Surrendering is letting the opponent know that you are not a threat to them anymore. If you already are no threat to begin with - it doesn't really add much to the equation. Would you shoot at somebody who is busy swimming so he cannot put his hands up to signal he's surrendering?

Battleships were covered with guns of various sizes and in various places, and the British were engaging from several kilometres away. It was not obvious that the Bismarck was going to sink until the torpedoes were used. In the no man's land of Danish waters, ceasing fire to wait for the ship to slowly flood and transferring hundreds if not thousands of sailors was not a sensible option. German U-boat operations were in full swing by mid 1941. Unfortunately, it was very difficult to sink a battleship with surface fire only, as there was very little damage below the waterline. When the British realised that shellfire was not going to do the job, they finished Bismarck with torpedoes.

And the more the power balance is in your favor, the more you are obliged to do so in my book: The British had so many ships versus the outnumbered Germans that basicly the biggest concern was whether you got your guns to fire once during the battle. Under such circumstances accidently murdering people because you didn't stop soon enough is less excuseable than in general. And who isn't to say that the British didn't fire on helpless men intentionally? After all that doesn't seem to have been an outlandish idea to British officers following a victorious engagement ... even Wikipedia can't help but state: "there are numerous documented cases of the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force deliberately firing upon shipwreck survivors."
The German BB's are a blast to play. They encourage brawling while discouraging sniping, and to me, that is more enjoyable. Thanks for doing this video for those who may not be familiar with the line yet. Keep up the good work!
I enjoy battleships quite alot, but I play very aggressive and like to get up close and use my large guns to 1-shot cruisers, even though I tend to play US I hate sitting any further then 15km out of the main cluster-fuck, I tend to sit around 6-7km out (in the NC I also hug islands and use my stealthy 11km detection range to strike at enemy BB's)
I will say I loved the Bismarck. I played the heck out of that ship. When I got to the Friedrich Der Grosse though I was really disappointed. Terrible rudder shift, horrendous accuracy and slow acceleration deacceleration times. Pretty much just a larger hull with Bismarck's guns and engines. Really quite sad about it.
Speaking of tailoring, after my Secondaries-Build captain from Gneisenau got promoted to the Bismarck, I made an AA-Build with Gneisenau. Originally just for fun and testing, but it's an AA beast (way over 90 AA rating) and now with all those lower tier Kaga & Enterprise planes, it's even more funny.
I just want to say that I think your video's are some of the best out there. I get a ton of enjoyment and most importantly information on all the ships you do. It has helped improve my play exponentially. Thank you for the hard work you do.
Shaka kuchiki 10km secondaries range at T7? and add to that torpedoes at 6 km? When its on a tier where the closest BB speed of your counterpart is 5+ knot slower. Its gonna make the ugly sisters a very OP ship tier by tier.
Shaka kuchiki Though the lower and mid tier german BB need a buff for their sec range. I'm not talking about 7km base range sec, but make it to be 6km base range sec is pretty good and will thicken the main flavor of german BB line.
Going to have to respectfully disagree on your concealment blurb. I used to think the same thing but certain ships like G.K. the concealment module is really a moot point. That's not to say target acquisition isn't lousy, but unless you're stacking concealment with CE you're sort of just wasting a module slot. Furthermore, the guns are always going, you're probably blazing secondaries, and you're usually on fire, thus increasing the detect to insane levels anyway.
The thing I love about this line is that each one of the ships is a pleasure to play. Ive found that this really doesn't have distinct tiers where the ships are frustrating to play unlike the US and IJN lines. They may be very different from tier to tier, but it seems that each ship is very good at something, if not multiple things. The Bismarck is an absolute joy to play and will always have a permanent spot in my port. I'm currently up to the Friedrich Der Grosser at tier 9 and I believe she has replaced Iowa as my favorite tier 9 BB. I just cant wait to get the Grosser Kurfurst, Ive played her on the test server and shes such an amazing ship. I don't think I can say I prefer her over Yamato, but she comes pretty close.
Notser says concealment in all his ships - including the German Brawlers. I rather do target acquisition on the GK specifically. It's too large to conceal. Of course he did say - its personal choice. Great Video.
Has a japanese cruiser player, the german battleship line is the one I am the most effrayed of, those BB can do a lots of damage to you in secondes with there guns , torpedo and there secondaries will set you on fire really often.
I mean, playing my Tirpitz somehow I doubt it really has 32mm bow armor. I've received multiple citadels while bow-on to a target. Had a NoCal smack me for 30k from a salvo with me bow-on from about 9km out. I then returned fire with the forward guns and despite him being under 10km and 100% broadside, two shots dunked in the water, one bounce on his belt, one overpen through the superstructure. Lovely. Still a great ship, but damn is there a hole in the bow? It's not the only time it has happened to me.
Joe Average but under 10km, wouldn't it barely start plunging? at that range it should be hitting at a very steep angle. It also doesn't explain how it also punched through to the citadel. not sure if just a ridiculously lucky shot or if I'm doing something wrong.
Schmeethe88 NC shells are VERY heavy and VERY slow. Ira very possible to cause citadels through decks, even at that range. Even if it isn't a citadel the penetration damage of a single she'll can reach over 5000 dmg

