How to Use Bauer Tools with Dewalt Batteries || Harbor Freight Floodlight with a Dewalt Battery Mod

  • Since I made this video, I've pulled apart another light to do the same mod, and I realized that the Yellow wire actually MUST be disconnected from the battery terminal (like I do in the video), otherwise it will not function. Just follow exactly what I do in the video and it will work.
    This mod has been confirmed to work on:
    Bauer Inflator
    Bauer Glue Gun

    The resistor part of this mod is not required on the following yard tools:
    Blowers
    Weed Trimmers
    Hedge Trimmers
    This mod apparently does NOT work on the following:
    6" Polisher
    Cordless Transfer Pump
    Please Post if you have success or not on this mod. I'll try to keep the list above updated.

    Very cool mod in deed, glad you did keep in mind of the battery protection circuit. The compromise that Dewalt did with their lithium battery line is that the tool itself monitors the battery low voltage cutoff by sensing one of the cell. This method allows the tool to the full potential of the battery module without risking blowing out the onboard BMS since there is none.
    The cell balancing is done when its docked on the charger, so I soldered on a JST connector on the docking pins inside the charger to allow me to use my ISDT BatteryGO BG-8S (or similar device) to check the cell balance when charging to help protect my investment.

    I did in a inflator pump and it did works fine .. just the inflator pump board have a diferent design so I end it up cutting the 3r terninal that connects to the battery and soldering the 10kom resistor from that terminal in the board to the last terminal where you soldered the resistor , it works perfet

    I use dewalt for my 20v stuff and milwaukee for my 12v and as a mechanic I don't need a really powerful fan and didn't feel like spending 100 plus on one so I got the Bauer one and I didn't work right away, I had to open it up and resoldier the ground to the pin that lines up with the dewalt ground, completely bypassing the Bauer circuit protection, it's a snug fit but works fine.

    Nice video. Thanks for sharing. I’ve hacked the small inflator and the hand vac by cutting the black wire from the middle of the board and soldering it to the b- terminal on the board. No resistor. Probably bypasses all the safety cutoffs but the tools I’ve hacked have low power draw. I probably wouldn’t do this mod on too many of the Bauer tools, I’d either just buy the Bauer batteries or pony up for the Dewalt tools.

      For me, I just added a jumper wire to connect the middle contact to B- without cutting the middle black wire. It worked for the hand held inflator model 1954C-B.

    I know the video is kinda old, but I bought the compact 20v Bauer leaf blower to convert it but am having no luck. The black block that the blade terminals are in is directly attached to what I assume is the protection circuit board. I have no yellow wire. I tried putting the 10k resistor across terminals 1 & 3, but this was also unsuccessful. I'd prefer to keep the protection circuit intact rather than just move the black wire to the other location and bypass the circuit entirely. Suggestions?

      According to the research I did when this video was published, the leaf blower should just operate without any modification. If that is no longer the case, I'll be sure to update my description. Thanks!

    This is actually the way that Milwaukee connects the BMS to disable tool so it doesn't overdischarge the battery. Bauer and earthquake apparently copied that as well, no doubt Hercules is also the same. It's just an amazing coincidence that both Milwaukee(TTI) and DeWalt (B&D)use the same pattern connector and even the same polarity considering they truly are unrelated companies. Nice video. However you do need to remember that this modification circumvents what both DeWalt and Bauer uses to prevent battery damage from over discharging, Although this light seems to have a secondary system that cuts off at 16 volts most other tools are not like that.

    Thanks

    • @justinbenz2705
      @justinbenz2705  2 роки тому

      If you left the battery connected for 2-3 months, then yes, the resistor would slowly drain the battery. Otherwise, not at all.

    Could you please do a hercules light to dewalt batteries. I've tried and haven't been able to get it to work

    • @justinbenz2705
      @justinbenz2705  2 роки тому

      Justin, the Hercules light uses a small microchip called the Holtek HT66FO19 that communicates with the battery. There is no easy way to spoof this with a resistor.

    • @justinbenz2705
      @justinbenz2705  2 роки тому

      However, you could run the power from the battery to the spot where the AC/DC converter connects inside the light. You would also need to add a Schottky diode on the positive side of the AC/DC converter in order to prevent it from being back-fed by the battery (the battery views it as a direct short, it will cook stuff). I might make a video about it at some point, I just haven't gotten around to it.

    What was the yellow wire for? Did you ever figure out? So all Bauer tool does come with a low voltage detector

    • @justinbenz2705
      @justinbenz2705  2 роки тому

      Yellow wire is the sensor wire that prevents battery overheating. I haven't tested any of their tools besides the floodlight, but I'm assuming if they put the low battery cutoff in the tool in this case, they likely did it for all the tools. The batteries can then be sold for cheaper as they don't require the low battery cutoff electronics. Actually, now that I'm thinking of it, I don't believe that the yard trimmer has a low voltage cutoff. So maybe only the floodlight has it.

    • @justinbenz2705

      @@justinbenz2705 I saw that too and can confirm just to knock out the one piece of plastic that stands straight up on the Bauer battery port. The first time you took out your Dremel in this video, that’s all it needs for the Dewalt to slide on. You might need to give it a push so it slides In all the way.
      I saw too saw that video that you’re referring to when dude just knocked out that one plastic piece on the Bauer so the battery fits on there, he does it with a utility knife in one cut, slides the battery on and blower blows. Seeing that was why I bought the Bauer blower too, got home knocked out the plastic piece, slid the battery on and tried to power it on but I hear a little click and that’s it, nothing. Tried with different Dewalt batteries and nada. So weird I guess they must have changed something, not sure who though but it definitely didn’t work for me. Asked my neighbor to borrower his Bauer battery to test to see if the blower wasn’t defective, it surely enough it powers on just fine with a Bauer battery? Probably going to try your 10K resistor idea but gotta figure out how to do that without opening up the blower cuz I’m prolly gonna return it. Found a guy selling an ego blower for $50, no charger though but they’re like $25 on eBay
