    • @ShadowsOnTheScreen

      Got it all installed today, and so far so good. When I cut the piece from the binder, I cut it to have the two tabs for the clear strip. I then cut the clear strip off of the old one by cutting the strip and the tabs complete off the old one. Glued it onto the new one and let it sit overnight. Working ok and the indicator lines up correctly. Thanks again for two great instructional videos!

    Can’t you cut out the indicator alongside the track and use a paint marker to create the indicator on the replica?

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  6 років тому

      The piece that slides on the indicator track is very thin and delicate. Its possible...not sure how long it would last. If you have the chance I recommend attempting it. When I was laying it over the plastic folder I was cutting out it seems that the upper and lower connections that hold it to the main cover were very narrow and it just seemed that it would not last. I have no issue with not having the indicator personally because I know what gears are what from experience but still something that I recommend someone trying and seeing how long it lasts. Thanks for watching and for the comment.

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  6 років тому

      The folder piece didnt extend over to the indicator portion.....you wouldnt have been able to see it. The factory piece uses a narrow clear strip with a red mark. I didnt think cutting that folder to that shape would hold up over time. I can easily tell what gear I am in so I had no worries.

    What is the little "slot" I guess you could call it, on the shifter. You can see it clearly at 10:57 ,it's directly across from the D to indicate drive. I would really like to know what it is if someone could help.

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  7 років тому +1

      Afternoon Matt.....that slot with the small cap/cover on it is the shifter interlock override. If the shifter will not move with the brakes depressed and the key turned in the ignition....then you remove that small cover and depress the override to move the shifter out of park. Hope that helped. Make sure to subscribe and check out my other videos.

    Could you in theory cut out the indicator area also?

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  6 років тому

      If you take your time you might be able to try. Just have to come up with something red to show the position. The back lighting might be an issue however....the original is clear and being the new piece it black....you wont be able to see the gear positions in the dark. Thanks for asking and make sure to subscribe

    • @christianmoody

      MotorCity Mechanic what he means is why didn't you just cut the old indicator off of the old one and glue it onto the new one??

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  6 років тому

      I felt that glueing the old section on most likely would hold up over time. The glue would most likely come loose from the constant sliding of it back and forth each time the shooter is moved. It being cut from one piece of material would be the best option. I don’t see the splicing of the two together holding up over time

    • @christianmoody
      @christianmoody 6 років тому

      MotorCity Mechanic I guess that may be true depending on what glue you use and how you attach it but I mean if we were really going for a more permanent solution, wouldn't you think it would be better to utilize something other than a cheap, flimsy dollar store plastic folder??