i remember my first game in the gneisenau i came from the scharnhorst , i shot 70 + shells i got only 3 hits , i missed a broadside cruiser 5 km away .I never felt more useless and to this day i hadn't touched it .
The FDG I've just unlocked and it really pales after the Bismarck. Armor is very chewy, it's quite a bit less maneuverable and if you want the rear guns to fire you need to overangle and battleships will have no problem getting through the meager belt armor, especially given how big it is. If people are shopping for one of the premiums I'd say Scharnhorst all day. It's top tier most of the time due to OP tier 7 MM. It's ungodly fun once you realize you can't use the guns like on a true BB and you can pull sick torpedobeats with rudder shift mod, it turns like a lower tier USN BB that goes 30 kts :D
Because the FDG plays in a meta where T9/10 BB's are snipers, T9/10 cruiser players shoot behind islands due to their great shell arc and T9/T10 DD's have great torpedoes or guns that start a lot of fires. Catch them in the open under 14km without advantages mentioned earlier and you will see how powerful this ship is. BTW, if you are top tier those 420's will cut through every ship class like butter. :D
AlexCT Yeah, high tier right now is all about choosing the cancer you want to die from : HE spamming surface clouds, fish soup or citadels from 15km away :D I use the 406 for madz DPMz since there are no real overmatch advantage from one over the other, I like a more forgiving reload. Yesterday I citadeled a GK in my Yamato...... 26km away so yeah the rewards for kemping bush are a little too great. On the other hand my FDG secondaries got me a witherer medal for the first time ever in a battleship, I was livid lol.
Well I don't know how DDs get matched and YMMV but with BBs it's quite spectacular somehow. I'd have to count but the Scharn gets top tier 2 out of 3 times... While as soon as you hit tier 8, wham, you get the usual stuff and get tier 10 half the time. I don't play my Myoko clones much but MM seems more favorable than the Atago/Takao as well. Because of that weird tier 5 MM that either gets tier 4-5 or the whole tier 5-6-7 and need 7s to plug the holes. Same kind of reason why tier 6 is the worst... You're almost never top tier (that would be only 5-6 since 4s can't see 6s) ... Instead it's always 5-6-7 or 6-7-8 ... The absolute most of the time 6s are not top tier :(
I was curious, how many plane kills did you destroy, at most, in the Großer Kurfürst, Noster ...I somehow gotten 58 as my record.... And this is with the secondary and aa hybrid build...
Um, I might be wrong, but the Bismarck u showed I’m fairly sure is the Tirpitz due to its anti aircraft guns on 2 of the main batteries, which I’m fairly sure the Bismarck didn’t have.
tirpitz AA is bad, but I once used it with manual AA and shot down 43 aircraft that match. sadly you can't really run that build anymore since you wanna have manual secondaries instead.
I know it's probably a minority opinion but for me the Gneisenau is the ship i perform the best in and has became my favourite ship of all time game wise and history wise XD, IDK why but i love it's guns i know its not true but i always feel on target and the six guns feels like its telling me to get better at aiming or suffer a watery grave. I always feel a rush when playing her and i've had some of my most exciting games with her XD in conclusion GNEISENAU IS BAE!!!!

