This movie is underrated. I love it. I feel that what makes it so good to me is it’s like when you’re trying to run a semi serious dnd campaign and it’s immediately derailed by your goofy friends. Then, instead of getting pissed about it you change the campaign and characters into something they want to play. I imagine the DM starting off making lazaar serious but then later getting silly with it shouting “jumping!” As the BBEG tries to get distance from the party in the final battle, or having the Minotaur start banging their npc helper. It’s crass, goofy, immature, and anachronistic in most of its dialogue, but this is exactly the sort of nonsense a dnd campaign can turn into if everyone is on board and the DM is chill.
I remember seeing this on DVD for a dollar. The big things I remember about this movie was the minotaur "trophy" and that Natalie Portman used a butt double.

In my mind, I've somehow always conflated this film and Year One. Watching your video on this now and immediately racing to watch your video on Year One from last year, I'm starting to see why. While the talent and intention behind them initially seems very different, with Year One being scripted by incredibly talented comedy writers and Your Highness more being from the onset a massive improv session between its principal players, they both come off with a similar feel. Lowbrow humor that could work in some contexts that instead just feels tiring. It similarly has a strong cast that are playing their usual personas more than distinct characters. Also in similar fashion, they don't have enough straight comedy to make the more stoogish comedy to contrast with. Not only do they have loose connections in their dressing (period piece stoner comedies that try to genre bend a little with historical fantasy) but they share a lot of the same problems. Heck, most of your criticisms of the two movies overlap. Despite having two years between them, Your Highness really does feel like a repeat of most of the mistakes of Year One with a slightly different shade of paint.
Man -- if I ever made a movie and it came out like _THAT,_ I don't think I'd tell the story about it originating as a joke...🤣 and certainly not while glowing with pride!
Wow you hit the nail on the head with this. The worst part of your highness for me is that it was such a great premise and there was a few memorable and funny things, like the barbarian that joined them getting killed by the trap as quick as he did, lazaar saying magic mother fucker, his line about being rich living in a castle and doing fucking magic. the centaur trophy as crude as it was got a laugh out of me. I was 20 when this came out and like you found some of the dialogue to be needlessly crude to the detriment of the story or scene.
I've been playing DnD for years. I ran a campaign that lasted over 4 years. When I watched this movie for the first time last month, I thought it was way more DnD than the actual DnD movies. Like this is the nonsense I had to deal with at the table. I love it!
I’ve seen this movie dozens of times. This and “Day One” with Jack Black were my sleepy time movies for at least a year. “Not triangle face, it scares me.” Classic.

Heck, most of your criticisms of the two movies overlap. Despite having two years between them, Your Highness really does feel like a repeat of most of the mistakes of Year One with a slightly different shade of paint.
Dude. Me too. This and Year One were always on deck. They’re great “dumb” comedies that never get old.
Agreed .
This has the baddie shout "JUMPING" in the climax as he jumps, and that's what's stuck with me all these years. Delightful
I actually found this movie to be hilarious. Very quotable with me and my brother
Would you ever talk about This Is The End? I honestly feel like that movie is hilarious and super underrated.
Always enjoyed this movie. The production value was unnecessarily bigger than probably needed but it makes the fantasy aspects work all the better.
Man -- if I ever made a movie and it came out like _THAT,_ I don't think I'd tell the story about it originating as a joke...🤣 and certainly not while glowing with pride!
Just smoke some pot and watch this movie. It is absolutely hilarious. I don’t ever smoke but that’s how I watched this and I loved it.
Bruh this movie was hilarious 😂
I'm surprised you didn't mention Robin Hood Men In Tights lol - even if this movie doesn't try to mimic or pay homage to Mel Brooks' type of humor
this isn't a great movie, but "Handle your shit, Fabious, please" got a big laugh outta me
I hate that people say this movie sucks but pineapple or superbad are hilarious lol its the same sense of humor
When you THINK you're the demo lmao
I'm sorry, and I can see why this movie isn't liked by a lot of people.. but I happen to love it for what it is. I just can't help it lol.
I've been playing DnD for years. I ran a campaign that lasted over 4 years. When I watched this movie for the first time last month, I thought it was way more DnD than the actual DnD movies. Like this is the nonsense I had to deal with at the table. I love it!
If you watch this movie super stoned. It’s actually really good movie 👍
The original script was so insane, but would have been so fucking expensive to shoot. Wish we could have saw that version.
I’ve seen this movie dozens of times. This and “Day One” with Jack Black were my sleepy time movies for at least a year. “Not triangle face, it scares me.” Classic.
Honestly, I feel like there is a very promising premise here that just needed the RIGHT hands to execute it properly.
Like you said, Joe, I hope someone else takes a crack at it again one day.
That scene where he's wearing the monsters cock on his neck as a trophy made the whole thing for me
honestly i love this movie. i know its stupid but it makes me laugh. #TriangleFace
A dude at my work does a perfect triangle face
No not triangle face it’s scares me 😂
This movie is hilarious.
This movie is like Galavant, if Galavant had no songs and worse writing. Like, not saying the jokes in Galavant are always top notch, but it can be surprisingly quotable, not to mention the songs are amazing!
People kept telling me Galavant was good, but it never really clicked with me. It just looked awful to me.
@@christopherwall2121 I mean I guess comedy is subjective, but I myself liked it a lot. And I do think it has a similar vibe to Your Highness.
@@tereziamarkova2822 I mean, my friends that did watch it only seemed to like the songs, with the actual humor being.... considerably less so.
And not like, occasional clunkers-bad, I mean like downright offensive jokes. Like, I heard there was a lot of racist humor on the show.
This movie was and IS super underrated so damn funny!!!
"not trying to be the best at exercising" always gets me lol
18 in 2011? Oh wow. This guy and me are much closer in age than I would've figured going by his voice.
I watched the unrated version of this film, and as soon as I saw the minotaur in your video I had to pause for a moment because of the PTSD.
wow, if I had a nickel for every actor in this movie who later on went to play a main character in Game of Throne I would have two nickels, which isn't much but crazy how it happened twice
Unabashedly love this movie.
