Drug addicts wanted to rob us at knife point. Great thing was the attackers ran as soon as they saw me whipping out my xl espada. Fight won by intimidation.thats my cold steel moment. while i really doubt that happened, if it did, you should be questioning why you weren’t carrying a gun. if you truly care about protecting yours you would absolutely do so.
@@acid6urns believe what you may. Its a common occurrence in South Africa being robbed at knife point by druggies. My espada xl has saved me twice and my 4max scout once from being robbed recently. All you need most of the time is the intimidation of a big knife. The other day there was three blokes in a car following me whilst I was walking at night. I whipped out my 4max scout, turned around and gazed at them. I heard the front passenger tell the driver “he has a knife, leave, lets go!”. So believe what you want. I can talk from experience that a big knife works to intimidate your opponent. There are strict gun laws in South Africa and if you are white the cops tend to side with the criminals. The criminals have more rights than the law abiding citizens.

That Espada is designed after Spanish navajas and it’s pretty spot on!! Spanish citizens used them as fighting knifes because the government banned fixed blades, so old navajas had ratchets that clanked open. Very unique. Another great modern take on the navaja is the Kershaw Strata
You are right about the shape, but the size is a monstrosity. As a spaniard I feel kinda embarrased that they used the navaja shape for such a gimmicky knife.

DCA is great. Very knowledgeable and helpful. I've bought several knives, based on his opinions. Also, I always read several reviews. Please ALWAYS mention the price. Most of us are not willing to pay $700 for a knife. My personal limit is $200, or less. I've bought many great knives for $100 or less. Thank you.

I’m a big fan of Cold Steel and Spyderco. I have 3 Cold Steel knives (Voyager Tanto XL, Spartan, OG Voyager Tanto) and 2 Spydercos (Delica & Harpy). My Delica is my EDC. Not surprised to see Cold Steel in a video on oversized pocket folders but I was surprised that the Spyderco Police Model did not make the list. It actually feels larger than a 4” blade and it’s definitely bigger than my 4” Cold Steel OG Voyager Tanto.
I have the Benchmade Adamas folder. Too large to be an EDC, but i have it strapped tonthr shoulder molles on my bug out bag. Bigger than a typical folder, smaller than a fixed. Thick and solid. Darn good knife.

The guys at the DBK youtube channel tested that cold steel espada to the limit. They cut a frying pan in half, batoned a log, and a bunch of other tests id have never thought it would survive. Its no toy, ill tell you that much. That video should be linked on the espada page, because your sales would double!
The Artisan Cutlery with the wharncliff and the Spyderco Yojimbo are both amazing cutting tools. Never underestimate the geometry and shape of the blade. Something about Wharncliffs makes them superior cutting tools. Think about the shape of your average utility razor blade and you’ll understand what I mean. 😉

No longer the fan boy of their stuff. But cold steel did huge better than most. I carried one ,or more for s/d and wanted reach. So the c/s Rajah 1 and 2 need to be in that group. Using the opening wave thing,really impresses the crap out of any. Especially those who insisted,never bring a knife to a gun fight.

I've always liked 4+ inch folders, and own many of them. I carry a Spyderco K2 a lot so I figured I'd seen big knives, then the Maxace Mammoth I ordered showed up in the mail. The box was so heavy, I seriously thought they had to have messed up and sent me 2 by mistake. I giggled for a full 30 seconds after opening the zipper pouch and flipped it until the lockbar destroyed my thumb to the point I physically could not unlock it anymore. I read all the stats, and watched all the videos waiting for it to show up, but none of them conveyed that feeling the first time I felt it in hand. Everytime I get a new Maxace, I feel like I know a secret that nobody else does. Granted, their designs are polarizing, but their materials, craftsmanship, and customer service are top of the line.
Echoed love for Midnight Cat/Maxace. I have three Mammoths, once the DLCed V4E came through, it was crucial. The new Adamas and SOG Seal XR have been a blast, the K390 P4s I am loving. Got two of the Lynn Thompson DLC full serrated Vaqueros in XHP. Finally got my Black Talon 2 serrated in XHP. A favorite of mine, and the knew serrated Kris Ti-Lite is no joke. Rajah 2 will always hold a place in my heart. Counterpoints are kicking much ass, Spartan is beloved. Rike M3s I am a major fan of. Rike in general kill it. Also Harnds with the Warrior and General, who've made me forget about my Recon 1s. A true cheapo that is worth owning a few of is the Boker Magnum kukri, that is not to be underestimated. Definitely want that G-10 Espada XL, and an Immortal in XHP, also the Colossus 2. TwoSun has some serious beasts; love the S90V Tentara karambit. I kind of wish there were more in-between art/tactical excaliburs, with more spine jimping and jimping in general aside from just the tabs and blade spines. SOG had the right idea with that SEAL. It puzzles me why all the hype and demand for minis, I want to see more XLs and XXLs, more V4E/CPM-4V. Would love to see a Lansky Responder XL on bearings in a demon steel, an XL Black Talon II, and an XL Harnds Beak, the ergs on that little dude are perfect. More tool steels, but COATED. They coat everything else that is highly corrosion resistant, which I digg, but so many tool steels are left bare. Absurd. CS should get back to XHP now that it's clear that apparent drought is beyond over.
The Cold steel is a direct copy of the Navaja dueling knives from Spain and the latin countries in the 18th and 19th century. Look at some of recent Scholargladiatoria videos.

