  • Hi! We are Marc and Tania. Welcome to episode 8 of our RAM Promaster 2500 van build/conversion series. In this video, we install Scopema seat swivels on both of our front seats. We actually had planned to do this project much earlier, but there was a shipping delay on the passenger swivel. Finally, 9 weeks later, we had both of them and were ready to go. One of the reasons we went with the Scopema swivel was the low profile. We even found some websites that showed us a few tricks to make the profile as low as possible. You’ll see how we made these modifications….and how we did the complete passenger seat install in this video. We repeated the same process for the driver’s side. It’s great to be able to just swing the seats around now…..and access the back of the van without stepping outside..
    If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment below, and please give a thumbs-up if you enjoyed this video and found in helpful to you. Subscribe to our channel to follow along on our entire van build series.

    Sir, the Scopema PDF clearly says that the larger screws are for the spacer to get bolted to the seat. The smaller screws are to attach the swivel to the 'avant'.

    • @marctania2349
      @marctania2349  2 роки тому +2

      Hi Brynn, Thank you for commenting. You are correct. The larger screws would normally be used to attach the seat and the spacer. However, we did not use the spacer....we actually modified the bottom of the seat to fit without it. Without the spacer, the long screws were too long....so we switched them. Hope that makes sense. :)

    Hi, just about to hit the buy on the Scopema swivels. I read that you had to do something with the emergency brake on the drivers side... did you have to do that? I have a 2018 Ram Promaster 2500 high roof 159.

    • @marctania2349

      Hi Jong, We did not do anything with the emergency brake on our 2019 Promaster. The only modification we made was to cut off the metal tab under the seats. This allowed us to install the Scopema Swivels without using the spacer bars. This saved us about 1/2 inch of height on the finished seat. It's a very easy modification.

    With factory spacer height: 1.2” = 19/16”
    Without factory spacer height: 7/8” = 14/16”
    The difference between with and without the factory spacer is: 19/16 - 14/16 = 5/16”
    You also added washers for stability which added 2/16” to your height.
    So if my math is correct, by removing the factory spacer and chopping seatbelts components, which arguably removes safety and security of the seat. You only saved 3/16 of an inch.

    • @marctania2349
      @marctania2349  Рік тому +1

      I recall it being about 1/2 of an inch, so you are about right. Up to you whether or not it is worth it. We rented a van in Scotland and the drivers seat was too high....pretty miserable. So we felt any height savings was worth the effort.

  • @wkw4095
    @wkw4095 Рік тому +1

    Sooooo....you eliminated the spacer and used the washers in place saving you 1/8 inch in height. Maybe the spacers and less hassle would be best. Also, that hook cut off on the bottom of the seat belt anchor is there for safety code specs.

    • @marctania2349
      @marctania2349  Рік тому

      It was definitely more than 1/8 of an inch.......but I dont remember exactly how much. AS far as that little metal piece.....heck if I know. I rotated the seat and moved everything I could and couldn't find what it did.

    Love your video!!! I am starting my van build and have watched all your video.. just got my swivel seat today and debating if I should modify to reduce the height or not.. it seems like the added washers is about 1/8” only saving 3/8” without the spacer.. do u think if it worth to do the modification? Does your seat come with the 6 way adjustable? Mine is 6 way adjustable… can’t wait to see your electrical and plumbing video out

      Jeff, My apologies for the late response. We have been in NJ the last 2 weeks handling some family matters after my parents passing. But thank you for the question. I would personally make any modification that is needed to reduce the seat height. We were recently in Scotland in a van rental...and the swivel seats had me staring into the visor. I HATED it.....and I am only 5'7". The mod for the Scopema seats is quite straight forward. Not sure for the others.....

    Do these swivels make the driver's seat too high for driving? I've heard the promaster seats are already high and then these just add extra height.

    • @marctania2349
      @marctania2349  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Dylan, Tania is actually comfortable driving the van....and she's 5'3". It did help that we used the Scopemas.....as they are supposed to have least height increase. Also, we made a modification (as in the video) that allowed us to ditch the spacer bars. But the swivels work great...we would highly recommend them.

      @@dylancunningham8769 Ahh....Gotcha. I have heard of taller people who ended up right at the visor after lifting the seats. We are in NJ right now visiting family....but, when we get back, we'll have our 6' next door neighbor sit in it and get his input. The Scopemas, without the spacer, did not raise it by much.

    after deciding that my passenger seat was to high, I removed the spacers and was about to cut that flange, but it looks like the flange was designed
    to secure the seat belt in case of an accident.
