It's so funny...here on the east coast, where I live, plenty of places offer fish n chips (coast and lots of Irish in the area). But never a fish fry, with special prices, as you'd easily find in the Protestant midwest, like WI, MN and MI. I miss that. Of course, they've freshwater fish, often

There you are, I was just watching your rice video waiting for you. I must say I’m dying to try it. I really need this inspiration every week.
I never watch stuff like this, but it's somehow just so incredibly relaxing. You say 'there's nothing fancy here', but those blue plates are absolute beauties.
Mince rounds (and steak & bean pies) are probably one of the things I miss most about Scotland, I've given up on finding anything close so I probably just need to learn how to make them.
I want to know where to buy those blue plates. We bought some from Denby to match our blue Denby bowls, but they were really faded, whereas these look perfect!

Mashed tatties with beans must be a Scottish thing. I have been in Canada for 40 yrs and still love it. Mince round I make regularly.

Barely ate breakfast (late too) and I'm salivating. Time to figure out what lunch will be 😂 The chicken schnitzel and salad looked quite fine to me!

More lovely meals
Bake beans, mashed spuds, black or white pudding, a fried egg, sausages. Mash up the egg and pudding and mix it up with the mash and beans and brown sauce as well . Beautiful.

Starting in 1955 I went to my Gran's every day from school to get my dinner. On a Friday she always made fish. I did not like fish so she always made me beans and mashed potato.
Here in Ireland it was a very staunch tradition till as recently as the 1990s and still upheld in some houses to this day. Many very Catholic families would either have fish or simply abstain from meat altogether on both Wednesday's and Fridays. The reasoning being that Wednesday was the day Jesus was betrayed snd Friday the day he was crucified. In fact in small villages like where I grew up it was completely taboo to even CONSIDER eating meat on either of those days.
Once again cooking food I grew up with and love! Mince pies, potatoes, fish and chips... ham and tomato sammies! YUM!!!😋

Sorry , late watching this as we're were out yesterday. Lovely meals, I made tuscan chicken few weeks ago it was so nice so I bet with the pasta it's delicious. I ofern do pork schnitzels , nice touch adding black sesame seeds to crumbs will have to try that. Can I ask Cheryl when are you putting the leek & potato soup video on? That's 1 I'm looking forward to trying.

Thanks again for another amazing meal recipe ideas. Yes I love baked beans with mash, on toast. all the way my mum gave them to me with sausages as well growing up . GrandGirl favorite meal: Breaded Chicken (usually nuggets with Ranch), fries (chips) and salad - well, carrot sticks, tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers. Thanks for your videos!
Just finished making your pasties with corned beef. Had to use Hampers beef as that's what we get in Australia. They look great, hope the grandkids like them, hubby does so that's a good thing.

Cheryl, I love mashed potato, beans and sausages or ground beef BUT the beans here in the US you cannot eat but a little amount as they are so so sweet. I have finally found The English Tea Store ( although I am Irish not English) on line who operate out of Pennsylvania and they have beans from home and other goodies that do not cost an arm and a leg. I believe that is why they do not eat beans and mash. They have been impressed with baked potato and beans and I believe that is because you use less beans. Have a lovely week.
Good evening Cheryl, some cracking looking family meals on offer once again. Friday night was always fish & chips night in our house growing up, my poor Mum had to feed us in different ‘sittings’, as there were eight mouths to feed, six of us plus Mum & Dad, she’d have 2 big frying pans on the go at the same time & the old fashioned chip pan had to work overtime! 🥵😆😂
We love mashed potatoes and baked beans, you have me hooked on those. Nice picnic meal. Your salads always look so appetizing. We love Pasta Bake. I like having fish on Friday. Around here folks serve up All You Can Eat Fish Dinners at some of the restaurants. I can't wait for this version of your Tuscan Chicken. We love the original version. I made my own Boursin Cheese and made your Boursin Cheese Pasta yesterday. I'll be making your Chicken Schnitzel later this week.

My favourite salad is little similar to your Wednesday meal one. I like iceberg lettuce, cucumber, Colby or mild cheddar, tomato chunks or cherry tomatoes with 1000s island dressing, best served on chilled plate. Always best to serve salads separate dish, chilled if possible, it makes a world of difference.

My mother used short pastry for our mince pie.
American baked beans are really really different from Scottish/British baked beans. American baked beans have a lot of molasses (black treacle) in them instead of being mostly tomato like their British cousins.

I never liked baked beans at home,or here in the States,but I do like either dried cooked beans,or tinned beans,so of cause it’s the sauce I don’t like.

Fish on Friday is usually a Catholic tradition - Catholics are not permitted to eat meat on a Friday - any other day is fine - but the only animal that they can consume on a Friday is fish!
I'm the only Brit I know who doesn't like baked beans. I think it's a texture thing for me!!

No Matthew, you’re not alone … I’m the same, cannot abide them with mash tatties, I think it’s a texture thing as well, can just about bear them on toast. I’m not a faddie picky eater either, eat just about anything … other than beans & mash!🥴🫣😆
@JanetBrown-px2jn that's exactly it for me, Janet. Left over from childhood, I can not stand kidney beans, although I will eat virtually any other type of bean. And I don't like a sweet sauce with savory foods.
