I don't know if I'm normal but I felt so emotional...actually teary watching this even though I never met him..aww what a legacy..truly a good name is more than wealth! rest on papa, and one chilled bottle of Gulder for the narrator...that voice made this even better...kudos!
May his soul rest in peace. My Professor / Dean of Faculty, Kola Kusemiju of UNILAG did feasibility studies on his fisheries / Shrimp businesses while I was doing my Master's Degree program. That was my first encounter with him. Later, Stanley McEbul who worked for the brother, as Co-owner of Guardian Newspaper invited me to their office. There I met Alex Ibru for the first time. Stanley was a close friend to my friend, in 1981, by name, Jonny Uchendu of Anambra State. We all partied together. Stanley promised me a job with Micheal Ibru's fisheries, requesting that I do my PhD program as well. I was done with book-work and needed a break! These were all close friends. You cannot get to the Ibrus without Stanley.
Hmmm, I am a confirmed student of Michael and Cecilia ibru university. Though I haven't met with the Charismatic Icon, But I bet with his biography, he is a man of Intelligence... I pray only for God to lift me the way he lifted, for me to help my parents and Siblings like you did in humbleness... Amen.
We are following in your footsteps sir. May your gentle soul rest in peace. I am not happy your family mismanaged the bank and lost it in the 2009 crisis. But it's well. I hope they find their way back to greatness .
He was Nigeria's largest private employer. The urhobos are the 5th largest ethnic group in Nigeria and they are majority when you consider the fact that Nigeria has a minimum of 250 ethnic groups.
Johnny wanted to marry me. I was still in my first year at UNILAG. He took me around to his friends, senior brother in Surulere-Lagos, everywhere. His senior brother wanted him to marry from his State, Anambra. I knew it. So, I bolted away. He would remain a good friend. Very classy, no-nonsense kind of man. Johnny would not let me travel to the East to see my parents and family members. He would want me to spend summer vacation with him in Lagos. I was running my Father's business from his first house where I temporarily stayed. In fact, I helped him move in to the place along Ogulana road, S/Lere. Johnny's sister, Angela, who was working at Nigerian Airways at that time became my best buddy. We would all travel with my cousin, Oby Jones Anyiam to Badagry to Coutonu to buy laces and resell to make extra money. Learning how to trade during my summer vacation was fun. Thanks to Johnny Uchendu. I still love you!
Alex, Micheal were so exceptional. They kept me laughing while at their office in Lagos. Stanley who liked my dressing, seeing me with Johnny Uchendu, was really nice. They were all so polished. I got to like them because of their American intunuation / accent, way of mannerism, respect for human rights. I am so honored to have mingled with these classy folks as a young lad while I was under 20 years.
After my Mum and Dad as my mentors who I am very so proud of Olorogun Michael Ibru is the only other person... Not because he is wealthy but because was kind, genorouse and helpful attributes you hardly find in wealthy people he has 206 companies at his peek if that ain't greatness I don't know what is... Rest in perfect peace legend legend
