Hey man, most of what you rode on the slick rocks and washes are fine, but there is a biological soil crust that covers most of the soil in Sedona. That crust helps prevent erosion and sediment loading on Oak Creek, which runs through Sedona (and eventually makes its way into Phoenix's water system). It also helps prevent blow out of the trails around the area. When you ride through it off the trail and through the plants, it destroys the crust and it takes 50-250 years for that cryptobiotic soil to grow back. Please stay on the trail next time you ride down there, unless it is completely rock that you are riding on. It costs the forest service about $450,000 a year and a ton of volunteer hours to maintain all the trails around Sedona. You really have to watch out for erosion issues in AZ, the soil and surface water quality is different than back east. Cool vid though, Highline is definitely one of the best trails around Sedona. Also if you find yourself in Flagstaff at some point, the trails are honestly way better than Sedona with way more descending.
Agreed! Riding in Sedona, you can see the difference from normal soil to the cryptobiotic soil. And living up here in Flagstaff and hoping one of these youtubers will come up here and ride these trails.
I watched him clean it! It was unreal. He was even mentioning how tired his legs were earlier. I think he just does that to make a bigger impact when he climbs impossible stuff. lol
you truly are the most amazing rider I've ever seen!! I love your channel, told you that a million times, but you just never stopped continuously impressing me live it
YESSS!!! What a great video. You captured the day perfectly! Hands down one of the best group rides I've ever been on. Awesome people - Rad trails - SO MUCH STOKE! Thanks TASCO + Dusty Betty for the hospitality.
Love the new Logo and short intro. Upping your game! I hope people realize you were one of the pioneers of the UA-cam craze, and not a "me too" Johnny come lately. I remember watching your "Skills with Phil" videos way before any of the newer stabilized POV stuff was coming out. In fact, I learned a LOT from watching your tutorials! You're still that "I'll hit it guy" on all of the cool stuff, and your riding is off the charts cool to watch. I'm glad to see more people getting on board with sponsoring you, and I think the sky is the limit on your videos. You and Seth...started it all as far as I'm concerned!
I had a chance to see you doing some jumps right by the Sedona MTB Festival. I didn't want to bother y'all but awesome to see you doing your thing in person.
Great video, this looks like a ton of fun. I'm new to mountain biking in general and had no idea there was a mountain bike festival and such great trails in Sedona. I can't wait to make a trip up there and check it all out!
I just rode the Hiline trail this week and had a blast. That downhill section mixed with packed dirt and slick rock and amazing views is out of this world.
Watching you shred is so inspiring, Phil! You have such a creative and fun way of going through a trail, man. Thanks for the great video and for keeping our stoke levels at max!
Phil, this is hands down one of the coolest MTB related vids I’ve seen so far on UA-cam! You killed it with production and the riding is amazing as always. Thanks for sharing this with us!
So sick! You know it's gnarly when it looks steep even with the Gopro effect. Phil's got the Skills!!! Also, adding Sedona to the places I need to ride before I die.
The laughter at 9:29 is super contagious haha. I played that audio back about 3-4 times😂🤙... honestly just made my morning. I love your content man and you shred!!!
Its always an amazing time watching you ride through your videos. Your choice of lines and where you find lines is always amazing. I find myself trying to lift out of my seat at work to look ahead when you go down those steep declines and we cant see whats at the bottom. Thanks for the upload (s) as always...
Anyone else feel like a ride with Phil or Alex would be one the best rides you ever had just because of how high energy and excited they are while riding? The positive energy just radiates off them and their vocal about it too 😅
Love the intro. Quality editing on this one!!! Best yet! Looks like a blast to ride. Your skills on a bike are crazy by the way, lol... Enjoy the ride!!
Phil is BACK on the map. It’s a whole new thing watching Phil on ‘destination’ trails. Love it. Good editing, felt like a lot of material for 13.5 min.
Bad ass man. So glad to see some riding videos and love how Phil's take on HiLine is "needs MOAR blacks" as he hits the trail. One day I'd LOVE to see you and Jeff Kendel-Weed. That seems like a perfect pairing on cool lines and flying around.
Next year I want to make the time to go to this. I love AZ, I get to ride their often, but the festival would be fun. I love how the mountains pop up out of no where. haha
Good day to you, Mr. Phil. As a native Arizonan, welcome to our wonderful state! Let's ride! 2:02 - "Arizona itself is pretty crazy," it's crazy but it's awesome. I'm sad to be leaving it. 4:39 - Dusty Betty! Hello Steven and Tess! 😎 (it is so cool when my favorite MTBers meet up with each other and we get to see the results on everyone's channels) 6:05 - Yes, we have attack plants here in the desert. Some are cool, like the Saguaro, but others are just plain nasty (like this one). Definitely watch out for the Cholla! 8:26 - All I can say is, "Wow!" Great video, Phil. I'm really glad Arizona has made a good impression on you. I do one day hope to get up to Sedona to ride (I'm about a 5 hour drive south of there). By the way, I really dig the music selection for this. And I like how you overlayed it with the regular audio. I may try that in my next video. And is that a new logo I see? Stay upright and keep the rubber side down. -Brian
Nice video Phil. You really should update your description though and comment on what a few people mentioned below on how you should never go off the trail because of the soil type in the desert. Most people look in your description of the video but they don't read all the comments so they might think what you're doing is perfectly fine and they'll go there and do the same. You are pretty big UA-camr and lots of people watch your videos so it would be helpful for you to do that.
Phil they gave you the cold shoulder because you’re Phil with Skills. You do things that they would not do because you know what you’re doing. That is why I subscribed and thumbs up.
Very nice trails. I was hoping to see only dust basically but they look very cool. Its also fun when one is about to have some fun and remembers a school assigment hahaha. Cool video, trip and will check this tasco guys online...
Waited all winter for a proper skills with Phil video. Same awesome riding style but the edit quality and overall layout have hit new heights . So buzzing don’t leave us as long next time 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Looking forward to it, we've missed you!
Skills With Phil am now a patreon supporter for you can't wait for new videos
Skills With Phil your the no1 rider in the world to me bro 💪
Hey where's the HIGHLINE Chute and following footage? Is it missing form this video?
One of the best days of my life. I'll never forget this day.
Seeing you ride in person was mind-blowing. So much stoke on an amazing day.
That was my favorite vid by you so far Phil! Such a rad feel to it and the riding was gnarly. Thanks for taking us along!

