      @Alan Aoun Sure was. I thought the Rams would be Super Bowl contenders for the next few years after 1989. Unfortunately, they wouldn't sniff contention again until 1999.

      Same here! Their cheap owner and upper management didn't want to pay their players, and it haunted the team for almost the whole decade up until 1999.

      It's a damn shame we lost Rosenbloom ...After moving to Anaheim the Rams fell to second from last on the NFL payroll...
      Dad took me to my first Ram game in 1969 I was 6! It was all Ram talk in Los Angeles back then. Merlin Olsen lived across the street from my Jr high school in Downey. And was blessed to take my Son to Canton Ohio in 2001 Youngblood/ Slater...it was a great induction ceremony 7 total that day...Swann, Marv Levy, Nick Baniconti , Ron Yary and Mike Munchic! Marv Levy's personal Cab driver gave his induction speech! What a great time...now my Son's Ram helmet has Youngblood's signature on the left horn and Fred Dryer on the right horn!! And we got it signed by chance... being in the right place at the right time! ✌️

      Cunningham was the most physically gifted qb of all time. He was not the most mentally gifted qb of all time. You have to have the mental to be a super bowl caliber player. It also didn’t help that Buddy Ryan was a complete jackass. Ryan famously celebrated the departure of Chris Carter to the Vikings. That tells you everything you need know about his discernment and overall competency.

      in this game randall cunningham acts like this ram eagle defense is something brand new he has never seen. they have switched to this defense all year, including a successful game against joe Montana .you have to seriously wonder if he was even watching very much film that week. if he was watching the film he would have seen the whole idea of two lineman 5 linebackers is to confuse the blocking assignments for him. lack of game prep or at least proper game prep is something he actually got confronted on by his own teammates. he had the bad luck of this happening when a sports illustrated reporter was there. the sports illustrated story about him suddenly became about that and sports illustrated put it out. everybody resented that he was doing the GQ photo shoots, nike photo shoots , national commercials including Nike , when that time should have been in the film room . people like rice and montana waited till offseason for all that.

      @MaximusWolfe Рік тому

      San Francisco was also just plain better than the Rams. The 89’ 49ers were one of greatest teams ever assembled. I put them only behind the ‘91 Redskins as the best ever.

    • @MaximusWolfe
      @MaximusWolfe Рік тому +1

      @@cbod14
      Nuff said my ass. The Redskins post season and regular season point differential was mammoth. Between the 85 bears, 89 49ers, 78 Steelers and 72 Dolphins the 17-2 Redskins had the greatest point differential, outscoring opponents by an average margin of victory of 16.3 points, slightly higher than that of the second place 1985 Bears (16.1). Try again, Sport.
      “The 1991 Washington Redskins, dominated the league from start to finish. The 1985 Chicago Bears had the most stifling defense, while the 1989 San Francisco 49ers possessed an unstoppable offense. The 1978 Pittsburgh Steelers were balanced on both sides of the ball as were the 1972 undefeated Miami Dolphins, but the Redskins faced a tougher schedule than all of them.”
      -Bleacher Report
      “One amazing number is sack differential. Redskins passers were sacked only nine times all season, while their defense recorded 50 sacks. This is really nothing more than a "freak stat," but the '91 Redskins were one of only three teams since 1950 to record at least 40 more sacks in a season than their opponents. For what it's worth, the nine teams who were plus-35 in sacks or higher had an aggregate record of 91-42-1. (When a sack differential is that high, it's not just about being ahead and forcing the other team to throw a lot.)
      -Eddie Epstein (ESPN football historian).

      @@MaximusWolfe The 49ers were better sorry. They took out the No.1, 3 and 5 ranked defenses in the league. Again They have the highest postseason point differential in NFL History. Try again.

    • @MaximusWolfe
      @MaximusWolfe Рік тому +1

      @@cbod14
      You can say sorry till you are blue in the face. There is no way that the 49ers from 89 beat the Redskins from 91 four times out of seven. You, like so many others, merely assume the 91 Redskins had to have been a worse team because they are not typically as glorified. But according to almost every major statistical category the Redskins were the superior. The Redskins had a much more difficult schedule, a better defense and an offense approximating to the 89 49ers with arguably the greatest offensive line in the history of the NFL insofar as it only gave up nine sacks for the entire season. I saw both those teams firsthand. The 89 49ers were incredible and would be my second place team. However, I have never seen a team more dominant than the 1991 Redskins. If you actually knew what you were talking about then you would know that the Redskins completely obliterated the Buffalo Bills and that at the point differential was only a result of garbage time points being scored by the bills. The game was over midway through the third-quarter if not by the end of the second quarter. They absolutely annihilated the Lions and The Falcons score was also not indicative of how one-sided that game was either. This is because it was played in down pouring rain from snap to zero. The 49ers played a completely exhausted and bedraggled LA Rams team and a very depleted (heavily injured) vikings team. Also, the 1991 bills were a far better team than the 89 broncos (see every statistical category imaginable).

  • @redmustangredmustang

    The thing is that with all that defense, the Eagles just fell apart on offense when it came playoff time. The year before Keith Jackson dropped an easy touchdown and missed field goals and turnovers cost the Eagles a victory against the Bears which the Eagles should have won. In this one, the Eagles had no running game and forced Randall to pass. All that flash and flair doesn't mean a damn thing without any points.

    • @MaximusWolfe
      @MaximusWolfe Рік тому +1

      The eagles never had a running game, period. Buddy Ryan was a shitty head coach. He knew how to get players to like him but not how to get them primed for big games.

    • @martinishot

      Watch the first ram 49er game of the 1989 season played at Candlestick. The Rams win the game primarily because this eagle defense is one where the 49ers could not adjust on the fly to it. The Rams are able to get someone to Montana instantly, most of the time it was Kevin green. What the defense is doing with that formation is completely confusing everybody's blocking assignments. And they are beating the best 49er team I think that there ever was the 1989 team. for the NFC championship game the 49ers had plenty of time to be prepared and knew what to do. That eagle defense is not just great strategy of the Rams it was an admission that they really did not have many quality defensive lineman.
