SEO is far from dead in 2024 brother... it’s evolving!
AI might change the game, but the core principles of search remain the same which is to provide value, building authority, and connect with your audience. I would say YES diversifying strategies like incorporating UA-cam is smart, but dismissing SEO altogether? That’s a rookie mistake. Look, the future is about blending the best of both worlds: mastering SEO while leveraging the power of video content. All I will say is Adapt, but don’t abandon!!!!

Absolutely, including me. But there are ways around this.
If you think about it in terms of process, what you want is video content. You work backwards from this objective to figure out all the different methods available.
It will depend heavily on the product and audience. However I think EVERY business can benefit from video content as a medium, and being on youtube i.e. easily searchable. I am often trying to find comparisons between products for example, even boring products, because the description and photos are insufficient. Or maybe i'm not convinced.
You don't have to pour your entire marketing budget/time into it. You can allocate what you think is reasonable and adjust over time based on results and analytics.

    Depends on your audience.
As an ex-marketer for Apple and have grown multiple businesses I can say that not all audiences will be in UA-cam.
My primary audience are exclusively consuming information in the written form. The type to print articles so they can read on vacation (Wall Street journal, economist, MIT Technological review etc)
These type do not want to watch a video of any type.
I have 600 videos on UA-cam using the help of VidIQ to establish keywords, tags, titles and descriptions etc. also had a videographer, editor, high end equipment so they are all professionally shot; but only have 700 subscribers with minimal lead generation. It has been a time and resource sink.
My SEO has brought in 90% of our clients and establishing us as the professionals in the industry. This is how we get recognized for local awards and recognition as well.

Good video and makes total sense. Since AI content is flooding the web page creation process and the data is text based SEO is going to be extremely hard to thrive at. Personal branding will more more important than ever. UA-cam is obviously great at this since there is a feeling of connectivity with the creator. I'm glad I have focused most of my efforts into making a huge amount of videos. I still create blog posts but they always feel inferior to a good video.
Also, for those of you that are feeling apprehensive because video creation seems like a difficult thing to do, just get started and avoid any idea of perfectionism. I look back at my old videos and cringe but they were necessary to get going. Not saying my new videos are the highest quality but they improved immensely from sheer volume and taking feedback from my subscribers along the way.
Good luck to you and don't be a slave to AI tools. Shortcuts always come at a price. Just be yourself and make the content you would enjoy watching! Also, be extremely patient. Most people give up before they actually have time to succeed at something. Pick something that you will do when times are good and when times are bad and you will have your success along the way!

It's important to note that UA-cam and Google are both part of the same company, Alphabet Inc. While UA-cam has been expanding its services, such as taking over Google Podcasts, it serves a different purpose than Google's search engine. UA-cam is primarily a video-sharing platform, and while it has become a significant source of information and entertainment, Google's search engine remains a fundamental tool for web navigation and information retrieval. The two platforms complement each other and are likely to continue evolving to serve their users in interconnected but distinct ways.

Exactly, a lot of people no longer explore the links but many times stay with Google's short answers that are often totally wrong due to lack of context. At this point writing with AI is like the videos - it fools the uninitiated, but those that know real quality, can see through it. I think SEO is still valid on You Tube when people type a search term into the search bar. But as you point out, most videos are being watched by clicking on the recommended list of videos. And that list is based more upon your historical preferences.
However, I think the recommended list works more like the 6 degrees of separation rule. If I like watching videos about dogs but not cats, then YT will compare my viewing behaviour with other viewers who also like dogs but not cats. There is a high degree of overlap between me and another viewer. Simple union overlap of subsets maths. YT will then recommend me a non dog video that other person also likes because of our viewing similarity. For example, I might never have watched videos about bungee jumping, but because my counterpart matches my viewing behaviour by 60% on dog videos, the bungee jumping video they like will be added to my recommended list on the assumption we have similar viewing patterns.
YT subscriptions don't appear to do much these days. They seem to operate more like bookmarks than affecting our recommended list. There are some channels I've been subscribed to for years but their new videos don't appear on my list. I have to manually go back to their home page to view them.

I think you are correct that Google will make it where Chat GPT is the go to way for people to get the information that they want. Bloggers will have to be cross posting on the social media platforms more in order to be seen and will have to pay for ads. I turned my ads off seeing that I need to have the products in place before I try to grab my audience. Talk about putting the cart before the horse. I did that. So stepping back to create the products and determine where my audience will be after I get the website established. Thanks for teaching us through your videos. Great video, Wes! I've always believed that Google search would eventually evolve beyond its current form. While traditional search engines will likely persist for the next decade, we're heading toward a future where AI-driven fact-checking and real-time answers will dominate.
You're absolutely right about the significance of UA-cam ranking. As content creators, understanding how to optimize for UA-cam's algorithms is crucial. Additionally, PPC (pay per click) and social media ads are becoming increasingly vital for businesses, not just large corporations but also medium-sized enterprises.
Interestingly, Google's revenue heavily relies on PPC. They've been cautious about fully embracing AI in search because they want users to continue searching and clicking on ads. However, I wonder if their next move will involve allowing businesses to pay for visibility in AI-generated search results.
Your observation about people preferring human presence in videos is spot-on. As AI adoption grows, viewers will seek answers in visual formats, even if the content was initially generated by AI. It's fascinating to consider how SEO specialists will adapt their strategies to optimize content specifically for AI-driven search engines.

Also, blogging although it might be harder to get featured in the SERPs when you do the traffic will be much more qualified and more likely to convert into leads/sales. Yes people like to watch video content but people do also like to read blogs. Depends on where that person is in the sales funnel. YT is mainly for How to tutorials which is usually the top of funnel. IMO the goal is to get website visitors and sales. I have never bought a thing off anyone I searched a how to tutorial on YT for but I have ended up onto their sales funnels.
