    Love that Jerry is carrying it on but nothing will replace Layne. Jerry knows this he isn't trying to do that I think he is just trying to keep the music alive.

      And, even though most of their best songs (in my opinion at least) are from the Layne era, some of the best songs from the Duvall era are written by Duvall. "Hung on a Hook" and "Phantom Limb" from "The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here" and "So Far Under" from "Rainier Fog" are apparently all written or co-written by Duvall, and they're in my opinion some of the band's best songs from any era... Duvall is not Layne, but he's definitely no slouch either.

    This was a pretty good interview. The fans see all of the fun that bands have once they "Make it", but most of them don't see all of the hard work in the studio and on the road that it took to get there. There were probably a lot of shitty gigs where they might not have gotten paid Etc. before you see them in the big arenas and stadiums. Just watch some G-N-R videos from 1985 or so where they are playing acoustic and more people are talking than actually listening to them because at the time they were just one of a hundred bands in L.A. that were trying to make it. They weren't always rockstars

      g323g STP has no business on that list, they’re post-grunge. They weren’t on the front lines with AiC, PJ/Mother Love Bone, Soundgarden/Temple of the Dog, Green River, Melvins, etc.

    • @arthurbishop3173
      @arthurbishop3173 4 роки тому +2

      I'll pass on PJ...never liked EV's voice and always thought their music was derivative and boring.
      I like a couple of STP songs, but (like PJ) I never understood what the big deal was. SW was a great singer, and the band was technically proficient (tho invisible), but their songs (and lyrics) never made any sense to me, point of view-wise. They had no 'look' of their own and I always thought of them as just a heavy pop band.
      It was SG and AiC that were the stand out bands. I've come to appreciate KC's humor and how he put his pain into songs ('Bleach' and 'In Utero' are their best imo), but SG and AiC weren't whiney bands, and wrote songs about pain, lonliness, addiction, etc. that hit home with me. They were sorta metal, but deeper and more real than most 'metal'...and 'Dirt' is why I would choose AiC over SG, tho BMF and SU are fantastic albums.

      II hear you, and its a sensitive area... and one that the message was to not emphasise too much. Layne and Jerry started the band together, I don't think its arguable how significant he was ... as a diehard Layne fan, I have to say I was blown away by William live and I don't think its said enough how great he is. Layne was a one in a million though. :)

    • @margaretsampson2471
      @margaretsampson2471 7 років тому +9

      Thx for the reply. I agree this great music must go on.. I've only seen a few videos with William & to be fair, have never seen him live. He sounds real good but he's no Layne. Layne had a texture and passion in his voice unmatched. But that's just my opinion. :)

    • @TheVoidwithChristina

    I love this interview, and I like William Duvall BUT PLEASE DO NOT compare his "energy" to Layne Staley's. They are two totally different entities and Layne's energy is legendary.

    • @TheVoidwithChristina
      @TheVoidwithChristina  7 років тому +15

      Why would you not talk about the differences between them? Layne was a one in a million, and William is an incredible talent as well. Discussing their different energies diminishes neither. I was very dubious, as a MASSIVE AIC fan, to see them with William, and he blew me the fuck away. Layne died almost twenty years ago ... and was a tragic loss. But the rest of the band deserves to keep going and to play these songs for the world. Totally respect where you're coming from though. :)

      The Void with Christina lmao he gets credit for being a good karaoke singer. He didn't create anything. Layne created those unique vocals, melodies, and harmonies. He is just a good imitator.

    • @TheVoidwithChristina
      @TheVoidwithChristina  5 років тому +3

      They just made a brand new record, and have been making records for years. Layne died sixteen years ago. Yes, he was one of the most incredible singers to ever walk the earth, but you need to see William and this amazingly tight and talented band live before you say that the band died with him. It FUCKING DIDN'T. They are such KILLER musicians and William is a pure blood singer, and an artist, and someone not cruising slowly towards complete oblivion. Totally understand where you're coming from, I adore Layne's vocals. But bands are more than just their singers ... not to mention Jerry's a HUGE part of the vocals - he was half of the melodies and harmonies, he is just as much the heart of the band. And holy shit the AIC rhythm section?! So good. There will never be another Bon Scott, but that doesn't mean that the PAST THIRTY YEARS OF AC/DC didn't rule too.
