    Will Bulsiewicz shares his advice for how to heal your gut microbiome, from the inside out. He talks about what the gut microbiome is and why its health is crucial, what common things destroy the micro biome, and how to heal it with diet. Revealing that avoiding a food that gives you issues, actually makes your gut weaker. And if we want to have a fully functioning digestive system, we need to learn how to have an integrative, fiber-rich, plant diet.

    The way Dr. Bulsiewicz described his 30s is how I feel right now... this video was from beginning to end pure gold. Motivating and informational. I am so inspired to look at my diet as a means to change how I have been feeling. Thank you both!

    I have been listening to several of Dr Will’s interviews the past few days and see why all of the restrictive diets to heal my gut did not improve. I went to my safe list, went as far as doing a meat based diet because the fiber hurt so much. I struggled with IBS my entire life and looking back I was on a lot of antibiotics and experienced trauma and long term stress. I am starting to diversify my plants so I am getting more variety as well as working my way to a WFPBD. I’ve eliminated all meat and dairy - still eating fish and eggs but have cut back enormously - no more quick fixes. I have a lot of healing to experience and I’m willing to go all in. I appreciate platforms like this - I discovered both of you through Rich Roll!!

    I’ve been on a whole food plant based diet for over a decade now. I saw real improvements in my overall health including quicker recovery times, and stronger heart and cardio. But I still had gut issues. I tried every cleanse and fad - I worked with functional
    medicine doctors and gut specialists. Nothing helped until I found Medical Medium and his book, Cleanse to Heal. Anyone who is wfpb and still struggling needs to read that book. Game changer!

    first time hearing both , attracted by title, delighted with what I heard !!!
    … not new for me this ancient knowledge I learned from Macrobiotic Principles but so important to be spread out from doctors mouth for the world’s sake !!! experimented on my plate and lifestyle for 21 years , unique results on immunity of my 18 y. old daughter ever since I was pregnant ( although born c.section) , breastfeeding compenses all , whole foods , vegetables, sea weeds, beans , fermented foods … no dairy, meat & refined foods
    until today never needed a pill … does that ring a bell ?
    accessible from Nature to all humans , for a more conscious & peaceful world !!!
    Thanks for your expertise!

    I've been struggling with IBS for 4 years now, off and on. My grandfather passed away early from colon cancer, and since then, its been a worry for my family that the same disease could effect one of us. I immediately sent this to my father, and bought the book for myself with the hopes of changing our diet for good! Thank you Nimai and Dr. B! This podcast provides the science and contextual breakdown that's necessary for people like me who want to shift to plant-based, but are lacking that strong "Why?" to do so.

    Dr. B; I truly learn more and more with every podcast you do.
    And Nimai, thank you for having Dr. B on your podcast... I've followed all of Dr. B's podcasts for a year or 2 now, and followed his program of high-diversity plant based diet for a year.
    I've been vegetarian since '83, and vegan for 6 years. But using Dr. B's the high-diversity, plant-based lifestyle process has made me even stronger and have more endurance than ever, even at 67. Thank you again.

    I’ve been experiencing chronic diarrhea for the last four months. I had my gallbladder removed a year ago. I had stool samples nothing there I have a colonoscopy coming up this week. It’s so frustrating I’m feeding my Microbiome fermented foods and fiber I’ve completely changed my diet to plant based I’m not eating any processed foods or meats. It’s just frustrating to wonder what’s happening to my body

  • @kin.9133

    Great listen - thanks Will and Nimai. BUT. I'm always skeptical when people say 'just wait your body will adjust to the higher fibre content when you go vegan'. I've been fully vegan for 2 years and predominantly WFPB for 3 years before that. I don't feel as bloated as I did in the beginning, but I definitely still bloat after meals, and I'm ALWAYS VERY GASSY. I've just accepted that it's a part of my life now and I'm otherwise pretty happy with my diet and the benefits. I've tried all the tips and tricks - soaking my beans and lentils, cooking them with seaweed, eating slower etc etc and nothing seems to reduce my gasiness.

    meat is the one food that gives me zero digestive issues whereas fiber gives me lots of digestive issues. and yes i did try slowly building up fiber but my oats and chia seeds messed up my stomach.

    Doesn’t ketosis, the metabolism of ketones, create SCFA? If so, are they the same ones that Dr. B spoke about?

    • @heidivernathorbjrnsen4745
      @heidivernathorbjrnsen4745 2 роки тому

      Yes I’m curious about this too. I think that’s why the keto drs say to eat 6- 9 cups of green veggies a day. Meat , cheese & eggs , butter , etc is not enough & have no fiber or prebiotics to give into one’s gut.

  • @16Elless

    Interesting talk. I recently started to include more plant varieties into my diet after hearing Tim Spector saying we should aim for 30+ different plants per week. That turned out to be much more achievable than I imagined. I still eat meat, fish & dairy in moderation but have massively reduced the amount of processed food I was eating. Also doing IF. I’ve lost nearly a stone over the last 6 months. As for smoothies, I used to enjoy them regularly as I thought they were good for me but then I read that you should eat the whole fruit rather than “drinking” it because of the huge sugar hit your body gets in one go & also because the fibre content is much less due to blitzing it in a processor it isn’t reaching the gut intact so surely that’s not so helpful. As for cholesterol I’ve learned there’s no “good or bad”, just cholesterol. Triglycerides seem to be the biggest issue which doesn’t get talked about so much. Statins certainly lower LDL but that isn’t necessarily a good thing especially as a female over 60 where higher LDL can actually be protective according to Dr Aseem Malhotra (consultant cardiologist in UK) & others. Of course statins are really good for Big Pharma. Not cynical…..

      Plant based is a huge umbrella of styles of eating & it can be healthy or very unhealthy. Obviously, too if you are having leaky gut too & allergies while trying to heal - one must become familiar, eliminating or limiting offending foods - sometimes you can add them back in bits later on bit by bit. Sometimes , lectins are involved & one must pressure cook things like legumes & omit seeds & skins concerning certain veggies , fruits & nuts to not have gut distress- soaking them often beforehand - so it’s a bit more complicated than saying eat plant based & you’ll do great .

    • @chrisr.6638
      @chrisr.6638 2 роки тому +1

      Oxalates can cause kidney stones. I personally avoid spinach and go for kale, arugula and other greens. As for lectins there's hardly any after cooking as far as I know.

      He gives some good advice for people having sensitivities - on how to prepare foods by pressure cooking or omitting skins & seeds in certain nuts, veggies & fruits
      Spelt is a better choice over modern wheat too- especially sour dough breads. Sprouted grains are easier to digest .

    we cant digest fibers it leaves our body quickly. If thats the preferred food for our ENGINE which is microbiome .... then thats pretty bad
