If I Could Only Choose ONE LENS for Micro Four Thirds? (Photography Quick Chat)

- Today I want to share what I think will be my only lens if I could only have just one lens. This is another practice of camera gear minimalism. I owned many Micro Four Thirds lenses, and many of them are actually really great lens for both photography and video, so it's a bit difficult for me to just select one lens. However, I think this is a good exercise to make us less dependent on gear. In the video I explained my reasoning and thought process of how I end up with my lens of choice.
Hopefully by watching this video, you can learn more about your own photography gear preferences and priorities, so that you can make better choice in terms of camera gear purchase in the future.

For me the Olympus 12-40mm f2.8
Thank you for sharing, all the best!
Yup. That's the one most indispensable lens in my bag, too.
I shoot with 14 mm f/2.5 all the time. This is my only prime lens.
The 15 mm f/1.7 is too expensive! The 20 mm f/1.7 is not wide enough for travel shots.
The 14 mm f/2.5 is what MFT is all about - small, good image quality and inexpensive.
For most amateur shooters taking holiday shots, the 12-32 mm f/3.5-5.6 is good enough. Even Olympus 12 mm f/2 is not sharper than this lens at 12 mm! Also, 12-32 mm comes with image stabilization and also another inexpensive lens with stellar performance.
Thank you for sharing, all the best!
Agree 100%. Great video.
Thank you for watching, all the best!
I was so in love with my 35-100 f2.8
Thank you for sharing, all the best!
Panasonic 20 mm and the Olympus 12-40 f2.8. But as it would be an em1 mkii body, it’ll be the 12-40 f2.8 every day
I would agree on the Pan 15 1.7, but likely lean to the 14-140 if a second lens too. Now if I had to only choose one..Pan 12-35 2.8 if on a smaller LUMIX instead of the OM simply as it has OIS that would work with my IBIS. Do really like the OM lens though…
Thank you for sharing, all the best!
Leica 12-60
Exactly my question on reddit 😂
In my case Pana 20mm 1.7
Thank you for sharing, all the best!
the best and universal zoom is olympus 14-150mm :) best prime lens for me is a 20mm 1.7 or sigma 56mm 1.4
Thank you for sharing, all the best!
Hello Garry, i was wondering about whether if it's worth to buy a brand new Lumix G85 or even G90? For the same monry, could buy an R50, granted, R50 is not an advanced mirrorless camera, but it has bigger sensor and image size. Iirc it is also smaller and lighter than said mft cameras.
And i like my pictures to have super bokeh to separate the subject from the background. Seeing that i might have to spend a lot more to have a lens that able to produce "decent" bokeh in mft, that's a deal breaker for me. Even if it can, most of the time mft lens only able to produce blurry background if i am close to the subject, or the background is so far away.
But with similarly priced in an apsc system, i can get a lot more compared to mft system nowadays. I need your opinion, thanks Garry.
It really depends on what you need from your camera. With M43, you'll get more complete lens selection, and smaller lenses(in general), so it makes more sense for travel photography or video. The G85 and G90 are both great camera, and I think they are worth the money. On the other hand, with the Canon R50, you'll have better sensor and AF performance, but as far as I know, the lens selection is more limited compared to M4/3.
I only have four prime lenses for my micro 4/3 camera:
1. 14mm f/2.5
2. 17mm f/2.8
3. 20mm f/1.7
4. 45mm f/1.8
If I had to limit myself to using only one, I would use the 20mm.
Thank you for sharing, all the best!
I couldn't - it would be at least 2 and one of them would be the 20mm 1.7 panny - Ideally the 9, the 12, the 14 the 15 and the 20 all small except for the 12.
but if you had to twist my arm to breaking point it would be the 12mm 1.4 lieca
Good point, thank you for sharing, all the best!
