... been using it for over a decade. I hope they never discontinue their line, very popular. I haven't found anything that works like CHI, it may exist but I'll never know.
