unfortunately, google doesn't list recommended video ratios in their guidelines; you can totally upload 9:16 videos, but make sure you're happy with the way google crops them in the carousel in search
I have also heard of Handbrake, but it's a janky looking open source desktop download, so I never bothered with it. This free Veed tool does the trick easy peasy.
I uploaded multiple minute to minute-and-a-half videos just yesterday. I'm honestly not surprised it's the file size, because I don't think the upload system can detect video length easily.

What's the aspect ratio? Does the video have to be square? I'd like to upload 9:16 videos.

I know you recommend 1200 x 900 (1024 x 768) for post images because I watched that video, but what video dimensions are you recommending??
