@@ThompsonsCoins I'm sure I would be. I have friends and family to thank for it. Got them to enter the ballot on my behalf to give me more chances of getting my hands on the set
Managed to get one this morning had to email one of my suppliers before release. But, like always everywhere with online orders all sold out within 5mins.
Thx m8! U actually made me feel a little better about missing this release, it did hurt a bit as I spent ALL of the business hours on release day and THOUSANDS of calls only to miss out. Kinda hard to collect out here in Renmark, our post office gets leftovers at best of times 😂
Considering the last set of this type was in 2018, the fact that the mint is releasing another similar set a mere 5 years later leaves me unimpressed. And the retail price of $235 is pretty high for the average punter. Regarding the honey bee coin, has anyone ever actually seen one in circulation? Can’t say I have! Anyway love your videos. Always interesting and informative. Cheers 🍻
@@haroldmclean3755 I don’t mind paying that if they go up in value, and later on I can sell it if I want to. But if the price stays the same you risk losing money. I almost didn’t buy the Planetary set because it was $180 on release. Glad I took a chance now of course. You must remember the mint does not get any part of any price increase on the secondary market. So I kind-of understand.
@@peecee1384 Me neither, I don't mind forking out the Cash either , because this will definitely increase in Value, getting hold of a very GOOD one is going to be Tricky , I just hope I can get one, rather than having to battle it out on the Secondary market, Oh yes the Planetary Coin set, What an expensive exercise that ended up for me , not just for me, many others too , lucky You 👍😂 lol
I’ve been collecting since the 80’s. So over competing with the flippers who are only in for a quick dollar. Lined up at at an Auspost this morning, first in line only to find out they had allocated all there sets to people who had pre ordered. Wtf!!! This might be the last straw for me.
Yeah, COVID collectors hyperfocusing on the coloured $2. That's all it is. I'd suggest getting the 2023 ANDA 4x $1 set before this one as the QE II $1 in that set (which is the only way to obtain a 2023 QE Mob Of Roos) have a VERY low mintage
Wonderful video Matt, wasn’t aware of this anniversary set so thanks for sharing! My chances of scoring one for myself is practically zero so will be looking forward to your review on your channel. Cheers ✌🏻😊
Great video, thanks again Matt. It would be nice if the Mint could at least employ more people for the day to answer the phones on release days? Even if it is only to tell you you have missed out and they are all sold out. It would at least be a start to showing some service and care to it’s loyal customers and may help with the frustrations. 🍻
That's a great idea Jim, although hopefully once their new website it up and running and dealers are getting more stock we will see less stress on release days :)
Thanks for sharing your information, i've learned a lot so far.. I have a question if you wouldn't mind answering. I recently purchase a 2023 50c Elizabeth Regina HM Queen Elizabeth II Commemoration Silver Proof and on the mints information they were limited to 2500. Wouldn't the serial numbers go from 0001-2500? Mine is 6xxx. Is this normal from the mint?
Hi Matt, just saw the latest video and we are lucky to have the two main mints that we have and the eternal flame and the honey bee are my two favourite $2.00 coins and agree a new two dollar coloured coin celebrating 35 years would be better 🌞
RAM may produce nice coins but l only collect them now to maintain my full collection. They are one of the most the most corrupt unaccountable government departments in the world
Yes, it is about to get silly again. Coloured $2 coins. I agree with you Matt, new designs please. This feels a little like a money grab and a lot like flogging a dead horse. I’ve noticed that Aust post did something similar with their impressions release this year. Nearly impossible to get one of each 50c PNC. I think many collectors will be a little gun shy looking at what happened to the silver Vietnam.
The impressions release was pretty excessive in terms of the volume of material they released, when I worked there it was often a case of there being 1 or 2 red hot PNCs but to do 2 seperate days of releases with thousands of dollars worth of PNCs up for sale I think they may have overshot the mark a little!
Hi Matt. Enjoyed your video mate. As an Australian coin collector currently living in the UK it is nigh on impossible for me to obtain any new issues by ringing RAM. The current time diff is 11 hours, and I can only ring on the intl number. I either ger a message saying ring back later or it comes up with the engaged signal. I have a friend who is based at the Royal Mint here in Wales and some events they have a queuing system with over 60-70000 in the queue. I noticed that the last Regina Queen Eliuzabeth II release was very sort after here in UK as well, which I found surprising. Their mintage figures were low as well....I did manage to get one carded Remembrance Day $2 "C" Coin from 2022, but had to pay $200 for that one that retailed originally at $15. This 14 coin one set will be extremely diffucult to get hold of as I'm sure RAM have reduced the numbers they have supplied their main dustrubutors?
