    Great video. I have both of the lenses mentioned in this. I find the Panasonic PZ is slightly sharper at 14mm, but the Olympus EZ is better all-around. Love the look of the Olympus much more and it basically lives on my E-P7 (by the way, you can't get this in USA). The E-P7 is only 337g (with battery and SD card), and it's fairly light, but lacks a viewfinder. I found a way to get around this by putting a non-reflective screen protector on it and I can see it decently in the sun now without carrying a loupe.

    Another great find. Thank you very much for sharing your review of this tiny lens. I will move this year to East-Asia. Therefore my whole collection of 11 Sony cameras and 170 lenses needs to go. Once everything got sold (I will keep only my old NEX-7 with two tiny lenses) I will switch over to M43 (most probably the new OM-1) and for sure I will purchase then (in my destination country) this tiny Olympus lens because I want to go as small and portable as reasonable (for quality) and I want to avoid the intimidating impression my full-frame lenses are creating. In this context I highly appreciate your constant focus to tiny and portable stuff.

      @@yohan2437 I'm talking about sharpness and image quality not Markus's skills. We can say: "Yeah. Isn't the indian but the arrow" but the ugly true is many ppl was disappointed with their kit lens. I'm a G7 user and my kit lens is good for video but in stills, his permorfance isn't even close from what I saw in this video. And I think that's the reason why Markus made this video: To show how better is this lens compared to others kit lens for MFT. Greetings from Perú

    • @yohan2437
      @yohan2437 2 роки тому

      @@chinenko7741 You can't really assess the quality and sharpness of a lens by looking at the equivalent of an 8.2 mp image frame from a 4K video. The conditions used for the photos take advantage of the best possible lighting in bright sunshine supplemented by skillful use of flash. This creates maximum contrast which would make most any consumer lens look good at this low resolution. Don't be so quick to dismiss kit lenses. Too often uninformed newbies sell them off too early thinking their lack of skill can be compensated for by using a more expensive lens.

    I use mine when hiking and for streetscape/landscape photography and have never felt I’m not getting enough quality for the 12x16, 16x20 type of shots I do. I know there’s better lenses but not this light, and good quality 37 mm filters are certainly cheaper than equivalent 77 mm filters on my Canon.

    The IIR version (non pancake, very quickly mentioned in the end) must not be 'disrespected'. Many reviews claim the pancake to be prone to vignetting and electronic failure. The IIR is more robust, can get filters and hood fitted and usually in second hand market is found for HALF the price of the pancake. And after all, size wise both are very small.

    I have had that lens and found the Lumix GX PZ14-42 to be the better. Glass is about the same but the PZ has better mechanicals than the somewhat clunky EZ. So much so that now have two PZ and parted with the EZ. One of the PZ usually rides on Oly E-PL7, they work really well on both breeds and suit the smaller 'pocket size' MFT cameras.

The trade off of this lens is bokeh, but photography is not just creating bokeh right? Photography is also about composition, lighting, and so much more aspects.

    I have a half dozen Olympus lenses, some of them pro quality, but this is the compact lens I use when I travel because it is so ridiculously small and convenient. It is wonderfully sharp and I use it with my EM5 Mk II which is also very compact in size. I would highly recommend the Olympus LC-37C lens cap for this lens which automatically opens and closes with the lens being turned on. It's inexpensive ($33) and very cool they way it operates. And thanks again, Markus, for another inspiring video that emphasizes fun and creativity.

    You would need to make a video on cameras lens. Never really understood what was their use in the first place: yeah, there is the focus thing, but why some are giant and expensive and others, small and cheap. Within all these models, how do you figure out what you need if it's just about blurring ?