That Reate T4K (@ 24:54) is quite the knife... I love when creators do the unexpected, be it a [good] twist ending in cinema, an unorthodox selection of media made into something more beautiful than any of its component parts ever were... Or an essentially symmetrical dagger-esque* blade on an otherwise asymmetrical knife. It's a neat idea as-is, but I think I'd really like it sharp on both sides, on a wide OTF. But the thing that kills this knife, IMO, is the slicing ability sacrificed for a completely superficial, cosmetic choice of blade. A high or full flat blade of that height would be an impressive bit o' kit, for sure. That'd bring increased potential utility, with a blade spine capable of comfortably seating a thumb, during harder use. Ironically, if equipped with a tall flat blade, the need for additional thumb pressure would likely be felt _far_ less often than it would with the blade in the video, with its giant hump it the way of smooth slicing. *OMG - after typing that, I realized I had, in my choice of descriptive suffix for "dagger," found a word that couldn't possibly be any closer to spelling _Dangeresque!_
Nice to see the larger folding knives get recognized! I am a Cold Steel fan, and all of my Cold Steel folders have 4"-6" long blades. Any blade length under 4" is too small for my taste. I have a Voyager Large Tanto, SR1 Lite Tanto, Immortal, and Counter Point XL. Various folders for various purposes. All of them work great! In fact, you could have a separate show on the Large and Extra Large Cold Steel knives alone! Thanks, DCA, for the video!

Another notable example is the Spyderco Navaja, designed by Ed Schempp. They even include the ratcheting sound.

Or an essentially symmetrical dagger-esque* blade on an otherwise asymmetrical knife. It's a neat idea as-is, but I think I'd really like it sharp on both sides, on a wide OTF. But the thing that kills this knife, IMO, is the slicing ability sacrificed for a completely superficial, cosmetic choice of blade. A high or full flat blade of that height would be an impressive bit o' kit, for sure. That'd bring increased potential utility, with a blade spine capable of comfortably seating a thumb, during harder use. Ironically, if equipped with a tall flat blade, the need for additional thumb pressure would likely be felt _far_ less often than it would with the blade in the video, with its giant hump it the way of smooth slicing.
*OMG - after typing that, I realized I had, in my choice of descriptive suffix for "dagger," found a word that couldn't possibly be any closer to spelling _Dangeresque!_

Yes Cold Steel knives are very scary. I personally own a set of Spartans. Cold Steel also has some very good knives for law enforcement

Nice to see the larger folding knives get recognized! I am a Cold Steel fan, and all of my Cold Steel folders have 4"-6" long blades. Any blade length under 4" is too small for my taste. I have a Voyager Large Tanto, SR1 Lite Tanto, Immortal, and Counter Point XL. Various folders for various purposes. All of them work great! In fact, you could have a separate show on the Large and Extra Large Cold Steel knives alone! Thanks, DCA, for the video!

@@francismartino6890 Sorry it took me so long to reply to you. I had a friend to buy a Luzon Large. It is a nice knife, but would have been nicer if it had a TriAd lock in my opinion. Recently I added a Counter Point 1 and Voyager XL Tanto to my set.
I'd take the kukri-like Cold Steel Rajah 2 over the Opinel and Espada everytime. Two of them woul be badassery