Instead of getting upset, collectors can move to other coins and banknotes. There are hundreds of thousands to millions of coins to collect. I would love a Tesla, they are useful when you need a fire.
I am glad I kept a number UC $2 coins as spares, I dont have spares/swaps/sales of everything but it makes me feel good the ones I do have may well be in demand one day. I sell very little but who knows one day I might. The original words that I heared were to keep the coins 10 years and then check the value but I think even that is too soon. I do hope the RAM does come good with a proper working online shop for sales of all the new releases, I have almost given the RAM away due to their lack of service of late.
I would like to see a catalogue number or product number to track my purchases, making it easier to understand what I have, rather than just naming the coin/set. Is that not a reasonable request, your thoughts thanks
Great video again Matt and you called the hysteria of todays $2 14 coin set release correctly. Id love to see the Planetary Coin Set released again given its popularity and given trying to get the Mars coin for a $2 coin collection is out of reach for mere mortals :). What do you think of the RAM looking at using EQL for releases in the near future?
I have every $2 coin , except for the pure gold $2 coins from the proof gold sets,UNC, ever produced by RAM, including the 2013 individually boxed pure gold $2 Aboriginal elder,if someone would like to buy them
Hey Matt, what are your thoughts on this set's impact on the price of $2 coins in the short & long term? Will the prices stay as they are for the original year release coins & the set will quickly (for the short term) increase to whatever amount due to people missing out? Or will it cause original year release coins to lower in value?
I don't think a mintage of 35,000 is enough to have a meaningful impact on the market. Considering the original poppy had a 2 million mintage this reissue would only represent 1.75% of that original supply. I imagine the main thing these sets will do is once again draw peoples attention to coloured $2 coins and with added media coverage the market could continue to grow. As for the future, it's impossible to predict! Like I said, the original 2018 sets were initially poorly received and have gone on to become a red hot item for collectors! Thanks for the questions!
The Canadian mint puts out special 2 dollar coins (toonies) every few years with an issue of coloured and non colored versions they are always released into the wild ( circulation) my grandson loves buying rolls to hunt through
It’s going to be great for early people selling overpriced sets to newbies, but in 5 years people will realise that the value is about 10% of the initial hype prices.
Reissuing all the previous $2 designs with a 2023 date is sheer laziness on the part of the RAM. It's not as if they get any of the ridiculous profits which this will attract on the secondary market. Someone needs to do some research on why people are willing to pay such ridiculous amounts for what are largely boring $2 designs.
I think the reason is quite clear, people love collecting $2 coins because they are unique and highlight a number of historical events relating to Australia. There are also a number of collectors who enjoy the idea of their coins potentially appreciating in value over time.
As a collector of the original coins I’m all in for spending the little bit more money to get this set I did have and regret selling the 12 coin 30th anniversary set for the $600 they were going for a while ago , and with this set I’ve already Started messaging the dealers I commonly use too try and secure one for my collection so finger’s crossed.
The Royal Australian Mint is very average as far as mints go 😂 they don’t give a crap about coin collectors , they have proved that time and time again . I will stick to collecting and stacking all the beautiful Perth Mint products . The gutter rats that are only in it to resell for huge markups have ruined coin collecting in Australia .
Yep was far better when Australia Post evenly distributed products with allocations to all post offices. Now you can basically give up if your not in the Eastern States and most are on seller's, who aren't collectors side kicks.
While this is going to be a great set for new collectors, I'm passing on this one. I know it will go stupid in price but I'm a bit over all the stress of trying to obtain the latest releases. Already got the original coins & the 2018 set so that's good enough for me.
How are people already having pre sales at stupid prices and not even released yet? Another scam. It's a joke that people already have them. Why do coin shops up the price ? the shops should have pre orders for a certain amount of people. This is all going crazy only people making money are these scum bags. Yes. I have moved to collecting nicely designed $1 coins. The 2018 $1 convict era coin with the tree on it is so intricate.
I’ve been collecting the $1 coins as well , so much more variety and easy to get for the most part .
It's also nice to see a slightly larger canvas for the design on the $1 coins!
