- how to restore a bicycle, restoring old and rusted bicycle, cycle restoration at home is demonstrated in this video. Have taken a 17 year old Hercules cycle for this and the final outcome is amazing with a military green color.
Step by stem dismantling, painting and assembly are demonstrated and hope this video will inspire and help many enthusiastic people to rebuild their ols bicycle.

I want to add drop bars and a new quill style stem to an old bsa photon slr later to be converted to a fixed gear bike when I can buy a fixie hub I wanted to know to to check the compatibility of the new stem with the bike i can't beasure the diameter and can't find a spec sheet with measurement for stem and handlebar diameters can you help
Hi Chinmay, The best way would be measuring the stem inner diameter with a vernier caliper or a nearby cycle mechanic can tell you the size.
And on the hub size- Most Indian bikes comes with a standard size. You can ask for a bsa rear hub and that will suite you bike. Happy to help if you have anymore queries.
@@DIYCommunity thanks but does a fixie cog can be fitten on a freewheel hub? Do I need to change the rear hub to a fixie hub or a flipflop hub as i have herd normal hubs don't have reverse threading for the lock ring also I saw a fixie conversion kit on Amazon by shimano is it worth it? Or a new hub will be better?
Hi, I see people make a easy way to make a fixie. Remove your freewheel and fix a single speed and just spot weld it on the corner. Later if you need remove the sprocket and change it to a single speed or a gear freewheel. This will be a fast and cheaper solution. I haven't used Shimano conversation kit and check for originality before you spend on them.
@@DIYCommunity update: i discussed it with a welder he told me it won't be safe as both hub and steel cog have different strengths so the cog will most probably just rip open the rear hub in time so I think I will still use it as a single speed and later buy a new flipflop hub

Everything is awesome, but y u not installed mud guard, any specific reason behind it.
Thank you. Mudguards had some dents and not painted that time. I have installed it later. No specific reason :-)

Hi, I did painting with help of a car painter. He managed to make this color with paints he had in his shop. I paid 1200/- for painting.

Hi, Thanks for your compliments. I paid him (professional car painter) rs.1500/- for painting frame and front fork (including paint). Rest I painted with a spray can.

Hi, appreciate that you want to restore your cycle. Hercules logo is one which comes with the cycle. Other stickers i made from a nearby sticker cutting shop where they do automobile number plates.

Hi, you can paint above the old paint but ensure you have roughened it's surface but using a soft emery sheet. Also if you see any damage in old paint the part surrounding should be removed and made a even surface. Hope this helps.

Hi, you atleast need 2 to 3 cans to paint it thoroughly (Atleast 3 coats ). The surface should be cleaned as mush as possible before you do a paint job.

Bro which paint you spray before paint black
Hi, if the surface has paint already then rub with 800grid emmery sheet and spray black. If you have removed the older paint completely then go for a base coat with metal primer then rub the surface and then with black spray paint.

Hi, you have to cut that at end and close with some metal piece and weld the holes. Then finish and paint with same color. This can be done with help of a welding shop friend.

Hi, fork and rear suspension springs are available in market for all sizes. Check one and replace to use your bike again. Earlier made builds are strong and rigid so use then as much as you can.

Hi, the older paint should be removed completely and the first 2 coats should be of primer. Then choose the color what you prefer and Atleast 2 costs of paint is required and a clear coat if you wish for a shiny look. I know this is a long process cannot be achieved with spray cans. Find a automotive painter who can help on this.

Hi, change the tyre and tube if they are week. Also its very important to Maintain correct air pressure to avoid punctuers.

For frame painting I did with a professional car painter. He mixed up some color to make the military green which I asked for. It's a mat finish and came up very well. For frame painting I paid him 1200/- including paint.

How to clean rusty rim and spokes
Hi I have sprayed WD-40 and with a steel wool (available in hardware shop)I have rubbed the rusty surface. It gave a good result. Based on rust you may need to go for 2 rounds also. Recommend you to try this. Hope this helps!
