God, he is so lovely, all nervous, and laughing and modest and clever! Quite the opposite of Cecil...And they are both having such a great time in this interview, I love this video!
His portrayal of Cecil was wonderful and so perfectly drawn. I love seeing how different actors are in real life from the characters they play. The contrast here couldn't be sharper. Goes to show what a tremendous job he did with Cecil.
"My Beautiful Laundrette's" Johnny was followed by Cecil Vyse of "A Room With A View". Two roles that appear to be at the opposite ends of the universe. DDL went on to inhabit one astonishingly unique role after another.
LOL! I thought I was the only one who was in love with that scene! Whenever I watch this movie (which is embarrassingly often), I always end up rewinding more than once so I can watch him swat that bee away over and over. Hilarious.
DDL's interpretation and characterization of Cecil in RWAV stands out as this singular jewel of a performance. Whereas the rest of the cast moved brilliantly in syncopation as a cohesive unit both in tone and texture. Daniel played Cecil stylistically different and set a delightfully incongruous tone and timing against the rest of the cast . Bumping into the other characters like an awkward moment in every scene. Then, on his final moment as he sits down on the stairs after being rejected by Lucy, he slows down and imbues his character with smoothness, reverence, depth and authenticity.
This dude is truly the "Best Actor in the World" cause he can play "Cecil" and "Newland Archer" but can also play "Bill the Butcher" and "Daniel Plainfield" and also "Christy Brown" and "Lincoln". HE really have a great range.
"I have no profession. My attitude - quite an indefensible one - is that as long as I am no trouble to anyone, I have the right to do as I like. It is, I dare say, an example of my decadence" - Cecil Vyse lmao. Cecil is the GOAT in this movie
how he says he feels for Cecil reminded me of something Merl Street said on the dvd extras of Kramer vs, Kramer about her charachter. That she felt like she needed to protect her charachter because she was so vulnerable. Both amazing actors.
are you kidding ?? lol it's so hilarious sometimes to hear the comments of someone younger... no offens,e but he was gorgeous always to people my age, we always think of him as hot as in that era especially in Last of the Mohicans
He's so... smiley here. It's so awesome. And it looks (soley judged on eighties fashion :D) like he was taken from the year 2000, and put on a couch back in time... My god, where did I come up with that? But anyway... I mean he doesn't look very eighties. At all...
I was so annoyed by his character in the film. I didn't know it was Daniel Day Lewis until I saw the credits. It was well played, though, and at the end I felt really bad for Cecil.
Despite everything, I really like Cecil (mainly because it's DDL) because he's politely asking her consent to kiss her while the "other one" just assaults her when nobody's watching. That was meant to be romantic at that time, but after 20th century we're so done with that aggressive manly fowardness we're going back to the better old values, I guess. DDL's roles are always timeless.
I think Daniel gave Cecil some humanity but also relished playing him and possibly modelled on pretentious people he knew. It’s also his comedic performance- the precious scene when he’s swatting flies or something whilst drinking tea. He’s certainly not taking himself seriously. 😮There’s an element of Oscar Wilde in the performance- and Daniel has proved since that he can do anything. The Last Mohican, the Mission, the Age Innocence and so may more ,
HBC is STUNNING in this clip. I love this movie, but I find the Cecil character so wimpy. LOL. Great acting by DDL. Again, I think HBC is the most beautiful woman I've seen since the 80s. Her acting is phenomenal too.
When I watched that movie I couldn't take my eyes off Cecil. I couldn't care less about the love story between Lucie and the blond Mr. What's-His-Name. I kept saying "Alright alright, elope to Italy or wherever already. Just give me Ceciil!!"
Lucy Honeychurch definitely had VERY VERY VERY BAD TASTE. I watch the movie over and over and I can't understand why she prefers George -well, I know it's a novel😉😉😉😉😉😉
@@luciabarreda7776 Mr Day-Lewis said it best. Cecil was pompous. Look at him with the bee outside in "Lying to George". He didn't like the Miss Allens either. End of story.
I don't think it negatively reflects on anyone for wanting to play Cecil Vyse or seeing themselves in him. The character showed great capacity to reflect and learn about himself. He was dynamic. He saw the error of his ways. I did feel sorry for him when he had to suddenly face his reality and in a slightly embarrassing way.
I love thin and tall men, and Daniel is perfect ... In the movie "A Room with a View" He was gorgeous, if I was there he did not escape me ...hahahahaha...
"Or would you rather play Hawkeye, and run through the woods shooting and tomahawking people, Daniel?" "Ummm, I would rather climb cliffs and shoot people, thank you"
To be honest he hasn’t the faintest idea about the character he plays, it’s all just superficial crap 😅he was never in touch with Cecil. This is a sad 😢video
I am 58 and I have never seen a better movie in my life than Room with a View. Saw when I was around 21 y/o and it has been my favorite ever since.
Exactly the same for me except I was 23.
YES! I'm 60 and feel the same way!
A warm and interested interviewer. She asks appropriate questions and really listens. Daniel Day-Lewis is as ever the engaging gentleman.
I was thinking the same thing. The interviewer is very beautiful and professional. Her voice is very soothing and she was clever.
Her name is Debbie Greenwood. Former model turned TV presenter who seemed to be everywhere on British daytime TV in the 1980s.
God, he is so lovely, all nervous, and laughing and modest and clever! Quite the opposite of Cecil...And they are both having such a great time in this interview, I love this video!
What? Not sure how 'cleverness' has to do with anything here?
@@mareksicinski3726 Hi, Cecil.