So this is all well and good and this comment doesn't reflect the video itself but WG and the NA server. Wargaming either has let or has themselves put bots into non-coop battle. why? NA server population was falling so severely that it would take a long time to get a game. My assertion is that WG added their own bot like players into the game for faster turn around times on waiting for a battle. If you notice a lot of ships have the same Modus operandi on play method, also they don't generally cap a point unless driving through it. My friend and I spammed chat in a match only to have one other person complain about the spamming (we did this for 15 of the 19 minutes). I program and have made my own bot (not for warships but for EvE online) so for me (maybe) it's easier to see the repetitive repeat motions. The other side of the coin is the possibility that the chinese gamers are running farms. (The chinese are notorious for cheats and XP farming in just about every game I've seen them in). There are chinese hacks out there that inject on top of the game allowing ESP and aim assisted lead line with the ability to lock onto that lead line for perfect aim. The hack also gives you a trajectory to avoid incoming fire or diminish the effects of it (bots have this ability as well - of course). My mate hit the "3" key (torps) and the ship he had targeted immediately went evasive before he could even drop the beauties. There is a reload indicator so when a ship or ships are in visual range you can see how long they have left until reload. This is same path that World of Tanks went down. it's a multi-million dollar business. WG doesn't really actively pursue banning until it taps their revenue stream.
One year late I know. But for a period I've seen many BBs strangely turning (from sailing straight for a long time) as soon as I hit "3" in my DDs, or even more suspicious, as soon as my torps were in the water (meaning, they didn't see the (1) sign disappear, that usually says "a dd has switched to torps on you").
I hope WG will replace the gun selection of the T10 with historical 480mm guns at some point. Because it's just stupid right now to have a american Montana clone as the german T100 when even the Brits get a more german-like ship as T10 than the germans. >.>
yeah it's easy to punish straight on sailing germans, i tend to sail at a very acute angle baiting to shoot the side instead and then angle in when they bite, it's safer than sailing full bow on into an enemy
Harrison Fisher spec secondaries, concealment is ok, adrenaline rush is a must have. Why? Because in close with a ton of secondaries that fire faster and faster the more you get damaged? Amazing. Also, "close" if spec'd right is 10.6km.
I follow my DDs to the cap, while making sure that not EVERYBODY can shoot at me and there is a way out for me. The secondaries cover the capture point and I also try to shoot at enemy DD when he is visible. Then it is an issue of gaging how aggressive you can push forward. I try to push in as much as possible, while making sure that I don't die pointlessly& still can dish out a lot of pain. Often times that means that I have to turn around at some point, kite enemy BB(while secondaries whittle him down) and heal back up as much as possible. Pulling the aggro of enemies and tanking a shit ton of damage is worth a lot for the team imo. Making sure that nobody can get a good broadside on you is key. As long as they don't citadel(or torp) you, you reduce the amount of people that can shoot at you and you still remain angled even to the guys you charge at, you are surprisingly tanky.
FdG is based on H-39 (with stock guns) and H-41 (with upgraded guns) while GK is based on H-42 but with fictional triple guns. H-44 would be badass to see with 500mm guns.
Well actually IFHE isn't a huge buff considering they already get that German caliber/4 benefit. The 155 secondaries can already pen everything 38mm and below which is everything besides some IJN and German BB decks. I usually focus DDs and cruisers with the secondaries because they can shred then to pieces on top of burning everything down. Against battleships they're really about setting fires, not so much causing huge damage and IFHE nerfs the fire chance quite a bit on top of being a very expensive skill. You'd have to sacrifice another 4-point skill for it. If I manual a BB I'll do it at the far end of my secondary range : 1. They're big and slow enough that they won't miss much. 2. the shells arc down onto the deck and superstructure and do cause damage. 3. your secondaries won't fire bow-on and you really should be bow on against a BB at short range ;) When getting into an intimate brawl with another BB they do much less damage. I'll usually click a nearby cruiser if there's one.

I'm playing the German battleships just to have a Bismark in my Harbor. All of my other ships are Japanese, but got to have me a Bismarck!
I don't have Japanese ships, but i remain using the Gneisenau and Bismarck.

Um, I might be wrong, but the Bismarck u showed I’m fairly sure is the Tirpitz due to its anti aircraft guns on 2 of the main batteries, which I’m fairly sure the Bismarck didn’t have.
I wonder what the British BB secondarys will be like.
tirpitz AA is bad, but I once used it with manual AA and shot down 43 aircraft that match. sadly you can't really run that build anymore since you wanna have manual secondaries instead.
Tirpitz AA needs buff.

I know it's probably a minority opinion but for me the Gneisenau is the ship i perform the best in and has became my favourite ship of all time game wise and history wise XD, IDK why but i love it's guns i know its not true but i always feel on target and the six guns feels like its telling me to get better at aiming or suffer a watery grave. I always feel a rush when playing her and i've had some of my most exciting games with her XD in conclusion GNEISENAU IS BAE!!!!

