Just got my Dynacaster! And it sounds amazing! Love it more with each day of use!

I agree 100%. I have the V7 and I'm not in the market for another broadcast dynamic so I'm happy. I love the V7 sound but am lukewarm to the Dynacaster's sound, surprisingly so. As you mentioned, the V7 does suffer from the proximity effect and resulting plosives when right up on it. Fortunately, there's an easy fix for that (beep beep beep beep!).

Quite a bit more clarity on the Dynacaster in the close mic test, the V7 sounds a bit murkier by comparison but I don't think that's much of a surprise given how I think the actual capsule is recessed more on the Dynacaster. Excellent call with the white noise test! Was fun to see how the character of the noise changed around the mic-- does seem like the Dynacaster just picks up more low end nuance and is the better-balanced mic, though whether or not it's worth nearly 3x the V7... yeah I might just get a nicer condenser haha. Appreciate the video, was fun and informative.

excellent analysis Mr Scott; nonetheless, regarding the 5-inch test I take the V7 every day of the week...

I just ordered a v7, will be a decent upgrade over the q2u I've been using, and for the price it was a no brainer. Thanks for all the videos, really helped my decision.

@@itsvictornieves I have both Mics, it’s been a while since I’ve used Q2u, but I do remember, noticing that the V7 was a lot smoother, more full, had less sibilance, and I just found myself liking how it sounded a lot more at least on my voice (I have a bit of a higher voice). The background noise rejection is stellar as well. I would also say, use a pop filter, or a windscreen though. All in all, it’s definitely a no-brainer for the price. Wonderful mic

I just bought the sE Dynacaster but mine seems to have some issues. The first thing I noticed is the relatively high background hiss I hear when recording something with it plugged into my Goxlr mini. I made sure to match the output volume with my Rode Podmic (they ended up needing the exact same amount of gain to have the same output volume) and I found that the Podmic has practically no background hiss in comparison.
I then tried to activate the built in dynamite to see if that would help. I turned on phantom power on my Goxlr, matched the output volume as close as possible and found that the background hiss is now a little less (though still a little more than the Podmic), but then another problem arose. The Dynacaster now distorts when the recorded sound gets too loud even though the meter in my recording software (and the Goxlr itself) tell me the mic isn't clipping (far from it actually). Seems like I'm overdriving the capsule even though I didn't have this problem with the dynamite turned off.
Now I'm wondering if I should return the mic to get a new one or if this is normal. Hope someone can help me out!

Yes to everything you said. I have both and like both. For more of that that narration 'broadcasty sound,' V7 at 8" wins. Up close, yup, the Dynacaster. Can't really lose though by having both in yer locker. And the V7X is great on toms and snare. Great news is you only have to drop a few shillings to purchase from the V line of mics.

I think the Dynacaster sounds better. Plus a lot more flexibility with the switches.

out of the box i am more on the Dynacaster side.(for podcasts) but I never use a V7 with no eq so the V7 will be my go to, also for snares and live sound

Dynacaster for vocal recording? Go or no go. Is there any better active dynamic mic in that price range?

Have you seen or heard of the sE V2 Switch? I think it came out in June and there are little to no reviews on it. I found one Polish audio channel reviewing the mic and it sounds great, imo, for a **$50** mic.

I have the V7 and i like the dynacaster. This last one is darker or warmer and i like that.

It seems to me that for dynamic vocal mics in general they're charging a premium for the "Joe Rogan look", and when not charging the premium the $99 podcast mics are generally worse than the handheld standards that sell for the same price. That said, the Dynacaster is the first SM7B-ish alternative that I really like and could potentially consider, mainly for its EQ versatility. But it's not 3x better than the V7...

    And then there's the price...
And many people will be using some type of interface and/ or software that allows basic low cut and eq changes. And a pop filter.

I personally prefer the dyna sound; but I do like the warmer, smoother sound in general
