    The Sony A6000 is a great, affordable camera. The high quality sensor and relatively low price make it popular among hobbyist photographers and professionals alike. For under $600 you can get the A6000 with the kit 16-50mm lens.
    But many people hate on the kit lens online. They criticize its sharpness, optical quality and vignetting. So what lens should you get if you want to upgrade from the 16-50mm?
    One popular option is the Sony 35mm f/1.8. It's the lens that I use almost exclusively for portraits and video work. It's super sharp and performs well in low light. But it costs around $450 USD.
    So how does the kit lens stack up against the 35mm f/1.8. That's the topic of this video. I do a portrait shoot with two friends to show a side-by-side comparison of the Sony A6000 kit lens vs the 35mm f/1.8. Which one do you prefer?

    yeah the bokeh & low light performance is amazing, I love shooting videos with it and shifting focus from one person to another, you are right about the sharpness

    The one at 3:17 with the kitlens and the one at 3:25 also with the kitlens are great! In fact, much better than the ones shot with the prime. I don't care about sharpness as for me the look (composition, light, depth and color) is everything.

    For portraits and closeups i like more a 50mm lens. I have the sigma 30mm F1.4 , sharp lens...but i don't use it much. I mostly use the kit lens for its versatility. For portraits and closeups a canon FD 50mm F1.4 which i absolutely love.

    • @mirrorlessny
      @mirrorlessny 6 років тому

      versatility is why I love the a6000 series cameras, combined with kit or 20mm prime lens its literally pocket friendly

    Great vid! I'm loving my 35mm 1.8. It's really fun! I love wide angle, too, so I'm using my old sigma 10-20mm for my old canon with an adapter. Ditto for the canon nifty fifty.

    How is the Neewer 35 mmf1.2 lens compared to Sony 35 mm f1.8 lens. Your comment is appropriated. Thanks!

    Great video. Any thoughts on more budget friendly 35mm lenses for the a6000 like the neewer?

      @DanBullmanPhotography  6 років тому

      Thanks! I haven't tried the Neewer lenses yet. Hoping to review them in the future. The sample images I've seen look pretty decent. If you're comfortable with manual focus and don't plan to shoot video with it, then it could be a good option.

    How do you get such bokeh with the kit lens on 3:02? If it's with an app or software, which did you use? Thanks for the great video btw

    So I mainly use the 16-50mm kit lens because I love the wide shots for travel, but I really love the sharpness of this camera. Is there anything similar (it doesnt have to be as wide but I like that about it) to the one I have but more sharp?

      Im not Dan but the kit lens is great, gear is somewhat important but now that you have a camera it's about the photographer.

    • @alanlopez570

      Gordymax honestly I’m not positive but I’m gonna take a educated guess and say he added the sharpness in post production (in other words, a editing app)

    • @mirrorlessny
      @mirrorlessny 6 років тому +2

      unfortunately the sharpness isn't as big of a factor even at HD resolution on youtube, especially watching on cellphones, 4k on laptor/desktop monitor/tv now that would be noticed right away

      Ease and cost mostly. I can achieve the look I want with my A6000 with less friction than film.
      I still enjoy shooting film but I don't do it as much anymore

    Genuine question. Now I understand that men like looking at women, that's a given. But what I don't get is why photographers go out and do random snapshots of young attractive women. Is it like photographic club tennis? You just do it because you enjoy doing it? That's not an insult, that's cool - we all need a hobby. Do the resulting pictures have a mutually beneficial use? Is it just done for the sake of youtube content. Where do you hope this will take you? Would you like to be a full time fashion photographer?

    • @DanBullmanPhotography
      @DanBullmanPhotography  6 років тому +1

      It's mutually beneficial and fun. We all get photos we like that we can share with friends and people online. I dunno where I'd like to take it exactly. But I'm enjoying shooting portraits for UA-cam, Instagram, etc

    • @spiralotus3606
      @spiralotus3606 6 років тому +1

      It's because our society is much more comfortable objectifying women than men. Not to sound rude, but it's kinda obvious...

    • @humptynumpty3957
      @humptynumpty3957 6 років тому +1

      Spira Lotus I get that bit. I just didn't understand why you'd want to spend your time doing pseudo 'fashion shoots'. Twenty years down the line what do you have to show for it that will be of any interest to anyone other than the subjects of the photographs. Mr Bullman explained that he basically does it for fun. That's cool. I can't help but think he's selling himself short photographically. Though Todd Hidos pictures of women are very compelling. But then what the fuck would I know. The UA-cam comment section isn't the place for reasoned discussion.

    • @niels6090
      @niels6090 6 років тому

      Not the place for reasoned discussion? Greatly depends on the channel you're visiting.
      So assuming you are into photography, based on you being here, let me ask you a question. What do you shoot and why? Plenty of people out there just crawling through bushes seeking out insects or flowers we've all seen before, but they still go out because they enjoy "the hunt" or the beautiful pictures they collect for themselves.

    • @mmarano203
      @mmarano203 5 років тому +1

      I'm not sure why there needs to be an "end goal".. Dan is making a living doing what he loves showing others how to improve upon doing what they love. I take pictures to capture the beauty of absolutely everything in life. Idk what your hobby or career is, but maybe you might appreciate everything a bit more if you opened your world up. There doesn't have to be a better reason for doing this other than because it's enjoyable for everyone involved.