So this is all well and good and this comment doesn't reflect the video itself but WG and the NA server. Wargaming either has let or has themselves put bots into non-coop battle. why? NA server population was falling so severely that it would take a long time to get a game. My assertion is that WG added their own bot like players into the game for faster turn around times on waiting for a battle. If you notice a lot of ships have the same Modus operandi on play method, also they don't generally cap a point unless driving through it. My friend and I spammed chat in a match only to have one other person complain about the spamming (we did this for 15 of the 19 minutes). I program and have made my own bot (not for warships but for EvE online) so for me (maybe) it's easier to see the repetitive repeat motions. The other side of the coin is the possibility that the chinese gamers are running farms. (The chinese are notorious for cheats and XP farming in just about every game I've seen them in). There are chinese hacks out there that inject on top of the game allowing ESP and aim assisted lead line with the ability to lock onto that lead line for perfect aim. The hack also gives you a trajectory to avoid incoming fire or diminish the effects of it (bots have this ability as well - of course). My mate hit the "3" key (torps) and the ship he had targeted immediately went evasive before he could even drop the beauties. There is a reload indicator so when a ship or ships are in visual range you can see how long they have left until reload. This is same path that World of Tanks went down. it's a multi-million dollar business. WG doesn't really actively pursue banning until it taps their revenue stream.
One year late I know. But for a period I've seen many BBs strangely turning (from sailing straight for a long time) as soon as I hit "3" in my DDs, or even more suspicious, as soon as my torps were in the water (meaning, they didn't see the (1) sign disappear, that usually says "a dd has switched to torps on you").
I hope WG will replace the gun selection of the T10 with historical 480mm guns at some point. Because it's just stupid right now to have a american Montana clone as the german T100 when even the Brits get a more german-like ship as T10 than the germans. >.>

yeah it's easy to punish straight on sailing germans, i tend to sail at a very acute angle baiting to shoot the side instead and then angle in when they bite, it's safer than sailing full bow on into an enemy

Getting the Bismarck coming from the amagi, it feels weird. It definitely is a different play style. The guns just feel unreliable. Any tips for me?

Harrison Fisher spec secondaries, concealment is ok, adrenaline rush is a must have. Why? Because in close with a ton of secondaries that fire faster and faster the more you get damaged? Amazing. Also, "close" if spec'd right is 10.6km.
I follow my DDs to the cap, while making sure that not EVERYBODY can shoot at me and there is a way out for me.
The secondaries cover the capture point and I also try to shoot at enemy DD when he is visible.
Then it is an issue of gaging how aggressive you can push forward. I try to push in as much as possible, while making sure that I don't die pointlessly& still can dish out a lot of pain.
Often times that means that I have to turn around at some point, kite enemy BB(while secondaries whittle him down) and heal back up as much as possible. Pulling the aggro of enemies and tanking a shit ton of damage is worth a lot for the team imo.
Making sure that nobody can get a good broadside on you is key.
As long as they don't citadel(or torp) you, you reduce the amount of people that can shoot at you and you still remain angled even to the guys you charge at, you are surprisingly tanky.
WG,Where's the H-Class Battleship?
FdG is based on H-39 (with stock guns) and H-41 (with upgraded guns) while GK is based on H-42 but with fictional triple guns. H-44 would be badass to see with 500mm guns.

Well actually IFHE isn't a huge buff considering they already get that German caliber/4 benefit. The 155 secondaries can already pen everything 38mm and below which is everything besides some IJN and German BB decks. I usually focus DDs and cruisers with the secondaries because they can shred then to pieces on top of burning everything down. Against battleships they're really about setting fires, not so much causing huge damage and IFHE nerfs the fire chance quite a bit on top of being a very expensive skill. You'd have to sacrifice another 4-point skill for it.
If I manual a BB I'll do it at the far end of my secondary range : 1. They're big and slow enough that they won't miss much. 2. the shells arc down onto the deck and superstructure and do cause damage. 3. your secondaries won't fire bow-on and you really should be bow on against a BB at short range ;)
When getting into an intimate brawl with another BB they do much less damage. I'll usually click a nearby cruiser if there's one.
It's amazing you made it to the tier 8 German BB line and still don't know how to make a secondary build lol

the torpedo tubes of Gneisenau and Scharnhorst are pretty weak, even get easily destroyed by DD's guns.
Why care about air detection, when planes only can spot up to 11 km ?
I do believe the FdG have worse vertical dispersion than the Bismarck.
