As someone with an Icelandic, I must say that the spooking part is, in my experience, completely the contrary. Most horses run away, completely losing their head, while my Icelandic flinches, takes a look, thinks "Oh! Okay, won't eat me, let's just carry on" and that's it. Only thing that truly scares him is fire. Okay, and drones. And...he does have a VERY good, comfortable trot - all it took was good training.
It's the same with our ponies (two Haflinger Horses) and my own horse (Shagya Arabian). The Haflinger horses just flinch and stay calm, my Arabian mare prances, sometimes she jumps to the side. Luckily she doesn't run away. I don't know if I could parry her through.
@@valeriebreidenstein8362 Haha, right? My Icelandic is pretty hard to shock, but I guess it's natural selection, really. This looks so funny! I have not watched it to much yet, I was at a camp with a 16 hand horse, and everybody else's, horses were smaller, so I could get all the good fall leaves!♡😂
Funny! Although my experience is that the spooking is opposite, the horses spook, and you're in another county or have your head stuck between the top branches of a tree. The pony, just bounces up and down in place.
I had a pony(14.1) and a Morgan mix(~15) on winter lease last year. The Morgan had a relatively smooth trot, but I did prefer cantering on the pony more than the morgan.

Hey! I just found your channel about a week ago, I love your training style videos. I have a horse focused youtube channel and I was wondering if you had any tips on how I could get my channel growing. 🙂
I had a bad fall off a pony as a beginner rider My pony spooked for no apparent reason in the middle of a lesson with a large ride, galloped around the arena and eventually right at the gate where it abruptly jumped sideways. I flew straight at the gate and bashed into the top bar face first. Miraculously nothing broken but some teeth. Since then I’m in the horse camp.
The point about spooking is that ponies usually spook less. And while horses are all wound up for at least 15 minutes, Ponies usually forget what scared them after 10 seconds. 😁