What a lovely interview, both so charming.
He is soooo cute here. I giggled with delight through the entire thing.

Especially adorable when he laughs... lol
He has such a pleasant voice.
oh, and the interviewer asked very intelligent and good questions.
LOL! I thought I was the only one who was in love with that scene! Whenever I watch this movie (which is embarrassingly often), I always end up rewinding more than once so I can watch him swat that bee away over and over. Hilarious.
The character of Cecil Vyse was based on my great grandad, Bert Mumps. I'm so proud of DDL
My vote for best all around actor. And Room with a View my favorite of all time.
A truly fabulous actor and he seems such a lovely down to earth person! Hats off!
He was phenomenal as John Proctor in The Crucible. Rips your heart out.

his wife is so lucky:-)
Indeed.

He is unbearably adorable!
I can't believe that's him after watching "there will be blood"
Let’s hope for a sequel where we see the older Cecil reformed and happy.
wow i love him now but geez i wish that i was around in the 80's
He is soo hot and at the same time very elegant and charming.
wow this is one of his earliest interviews. thx for sharing.
The world's greatest male actor.
Oh! I love him! *sigh* Thanks for uploading!
He is so perfect
He is so sexy all the time but oh my god he is GORGEOUS with short hair here!!!
cecil is such a funny character
there's actually a passing reference to him in the book for howard's end 😅
I really need to watch this movie!
Have you seen it yet?
1:22 How did Daniel perfectly describe my life decades before it began
Such a precious guy
"I have no profession. My attitude - quite an indefensible one - is that as long as I am no trouble to anyone, I have the right to do as I like. It is, I dare say, an example of my decadence" - Cecil Vyse lmao.

Not exactly There Will Be Blood or Gangs of New York, but he is still one of the greatest actors ever
You can still hear some of the traces of Cecil lingering in his speech. Mustn't have been that long after he had finished the film
Daniel's... Cecil is brilliant character acting 👏..
he looks wonderful in every hairstyle (or lack thereof)
His best is his long hair around the early 90s though🙏
cuuute
Daniel Day Lewis great actor 👏👏👏🥰
it turns out I'm deeply attracted to Daniel Day-Lewis !
Brilliant mind
To be honest, I love Cecil more than George, must because of Daniel Day-Lewis.
Abigail He but he just want to own you ...like a painting
SAME 😍

she likes him
I like him too. He's so gorgeous
President Lincoln looks so young and healthy here. RIP Mr. President.
couldn't agree more.
I was so annoyed by his character in the film. I didn't know it was Daniel Day Lewis until I saw the credits. It was well played, though, and at the end I felt really bad for Cecil.
flyinglittleducks I didn't. Cecil Vyse was upper class and snobbish. Total prat in today's standards. Daniel Day Lewis played him fantastically.
I wonder what the Queen Mother thought of the bathing scene.
Smart man.

wow he looks a bit like Ewan McGregor in Trainspotting in this interview.
Aside from the short hair, that’s where the similarities end.
Nope, he was 28 or 29. He was born in 1957 (not 1951)
Poor Cecil😭
i think the presenter is debbie greenwood. definitely not liza tarbuck!

He looks 25 here or younger! DDL comes across as being a very sensitive quiet sort of guy in real life.

I......drink....your....MILKSHAKE!
He was good in the bounty
Is that debbie greenwood? My god, she was gorgeous
And a third son (actually his first) with Isabelle Adjani.
"The Age of Innocence" directed by Scorcese with DDL as a redeemed and much more sympathetic Cecil.
Who’s the interviewer? She’s hot! 😍😍
Cecil would get "jumped"...he'd be temporarily "awkward". I'd have him 🥰☺☺.
his accent definatley sounds different, right?
I thought he was Irish?
"Or would you rather play Hawkeye, and run through the woods shooting and tomahawking people, Daniel?"
"Ummm, I would rather climb cliffs and shoot people, thank you"
That clip is funny. I haven't seen the movie but having only watched that scene it looks really cheesy. I'm sure the movie as a whole is good though.
looks like Heath Ledger
his mannerism remind me of emma watson
He looks like james charles 😅😅