Stay off the Crypto!
So cool, dude!
BKXC how close to crossing paths were y'all? I kept thinking y'all would meet up and ride!
Two thumbs up!!
I want to see you clean the climb out of Hiline, that climb out was above my pay grade in a few sections.
I cleaned it actually! I need to go back and shoot it for a Trail Boss episode.
I watched him clean it! It was unreal. He was even mentioning how tired his legs were earlier. I think he just does that to make a bigger impact when he climbs impossible stuff. lol
One thumb up for all the rad lines, one thumb down for all the off-trail crypto damage. No excuse for that
Excellent as always...
Thanks Thomas :)
you truly are the most amazing rider I've ever seen!! I love your channel, told you that a million times, but you just never stopped continuously impressing me live it

This ride was some of the most fun I've ever had on a bike! It was awesome to meet you and watch you drop those sick lines!! Great edit!
Glad you're making videos again.Hope everything is well with you.Always enjoy watching you ride!
I could't stop grinning while watching this video. Brilliant vibe ! "Hello Sedona, I'm Phil and I'm here to take your candy !"

Your confidence and the ability to back it up is amazing !
Great riding, but creating new lines through cryptobiotic soil scars the landscape. Please stay on the trail or at least solid rock.
Phil...Thank you ! I will have to try these trails... Looks like FUN!
Rewatching Sedona rides. Headed up for 26th anniversary. Thanks for the stoke, again.
Always excited to see a new video by Phil. What a great ambassador to the sport.
That steep line was gnarly... and the video captures the vibe really well of a massive fun group ride.
I love watching you ride with people closer to my skill level. I really lets you showcase how skilled you actually are.
Such a fun video Phil. Great editing and great storytelling. Thanks for sharing.
Best video yet! You did a really good job of showcasing Hiline!
Phil! Come back to Arizona and let's go to Sedona again!
You got mad bike skills dogg!!!! The most talented rider I've ever seen, keep havin fun and inspiring us!!!!
So sick! You know it's gnarly when it looks steep even with the Gopro effect. Phil's got the Skills!!!

It amazes me how easy you tackle new terrain. You seem comfortable riding anything, anywhere.

Dude you constantly scare the crap out of me trying sketchy steep lines and then make it look so effortless. Fantastic riding!
Dewd the level of excitement in your voice is contagious. It's just that little bit higher in pitch than usual. Love your work.
Perfect soundtrack for AZ!! Awesome vistas too Phil. Great vid!
