MY GOD.. after my dad passed away, he left behind a silver bolstered bushcraft knife. I never knew the maker because it wasn't written on the blade, all I know is that the sheath and blade had silver fittings, the blade was very polished for its age and that it was made in Norway. Thank you, I finally know that it's a David Anderson knife after 20 years.

How I became a knife guy. When I was about 10 years old, I found a small, white, folding knife. It was a simple little knife with a single blade that was about an inch and a half long. Holding it in my hand was exhilarating. I imagined I was not allowed to have it so wrapped it in a piece of paper, stuck it in a small plastic container, and buried it in my yard. I never found it again.
About ten years later a guy showed me his knife and I was awestruck. It was an all stainless steel, Spyderco, Police model with combo edge blade. The sun bounced off the knife and the glare was almost blinding. I had never seen anything like it. That day, I was struck by the knife cupid.
About a year later I purchase my first knife. It was a Spyderco Endura, with a G-2 serrated blade, a back lock, and a black plastic handle with the built-in clip. It was my baby. We worked many years together and she served me very well. Today, I have many more knives, but she was my first and she is still with me.

It would be a shame if it's just going to sit in a box tucked away, never to see the light of day. Especially when it comes to the quality and precision they put into their blades. Like all knives they are tools. Hope to hear in the future you are cutting everything and anything with your RockStead.

Fun episode! The knives that makes me smile is not the most expensive, the sharpest, the most exclusive knives I own, it is the Esee Izula VG I bought from you guys, put it to work, cut, slice, scrape, baton it, drop it, puncture something with it. Wow it takes it all. A well made, well designed knife. Easy to sharp too, the magic of a well treated 1095. The other one is the Boker plus Atlas with copper handle, reminds me of the pocket knives of old, something my grandfather would use.

Bittersweet video for me, I absolutely loved it but it brought back so many memories of my adored Sebenza from 2001, Devin Thomas damascus on a lovely burl inlaid handle, I carried that thing for almost 20 years as the proud pinnacle of my collection and something I was willing to use hard, until I finally managed to lose it irretrievably. Not sure I will ever forgive myself for that and I will absolutely guarantee you there were literal tears when I realised it was gone. I'm not in the same position I was then and just cannot afford something on that level which makes it even worse, but hopefully someday in the future I can give myself another chance at a CRK. Thanks so much for the video, you guys are SO far ahead of the general 'industry shopfront YT channel' that it's almost unbelieveable.

I bought a smaller version of the Camillus - the Blaze 3.00 (also designed by Darrel Ralph) - on the advice of my brother at an NRA show in Pittsburgh around 2007 or so. Mine has a partially serrated blade of 440 steel and was made in Spain. My brother favors that blade style. After about 10 years of constant use, everything gummed up, and I stopped using it. I since have serviced it, and it works fine again. Now, it seems tiny compared with other knives.

Hey, DCA - regarding that Camillus... One of my knives that make me smile is my USA-made Camillus Darrel Ralph Robo-Power Cuda Dominator American Tanto with a Titanium handle. Super-long name, right? It's an assisted-opener as well, the first I'd ever tried - it's actually very nice but I'd never buy another assisted model. S30V steel and I actually used it to cut carpet out when installing gun-safes in peoples walk-in closets. Very tough working knife. Now, I've made an error - the blade has not been centered for some time so I tried to disassemble and fix it - and found (gasp!) nylon washers - guess that explains the centering issue. Need to swap them for bronze ASAP! My first venture into "upgrading" a knife. Enjoyed the video! Keep the fun and interesting sharp-thing topics comin'...

@@Nudel-nc1cp Thanks for the advice! I didn't know knives existed with removable flippers. After reading your comment, I found Lionsteel's removable flipper ReF knives and the Myto series looks promising as an EDC; although quite a bit more expensive than my originally planned budget. I wonder if there's enough blade sticking out when it is closed, so I can open it without using the flipper. They don't seem to come in versions with nail nicks. But it looks like a great option. The Myto Aluminium red ''puts a smile on my face'' (one of the greater DCA catchphrases). Around 200 Dollars... But then there's Xmas coming. A good reason for a nice gift to oneself ;) Thanks again for your help.

      @Nudel-nc1cp 3 роки тому

      @@DerDuger Your welcome.
Well you don't need to worry about two hand deployemnt of the blade when its closed because it is still a frame lock knife. The blade running on ball bearings and it's hold on closed position by detent ball which is much easier to deploy than traditional slipjoint. So I think there's no need for nailnick on the blade itself. Ofcourse Xmas is great opportunity to spend a bit more and ''justify'' your purchase. :D

My (full size) Nilaka had it's edge damaged the very first time I used the knife. I did not abuse the knife in any way and was very disappointed in Spyderco for producing a knife that couldn't take normal usage without also taking damage.
Then l did some internet investigation on the Nilaka and found out the reason for the knife's performance and the simple solution of putting a bevel to the "zero grind" thereby giving some strength to the edge. Simple solution for a great knife.
My Nilaka is still razor sharp and now capable of (some) bushcraft demands.

Hi guys wanted to know a carbon steel or stainless for Caribbean bushcraft or island high humid or wet environments. Not sure if coated would be better but a stainless coated would also be nice.

The two words on DCA’s fifth knife blade is Chinese character: 飛龍. It means flying dragon, great vid and great knife 😂

As I poor student I cherish my bushcraft knife a Casström Lars Fält, big, solid and beautifully simplistic.

I was given a handcrafted knife and custom sheath. The knife handle itself was formed from some animal femur and I couldn't speak for the blade steel itself either, but it's my absolute favorite and I wouldn't part with it for anything

Spyderco Pochi. I don't have one, but they are cute as hell, and I want one.
Cool blades, guys...except for that last hideous thing.

What about "You can buy a Sebenza?!?" When will they be back in stock, I've had my order in for months! I'm like a kid waiting for my shipment notification, lol.

I waited was quite a while to get my large sebenza 31 in s45vn and wood inlays. Was well worth the wait.
Am now the proud owner of four crk's. Hope you get your knife soon.

@@abc456f Thanks. I have the black micarta inlay on order. I think nearing 4 months now maybe. Feels like an eternity, but it'll be worth the wait. I did miss out on the KC exclusive Shiragorov though. I was going to pick it up after I got my Sebenza, and then I got tired of waiting so I went to order the Shiragorov and it was sold out finally after months of sitting there, guess it wasn't meant to be :(

@@excatI've been thinking hard about getting a shiro. I know eventually I'll pull the trigger, but so far the most I've spent on a knife is $635 so it will be a big jump. Also been eyeing a Herman knife from Poland.
I don't have any true customs and I'd like to add one to the collection.

@@abc456f I'll be going Shiro, then Rockstead. I think I'll end up with 2 or 3 Rockstead, and I will carry and use them. Then I may pick up a few other models of CRK after I fill the Rockstead itch. Gotta get this Sebenza in first though, lol.

@@excat You're a better man than me cause I don't think I'd be able to use a rockstead if I had one. It would kill me to put even a little mark on one of those beauties.
